    XRPLNS-XRP Ledger Name Service

    Posted: 25 Jun 2019 11:01 PM PDT

    Hi,

I've written a web service (XRPLNS-XRP Ledger Name Service), available at https://xrplns.com which resolves various social network usernames to XRPL account addresses. You can think of it like a "DNS" but instead of resolving domain names to IP addresses, XRPLNS provides resolving services for the following account types:

    • Emails
    • Websites
    • Reddit
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • StackExchange (StackOverflow)
    • Instagram
    • Github
    • LinkedIn
    • Twitch
    • Slack
    • Discord
    • Disqus
    • YouTube
    • DeviantArt

    Additionally:

    • users can save multiple XRPL Accounts and link them to various social handles
    • set social handles to public/private (not resolvable)
    • label XRPL Accounts (my savings address, family address, etc)
    • XRPLNS provides an embeddable HTML widget containing a QR Code with your preferred XRPL Account ready to attach it to your website

The use of XRPLNS provides discoverability and reduces the error margin while typing manually XRPL addresses.

In order to link a social handle to an XRPL account, users must verify that they own the social account in question. The process is a simple oAuth login (login with Facebook, Twitter, etc).

    A simple example:

Alice likes Bob's Instagram posts and wants to send him some XRP. By querying XRPLNS with Bob's Instagram username, Alice can find Bob's XRPL Account Address and finally send him XRP.

Ideally, Alice won't have to deal with Bob's XRPL Account Address at all, since XRPLNS provides means for third party services to access Bob's information programmatically.

In the end, Alice won't have to care or even know about the whole process except from the part that see wants to send XRP to Bob having @someusername at Instagram.

If XRPLNS is useful and reach many users, third party services such as wallet providers – tip bots, etc may start integrating to their services. IMHO this will benefit the community and the XRP ecosystem.

Finally, I would like to thank Wietse Wind (/u/pepperew) for his time, feedback and ideas.

Is there a precise and complete *technical* description of the XRP protocol?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2019 09:13 AM PDT

Is there a precise and complete description of the XRP protocol?

I mean a description that says precisely how the various kinds of nodes act and interact -- like the description of the bitcoin protocol that Satoshi provided in the whitepaper.

That is, with enough detail to enable independent analysis of how the XRP network works, and assessment of it attributes such as liveness, security, decentralization, irreversibility, etc., including especially how it will react to possible attacks.

For bitcoin, one can do all that analysis using only the information provided in the whitepaper. Is there a paper that would let one do the same for XRP?

Note that low-level details like bit layouts of message records are not necessary for that purpose, and that it is not practically possible to get that information out of the source code. Also, any "marketing" claims about those attributes are useless too: the goal is precisely to verify those claims.

I have asked for such a thing on twitter, but all I got were blogposts that too informal, or describe only how to set up a nodes and use the system, or just repeat the claims without explaining why they are supposed to be true.
