I am hearing signs that Calvin Ayre is getting desperate. Apparently he is trying to sell his Squire mining shares but nobody wants to buy them and apparently they are still mining BSV and NOT moving the coinbases. Maybe my meme was the truth.

Current node implementation, regular quad-core VPS, gigabyte blocks

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:16 AM PST

This is pretty cool. I'm syncing the BCH blockchain using BCHD on a regular ~$30/month quad-core VPS (rented virtual server):

    Processed 169 blocks in 10.08s (56405 transactions Processed 153 blocks in 10.06s (63754 transactions Processed 181 blocks in 10.04s (56514 transactions

So, a regular current generation VPS for $30/m can process ~50000 transactions per 10 seconds, which is about 5000 transactions per second.

This block from today was 1758 transactions, 625031 bytes in size.

That means that as far as CPU processing goes we can process blocks of the size of 625031/1758*5000*600/1024/1024/1024 ~ 1 GB...

...on current generation commodity hardware... today... no Moore's law required... 5000 transactions per second... gigabyte blocks.

    Blows my mind.

(Of course, I'm not implying we're ready for gigabyte blocks today, but seeing this makes me think that the idea of gigabyte blocks in some near future is not crazy at all)

UPDATE Out of curiosity I've tried Flowee the Hub on the same machine.. It's crazy!

    15:24:00 [1001] ... height=139000 tx=1176784 15:24:30 [1001] ... height=151000 tx=1764047

It has processed (1764047-1176784)=587 263 transactions in 30 seconds, that's nearly 20 000 transactions per second or 4 GB blocks

Note: Flowee the Hub was running without an indexer, while BCHD was running with an indexer (building an index of transactions and addresses), so it's not a direct comparison, just my curiosity. It's totally possible that bchd without an indexer would run as fast.

What are the top 5 most interesting projects built using Bitcoin Cash?

Jonas Nilsson, Swedish political scientist, Youtuber and maker of documentary on South Africa accepts Bitcoin Cash donations.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:34 AM PST

Jonas Nilsson makes great videos and I decided to ask him about accepting BCH (he already had a BTC-address). Today he promised me to display the BCH address in his video descriptions from now on so feel free to show him some appreciation and chip in a few satoshis to his address here: https://explorer.bitcoin.com/bch/address/bitcoincash:pr4z5am5cexpyarryyvj0ndgc8ld6qh8gccsdhjfn6

His most famous work for an international audience is a documentary called Boer Project: South Africa a Reversed Apartheid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEDU0xIILKA

Member - bitcoin cash blockchain browser. Thoughts, opinion?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:33 PM PST

I am sorry if that has been discussed already and somehow I missed it, but did you guys notice Member?

It can be found here and is nice competition (?) for memo.

    https://memberapp.github.io

    Quick paste from github:

"Member is a Bitcoin Cash blockchain browser. It reads and allows users to create actions in the Memo/Member protocol. Notably it displays and creates posts, likes, tips, profiles, reputational ratings and geolocated posts. It is designed to be a 'fat' javascript client app that runs against a relatively dumb server. You can see it online here - https://memberapp.github.io".

I found it very promising and easier to navigate than memo.

    Edit: useful to navigate: https://memberapp.github.io/#topiclist
