When we rejected BSV, we rejected a cult of personality where one man dictates every rule. Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:18 PM PDT It's quite alarming to see a few people here arguing for a strong dictatorship, trying to make up various non-excuses for one. Perhaps these people have always been fine with a cult of personality if the head knows how to code, and doesn't forge diplomas. I really hope that's not the case. See another cult, reject another cult. [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:53 PM PDT But seriously, the Lightning Network is dog shit. It's best characterized as a form of "semi-custodial banking." It's a necessarily-imperfect substitute for the actual Bitcoin network, and one with an inherent tendency towards massive centralization. Moreover, it becomes an even more imperfect substitute--and its incentives towards massive centralization become progressively stronger--as on-chain fees rise. The idea that it represents any kind of meaningful "scaling solution" for Bitcoin is a complete farce. Expanded explanation here. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Jul 2020 02:37 AM PDT Anything big enough to potentially lead to heated discussions, strong disagreements etc, needs to start being discussed, worked on, and tested to satisfaction, many versions in advance; always rushing contentious beta-like code straight into the production network under the threat of a split is not a good policy. In light of the DAA discussion - let's talk about the major thing BCH has *going* for it. Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:13 AM PDT There's been a lot of negativity about the path of BCH in light of the DAA algorithm proposals. I just want to put that in perspective. BCH is unique in the levels of contention seen in development - but really, that stems from the fact that BCH is also unique in the number of major full nodes that comprise the network. (Right now, I'd call this about 2.5) BCH is not limited to a single node implementation. This means that ideas for development must be popular enough to not just enter the ecosystem through one development team, but enter in a way that convinces the majority of the development teams. In BCH, There is no single point of entry from the development side If you look at BTC, there is literally one major reference implementation and all other implementations must bow to the whim of that developer team or become a fork. The top end of decentralization for that project is literally the number of devs with commit access. The same is even more true of BSV. There is now literally a single implementation. Of course there's no contention there - they could literally program that fork off a cliff with no contention. While I'm not saying healthy development can't happen in these environments, the ability for unhealthy development to occur with a single repository controlling the entire project is much higher. The same is true with all other bitcoin forks that I am aware of. Ethereum is much better in the way they publicize development and community input, but at the end of the day - there is still one major implementation which could possibly, eventually become a point of failure. Really - going down the list of cryptocurrencies... most of them have potential issues (and to varying degrees) about the amount of centralization inherent to the development of the reference implementations. This is the one place where BCH shines Sure, there is contention over the DAA. Maybe it will cause a fork, and maybe it won't... One thing is true though - BCH has always fostered a healthy development environment. I've seen quite a few smaller projects pop up, and when a major project has dropped out, there has almost always been another to take up the slack. Right now, almost all of the teams are doing a great job to encourage and facilitate a democratic, decentralized development environment. Having multiple top-tier node implementations also prevents a single dev team from taking rogue actions that may adversely affect the chain. It would be unfortunate to see happen, but if a split does happen - I'm going to continue to follow the chain that follows the healthiest development approach. There's certainly still a lot of promise moving forward. On top of that, there is currently tons of blockspace for the next major bullrun. No imminent programming overhaul needed. TL;DR - While there's more contention in BCH, it's due primarily to a healthy and decentralized dev environment [link] [comments]
Cleaning up the exchanges from the coins Posted: 27 Jul 2020 02:39 AM PDT Exchanges are having plenty of loose bch which tend to be held by the weak hands. My initiative is to buy at least some extra coins now while they are available, store them at my Trezor and spend when I can get the best possible deal between bch and the item(s) I want. Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:39 AM PDT Greetings /r/BTC I have an old Android phone with Unit Wallet (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.unitwallet) installed, and I suspect there may be a small amount of BCH in the wallet. My problem is that the wallet won't sync to the network and seems un-maintained. (The website is abandoned for random links, and the app hasn't been updated since 2018.) I can find my 12 word recovery-seed, but where can I input the seed? Does anyone know what current wallets would be compatible with the Unit Wallet seed words? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
