KYC is the equivalent of trying to catch pedophiles by legally requiring a body cam on every single citizen 24/7, "just in case".

    Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:54 PM PDT

The fact that people are not outraged by it tells me everything I need to know about the general attitude, fear, and intelligence (or lack thereof) of the population.

We need to catch criminals, but not at the cost of EVERY person's freedom.

Bitcoin lets us transact without permission. Don't surrender this right so easily, even if you are doing nothing wrong. Find out how you can help overturn these nonsensical laws. If you really care about Bitcoin, and the success of Bitcoin, and not just here for "FOMO and HODL gains", and actually see the real value of Bitcoin, then it's worth it to try.

    • Who does the FinCEN report to?
    • When were anti-money laundering (AML) laws introduced and why?
    • Is it constitutional to have transactions tracked by personal identification?
    • How can you help bring awareness around KYC and bring an end to financial surveillance?
    • How much crime/terrorism does it actually stop?
    • What are notable cases of money laundering done by large corporations that received just a slap on the wrist?
    • What are notable cases of money laundering done by peaceful individuals that received huge penalties (fines, and prison sentences).

Let's change this, and let our love of Bitcoin be the catalyst for change.

[Popper] In the wake of TD Ameritrade quietly opening Bitcoin trading for some of its customers, I was just told that eTrade is preparing to begin offering Bitcoin trading to its 5 million or so customers and is just finalizing a third party to actually hold the coins.

Why we are here to stay

I don't want to make this long. Just poignant.

It is a privilege, gentlemen, to play even a small part in confirming your transactions as a miner.

The price doesn't matter to me. I won't turn the lights off even if I have 0.00 returns on mining. I like that I am contributing to something greater, harnessing our current technology to make a world-wide distributed network, in a way that has never been done before.

I know there's more like me out there. That's why I know we're not going anywhere.

My bitcoin was stolen - how do I file a casualty loss under Schedule A on a 1040 tax form?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:18 PM PDT

Hey, guys. I know, I know. Save the heartache. My bitcoin was stolen and probably for good. It was around $8200. I've reported the incident to the local police, FBI, and FTC. But, after doing some research I found that you can claim it as a casualty loss under Schedule A on a 1040 tax form. I've never claimed stolen bitcoin as a theft/casualty loss on my taxes. I never thought I would have to. Does ANYONE have ANY experience with something like this?

Please, help. I'm sure that your advice will help someone else in this unfortunate circumstance.
