Dear mods and community, can we please have a talk about the news sources in this subreddit?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2019 01:52 PM PDT

This is an issue that had to be addressed a long time ago but it seems that no one cares. I have gone through the list of the most popular news sources that are present in /r/cryptocurrency and the accounts that are used to make posts from these sources. I can say with confidence that NONE of these accounts is actually contributing to the community or following the guidelines for self-promotion on Reddit.

    btcnn.com

Accounts used to post from this source:

    /u/iamjide91

    /u/btccn

The first one is not as bad as it looks but posts from the past few months are only linking to btccn completely ignoring the guideline for self-promotion.

You should submit from a variety of sources (a general rule of thumb is that 10% or less of your posting and conversation should link to your own content), talk to people in the comments (and not just on your own links), and generally be a good member of the community.

The second account even boldly says in the description

This is an unmanaged account. For contact, advertising, and PR information send us an email

In other words, they use a posting bot and don't care.

Here is what Reddit has to say about these

If your contribution to reddit consists mostly of submitting links to a site(s) that you own or otherwise benefit from in some way, and additionally if you do not participate in discussion, or reply to peoples questions, regardless of how many upvotes your submissions get, you are a spammer. If over 10% of your submissions and conversation are your own site/content/affiliate links, you're almost certainly a spammer.

    source

    thetokenist.io

Accounts used to post from this source:

    /u/Some_won

Obviously failing to follow the same guidelines as the accounts above

    blockonedaily.com

Accounts used to post from this source:

    /u/skyrbs

Same as the rest of them

    globalcryptopress.com

Accounts used to post from this source:

    /u/Digitallifeworks

Every single post comes from the same source and every comment made by this account is either mocking people who call them out for inaccurate titles or just blatantly insulting other users due to the lack of arguments. A nice example of this can be found here and in the comment section of the Reddit user.

As I already said, all of these accounts and news sources have one thing in common - They bring zero value to our community. The titles usually have nothing to do with the content, the content it self is biased most of the time and people writing these articles have a need to express their personal views and opinions. This is not journalism nor is it news reporting. This is clickbait combined with blogging. If there is a journalist present in this sub I would like them to correct me if I am wrong.

Think about it for a second. Reddit is a community driven website and it relies on the community to follow the guidelines and obey the rules. It also relies on the community to point out the ones that aren't playing by the rules because it is impossible to oversee every account individually. In this case, they are also making a profit by posting inaccurate headlines.

Last but not least, none of these websites and blogs have a real journalist writing the content. As stated in the post above by one of the contributors to GCP, the articles are written by coders, engineers and bloggers. In the best case scenario, this labels them as blogs and not news websites or media outlets. Our community members should be aware of that and these spammers should have warning flairs, just like tabloids have on /r/worldnews.

The source of information is very important for people who come here for the news. I personally chose other alternatives in hopes that things will change for the better but I see that I was too optimistic.

    Edit: formating

Let us celebrate 15th April as delisting day

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 01:06 AM PDT

On April 15th Binance made a really big decision of delisting Bitcoin SV. This is really good. Now even Shapeshift is delisting BSV and I bet many other exchanges will be following suit.

I propose why don't we make April 15th the Delisting day. Every year on this day exchanges should delist bad projects, which haven't shown any improvement in the past year. Every project should be evaluated before this day and if they don't meet the mark they should be delisted. It will keep the community clean, also projects that don't deliver cannot be on an exchange for more than a year.

    What do you think?

Thousands of cans of fake infant formula are still out there in China

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 03:58 AM PDT

This market remains almost completely irrational, and it won't change any time soon.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2019 11:23 AM PDT

There a few extremely obvious indicators that point towards this:

    1. Almost no project has officially 'died', despite development stalling or outright ending (for those projects). In the same vein, very little delisting has happened either.

    2. News outlets have fully completed their transformation into entertainment entities, reporting only on drama, publishing press releases or price updates. None of it is useful.

    3. Tribalism still dominates hard, which wouldn't be worrying if it was coupled with interesting discussions related to tech, industry or economics. None of the above are usually, if ever, present.

    4. The market still moves more or less as one big 'block' and does not react to meaningful news. Only vague announcements interpreted in overly bullish or bearish ways ever affect it, making it somehow even easier to manipulate.

    5. More recently, BSV has suffered what everyone with at least a quarter of a brain understands to be a very public death. How does the market react to this glorified $1B+ mcap dumpster fire of a coin? -12.1%.

For everyone with blindfold on still throwing darts and buying whatever coin it lands on: good news! Only in a market this irrational could yet another massive bull run be possible.

For everyone else who understands how fucking insane this is, this little thread will be our corner to cry in and discuss.

Warning To All Devery $EVE Holders.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2019 10:36 PM PDT

The r/deveryofficial subreddit is being heavily censored by it's mods. Earlier today I posted this, which was removed.

Regarding Devery's Commitment to the Project.

Over the past few months, community sentiment on this project has reached new lows. As an investor of Devery it worries me, and shows a lack of communication and transparency from the core team. In order to retain the legitimacy of this project, a statement should be made preferably by the CEO addressing these issues and action has to take place to prevent this fear among the investors. We have the right to know that the team is still committed to the project.

Regarding the team, it would be greatly appreciated if you updated the whitepaper to include them. As it is listed in the contents of the whitepaper but not actually there.

On behalf of the Devery community I look forward to a response.
