How can ETH be a supercomputer with 2.0? Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:53 AM PST Hi all, Long time bitcoin "maximalist" and recently bought some ETH in preparation for creating a node for 2.0. I know one of the founding principles of ETH was to create the foundation of a global decentralized super computer. With a POW chain, it made sense. With the move over to POS, and looking at the node requirements of 32 ETH staked and a laptop being able to support about 10 nodes in the late game, it makes me wonder: What will give the ETH network the raw power it needs to become a super computer? I dont have a technical background, can someone ELI5 this? Much appreciated [link] [comments] | ||

To <s>be</s> comply or not comply, that is the question. Posted: 09 Dec 2019 01:54 PM PST Blockchain has value only because it is permissionless. Without it, it's just a snail-slow database. The states, from other hand, are all about permissions. A law, by definition, is a ban plus sanction. This makes blockchain a natural threat for states. Crypto helps people to avoid all kind of bans, sanctions, and even taxes. This, therefore, makes state a natural enemy of crypto. Fortunately, states, being very slow, did not realise it. They attacked only fringes of the cryptosystem (Silk Road, Btc-E), while the core of the system, the developers, enjoyed complete safety. Arrest of Griffith shows that this grace period is coming to it's end. States have discovered that cryptocurrency developers are "conspiring in enabling and falicitating" a laundry list of crimes. That's a pity. The Holy Grail (a scalable, stable and anonymous cryptocurrency) has not yet found, but the quest is becoming scary already. We had ten safe years, we need at least three more, but we may not get them. This pose a question for every developer: Comply or not comply? Which path to follow? This is a tough decision to make. -Comply, like Rune, and you'll turn blockchain into a useless database. -Don't comply, like Virgil, and you'll end up in prison. P.S. Uniswap have made their choice. The Virgil's story has probably get them scared and they promptly banned NK and a bunch of other countries, just in case. It's understandable, but IMO, won't help them much. Because Machiavelli warned us: you must never fail to respond to trouble just to avoid war, because in the end you won't avoid it, you'll just be putting it off to your enemy's advantage. Posted: 09 Dec 2019 06:01 PM PST I posted here a while back about Ownpaste a decentralized pastebin app, and thought i'd do a quick status update for those interested. Ownpaste has now split out its backend into the WebIndexP2P project, Ownpaste is a decentralized UI or dapp only, sitting on top of the WebIndexP2P platform. The Ownpaste UI has quite a lot of useful features and tools, one if them just added is the "ENS List" tool which fans of Ethereum and ENS might be interested in. Basically its just a list of ENS sites, but is maintained by users and stored in the WebIndexP2P backend. Which of course is then replicated across all nodes in the WebIndexP2P network. A big thanks to http://almonit.eth.link for putting together the list. And check them out for news on their new decentralized search engine. If you want to check out the "ENS List" app, go to https://ownpaste.com/#!/enslist If you want to help maintain the list, start posting sites and i'll manually add your account as a maintainer so they appear in the list. Posted: 08 Dec 2019 09:18 PM PST How much is the transaction cost in USD terms per transaction? I want to move some funds out of ledger into exchange, and I just want to make sure I have enough ETH to cover the gas transaction. Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
