GPU Mining Hacked on Hive OS |
| Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:26 AM PST Hello! The following post is for seeking advice on any security measures and to spread awareness for people with low security on their mining rigs. I was trying HiveOS on one of my two rigs for about 2 weeks now, mining ETH on Phoenixminer. The first rig remained on SMOS as i tested the new OS on the smaller rig. Everything was going smoothly as i was navigating through the software until last night, the rig on HiveOS went offline. Stats were green, no hardware failure, everything was ok, until i realized that it was mining to a different wallet on a different pool! Apparently at midnight an IP from Belarus logged in ( 37.214.75.119 ) and changed wallet and pool addresses to his own. Checking his address on the blockchain ( 0xA038435c2c36fF4437719dD79FbdB5Aae4f0976f) showed 3+ Gh/s and more than 20 rigs with sporadic naming, suggesting that most of the others have also been hacked. The alleged hacker was mining on ethermine and nanopool, making his work inconspicuous unless one was constantly monitoring his rigs (as he should). I applied 2-FA on my HiveOS but it made me think what other measures can i take to avoid being compromised again. A few hours of mining here and there would make him a fortune over our backs.
