Bitcoin Network Now 8x More Powerful Than At $20k Peak

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 09:43 AM PDT

New hashrate numbers have shown that the Bitcoin network is now 8 times more powerful than it was at its $20k price peak in late 2017.

Data from Bitcoin network monitor Blockchain.com confirmed that the Bitcoin network's total hash rate reached a peak of 79 trillion terahashes per second (TH/s) earlier this week, passing the previous all time high of 70 trillion TH/s. Hash rate is generally accepted as a measure of how much computer power is spent on a network's security, meaning that the higher the TH/s rate, the more powerful the network is.

The Bitcoin network has seen consistent growth in power in recent months, breaking the all-time high multiple times. In the last month alone, the hash rate has broken records three times, on June 21 (65 trillion TH/s), July 1 (70 trillion TH/s), and most recently on July 20 (79 trillion TH/s).

Despite Bitcoin price currently being roughly halfway to its all-time high, it has still managed to grow its network in size and power, indicating that the current market trends are more substantial than in 2017. Many crypto pundits are suggesting that Bitcoin is currently stabilizing around the $10k-$11k mark before a bull run, and that the next big bull run will take Bitcoin price to a new all-time high, breaking the $20k barrier and reaching an expected $40k peak.

Unpopular Opinion: We should ban urls like forbes.com/sites which let's any one at all post an article masquerading as a "forbes" article? If we stop giving a voice to these lies on r/bitcoin it would decrease the likelihood of them hitting google news too.

Where can I buy Bitcoin already on the Lightning network?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2019 01:16 AM PDT

I just want to buy around 500 bucks of bitcoin already on the Lightning network as I think this will be about all I ever need to transact with in the future as the value 100xs.

Is it possible to buy it like that and just keep it on Lightning with some big channel/liquidity or whatever you call it provider?

How to eliminate national debt with Bitcoin.

    Posted: 10 Sep 2019 12:15 AM PDT

The best way to solve debt in the United States would be to secretly buy vast amounts of bitcoin— this would force the price to skyrocket and ELIMINATE NATIONAL DEBT.

We should implement the Bitcoin Standard.

The rest of the world would have to race and adopt the same standard before the people of their countries do. Not doing so would result in a power collapse from the top down.

It's a radical step but our country needs to do this.

I want to invest in bitcoin

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 11:03 PM PDT

For the past year i saved up money that i made. I dont really want to spent them on stupid things. So I was thinking that I would invest that money in bitcoin. Is that a good idea? Btw. I'm 17 and still in school, so I don't have that much experience. But I read quiet a lot about Bitcoin rn.

Edit: also if i invest in bitcoin should i wait for the price to go down or go for it now?

Yandex alledegly locked me out of my own account and stole my bitcoins. A warning.

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 06:43 PM PDT

A few months ago I created a fresh yandex account and used the email address to register at a bitcoin trading platform. I subsequently bought some btc and kept them in the web wallet provided by the market. So far so good.

When I tried to login to my yandex account later I saw the message that they had seen some obscure "suspicious activity" regarding this account and therefore I could no longer access my yandex account. Effectively I was now locked out and also could no longer login to the bitcoin web wallet due to the "login guard" option, which requires me to verify each new login via email verification.

I was startled since I only used the yandex account for this very purpose, nothing else going on there. Neither did I login via tor or any kind of proxy which might trigger such a response. The bitcoin trade was legit too. At that time I couldn't figure it out and concluded I must have made a mistake somewhere and no longer thought about it.

Now I was stupid enough to do the same thing a few month later. The exact same thing happened. My bitcoins again gone.

My system is 100% not compromised since I'm setting up fresh Linux distros constantly and always verify my images via PGP.

Conclusion: someone inside Yandex is selectively stealing bitcoin.

My advice: Stay away from Yandex if you're interested in keeping your bitcoins.

I'm now using another email service and the problem didn't reappear.

Its sad since I kinda liked them.
