As of the most recent trade ($9405) Bitcoin has only sold for a price greater than this for 108 days

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:06 PM PDT

This means if you bought and didn't sell in any other time in Bitcoin's history than those 108 days that you'd be in profit.

Stupid question.. What's stopping sanctioned countries from switching to BTC for trading crude oil?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:48 PM PDT

As per my understanding, USD derives its power from being the reserve currency.. specifically since oil is traded exclusively in USD. Why doesn't China pay Iran in BTC and buy all of their oil? I know this means less power in US's hands in curbing bad international actors but on the flip side, it might also be a curb against US over-enthusiasm for war. Am I missing something big?

    What's Layer 3 Spectrum all about ?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 09:57 PM PDT

I just read this on twitter:

Bitcoin already has 3 L2 solutions: LN, Liquid, Statechains, and 1 L3: Spectrum. Meanwhile alts are busy trying to "fix" L1, which Bitcoin has had working for 10+ years already.

    YPub to ZPub Question

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 03:06 AM PDT

If some has a YPub alone, can they determine what the ZPub would be if it were to be created from the same seed?

In other words, if a seed is used to create a YPub for a wrapped segwit wallet, could someone else with that YPub alone determine what their ZPub would be if they were to create a native segwit (bc1) wallet from that same seed?

No that's not the 2017-2019 chart, it's the 2013-2015 chart. We all know what happens next.

Lightning node set up - COMPLETE!

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:55 PM PDT

After 6 weeks from first having the idea to set up a lightning node (Raspiblitz), I'm so happy to report that it's all up and running.

I encountered about 10 'sticking points' where I had to find a solution - whether it was hardware deficiencies relating to the initial block download setting up the Bitcoin node on PC or working out how to run Linux commands in Windows.

Who knew that my first experiences on computers in the late 80s running DOS to play games would help me with a basic understanding of and confidence working with command lines/terminals!

Just one question if anyone knows: I bought an HDMI LCD screen which is not the waveshare one on the Raspiblitz 'shopping list'. Can I just install the drivers (Uctronics) and get it working or does it really need to be waveshare/non-HDMI?

Actually, I'm happy to keep running my node through SSH and maybe buying the screen when Raspiblitz 1.3 is released, but if I can save 50 bucks and keep this HDMI I bought, that would be nice.

Edit: Thanks @rootzoll and the rest of the contributors at the Raspiblitz github!

Edit 2: just for clarity, most of the 6 weeks was just waiting for parts delivery and download time on slightly older equipment. Overall time investment was probably 6-8 hours in half hour blocks here and there whenever I was free

Despite the cost and complexity, people use bitcoin on the ground today in developing countries and to make unstoppable transactions online. The more people use it, the less volatile it will become, encouraging further adoption.

This is actually comforting. Pay attention to the periods of time.

Is it possible to execute a pay-to-many transaction using a QR code?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 01:16 AM PDT

I know Electrum lets you do it using CSV and the amount... just wondering if it's possible to convey that information in a QR code, and have a wallet (i.e. Mycelium) understand it.
