Posted: 09 Sep 2019 01:08 AM PDT The link may not be obvious, but I just realized there is a link. A UTXO consists of a miner committing a hash of the UTXO set into their block. However, it's possible to use a Merkle tree structure for the commitment. Assuming this UTXO merkle root is included in the block header, you could now prove that any output is still unspent at the current block height. Basically, whenever you receive an unconfirmed TX, you'd request 2 proofs: a) Proof the TX builds upon a TX that was in a previous block (current SPV) b) Proof that the consumed input is still unspent in the current block height (added functionality) With this added functionality, a SPV wallet would be as good at receiving 0conf payments as a full node! Major problem with the lightning network, I just learned Posted: 08 Sep 2019 08:21 PM PDT So basically when two people transact on the lightning network, they create new commitment transactions for each transaction between them, these commitment transactions can be broadcast by either party back to the original blockchain at anytime in order to release funds from the lightning network back to the main blockchain. So why can't one party just broadcast an older commitment transaction? Well it turns out they can. The way the lightning network tries to solve this, is that any commitment transaction broadcast has a three day wait period before funds are released back to the main net, which allows the party that had money stolen from them time to prove that they had a newer commitment transaction, in which case they would receive all of the funds in the channel. Basically you can not retrieve your money from the lightning network for three days, which is a horrible user experience. I suppose this is also the reason both parties need to be online at the same time to make transactions. https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@smcaterpillar/bitcoin-2-0-the-lightning-network-explained https://lightning.network/lightning-network-paper.pdf Edit: I believe a channel can close for both parties, if they both agree and broadcast the latest commitment transaction, however this still allows the possibility of one party blocking another party from spending their money for three days, or 1000 confirmations. Furthermore, if one party isn't watching, or is not online, then after 1000 confirmations one party can steal money from the other party. [link] [comments] | ||
Building on bitcoin cash is so easy and fun: wireless cellphone charger Posted: 08 Sep 2019 01:10 PM PDT Please enable caption: I created a proof of concept of wireless charger in 180 minutes, powered by Bitcoin Cash. It's very simple. Pay to Bitcoin Cash Register, then the wireless charger will turn on the power depend on how much you pay. This business model is very difficult to fulfill by fiat money or credit card because of micro amount of payments. And this device is very low-cost and easy-to-maintain. I think it's sutible for youth hostels or mountain huts. Bitcoin Cash is the most user and developer-friendly cryptocurrency. It's very simple and straightforward. There are full of development resource at developer.bitcoin.com , too. If you have new idea, it's very easy and fun to build it on bitcoin cash now, no need to wait for 18 months.
