PSA: Troll/Shill narrative trends report 18-06-2019

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:41 PM PDT

Current popular paid shill & troll trends, listed from the most frequent to least frequent:

    1. Trying to overwhelm the sub with shill opinions pushing attackers' agendas, especially using old and bought accounts, adding reddit silver & gold, so it appears to be a legitimate community opinion

    2. Making browsing the sub hard to bear for us, early adopters (Part A: CREATE PROBLEM)

    3. The usual "bcash bcash, roger, bcash" stupid talk.

    4. Trying to talk us into implementing censorship so the troll problem is finally solved and the sub supposedly becomes usable (Part B: OFFER SOLUTION).

    5. Claiming this sub has censorship. This includes claiming that downvoting is censorship and that 10-minute post limit is censorship.

Funding BCH development with SLP token

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 11:51 PM PDT

So, recently I started to play around with some SLP tokens. Now that memo.cash implemented the exchange there are tons of offers to sell some random, worthless tokens and I started to think what makes a token worth buying in general. Then some crazy idea came to my head, although I'm not sure if it hasn't been proposed before: Why not do BCH development fundraising via SLP tokens?

That's actually a prefect use case for SLP tokens as far as I'm concerned. I think that could encourage lots of people to donate, knowing that they get something in return. And such token could be very valuable by itself. Having it would be a proof of supporting the cause, BCH enthusiasts running their own businesses could give some discounts or bonuses to people with such tokens, addresses having them could be highlighted on block explorers or other BCH-blockchian-based apps (like memo), dev teams could potentially implement some futures on top of BCH that would reward fundraising-token holders etc. Maybe I'm going a bit too crazy with this last one, but the point is... Such token would have a lot of potential, which would make it a very interesting buy. Personally, I'm sure I'd invest way more in the cause if I could get a token like that for it. Even if in the end it turns out it only has historical, commemorative value.

We already have the regular fundraising at https://www.bitcoin.com/fundraise/, so making an SLP token would be a nice "upgrade". In order for it to be fair to the people who already donated a lot of BCH to the cause, some of those tokens could be initially distributed to them relatively to the size of their donation.

If you like the idea, please help me spread it! I would love to see that happening!

TL;DR: Why not do BCH development fundraising with SLP token? I'd buy the heck out of official fundraising token!

I'm a business owner. Advertising works.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:28 AM PDT

Has anyone who has clout or tons of money invested into BCH ever thought about running localized ads? Maybe even starting donation pools for advertising? I would be game to get involved in something like this, and can help by providing free (free meaning I already pay for it, so free to community) ad development. Anyway, may be counter cultural to alot of guys but I can vouch for its effectiveness.

BCH sent to P2WPKH-P2SH Address, recovery shows mixed results...

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:06 PM PDT

I have a case here where a client of mine used a BitCoin ATM, and inadvertently used the 'BitCoin CASH' option instead of 'BitCoin', when he was using himself a Mycelium HD Wallet on a SegWit Address. Mistakes were made, but we have held onto the hope that at somepoint recovery would be possible.

With the May 15 Fork and the addition of SegWit recovery to the BitcoinABC codebase, recovery became possible, and the BCH chain survived an attempt at a double-spend attack by some thrifty miner(s) who realized that they could swoop in and take some of these trapped coins.

Since then, a couple guides have arisen that give an explanation of how to do a recovery, if those BCH sent to a 3xxxx Segwit address have the correct 'things', primarily a corresponding private key.

Here is my question/problem --- my BCH wallet is an HD Wallet created in Mycellium, and this was the 2nd 'account' in the wallet, and the 'second' key in that account. The BCH Derivation code is m/49'/0'/1'/0/1 . Problem is, I can only find a private key corresponding to the p2wskh-ps2h: key, and the p2sh: key in not importable in to Electron Cash wallet. How can I find a private key that corresponds to that wallet location in Electron Cash?

    Here are some details:

    3CSUDH5yW1KHJmMDHfCCWShWgJkbVnfvnJ

address the BCH was sent to... now, this address had BCH AND BTC sent to it at some point, and the BTC was spent, revealing the public key hash.

18dWL1ANKPwrhnbvNhrTDy8sxUzDGZ7YH2 is the 'legacy address' that Electron Cash spits out when I put the p2wskh-ps2h:"private key'

bitcoincash:pp67j94cfvnfg727etymlst9jts3uhfdkurqvtj2un is the public key address that Electron Cash shows the transaction occured on. If you put that key into the Electron Cash as a 'watch only' wallet, it still shows a 0.58 BCH Balance.

Problem is, I can't find out how to retrieve the private key for this address... the private key for 3CSUDH5yW1KHJmMDHfCCWShWgJkbVnfvnJ just gives the 18dWL1ANKPwrhnbvNhrTDy8sxUzDGZ7YH2 address in Electron Cash instead of bitcoincash:pp67j94cfvnfg727etymlst9jts3uhfdkurqvtj2un ....

Anyone think that have a hint where to check next? I have tried the BIP39 recovery site and can generate xprv/yprv keys, but none of these seem to be giving me the private key needed for the Derivation set of the HD wallet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIL Tether transactions comprise ~17% of all bitcoin core daily transactions

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 09:11 AM PDT

    From https://omniexplorer.info/:
    TOTAL TRANSACTIONS (24 hrs) 51569
I don't see a way to filter by USDT, but it's safe to say it's ~100% of all Omni transactions.
    From https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/:
    Transactions last 24h 301,365
    (both numbers are dynamic)

That makes USDT tx a whopping 17% of all daily transactions.
There's also Veriblock which claims to use 2.19% of transactions in the last 24h. That's quite a lot of direct users (ie. using btc as a currency) pushed out.

The BTC Store of Value narrative is a circular argument. It is valuable because people believe it is valuable, people believe it is valuable because it is valuable. A ponzi scheme derives its value only from believe and people only buy in order to sell higher to greater fools.

New to Crypto, is Bitcoin the way to go?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:57 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I am interested in crypto but never really had enough confidence or money to invest. I am a student, I only earn $200/week so my investment will be $100-200 AUD. I have opened a Coinbase account but have yet to put any funds into it. I do not have a mining setup, and I looked into coinhash, but it doesn't really suit me. For some reason Crypto excites me!

I have been reading tutorials on the best way to invest my money, and know that I should be taking it slowly.

My questions are 1 - Have I missed the bitcoin train? 2 - I can not afford 1 bitcoin, but should I wait and save up until I can? Or buy a portion of a bitcoin? 3 - Do I need a bitcoin wallet?

I would appreciate any help you all have to offer!
