XRP Cryptocurrency for more than just banking and FOREX transactions?

So, is Ripple pushing for the XRP cryptocurrency to be used outside banking, as well as banking foreign exchange? Is there any evidence that they may be building platforms to facilitate regular day-to-day payments made between vanilla individuals?

New to XRPmate

I haven't accessed my XRP balance in many months. I'm using a Ledger NanoS. As the old Ripple wallet Chrome extension is now deprecated, I'm trying to use XRPmate. I have created a new account, but I'm unable to access my balance, and I see no way to do so. I also see no link to any kind of Help on the website, nor any link for using my Ledger to access my balance. Can anyone please help out here?
