I've seen several comments by other people, commenting that they can't find cheap gpus. I have the same experience. It wasn't that way when the RTX cards were launching. I remember seeing boatloads of cheap $350ish GTX 1080 ti. But they're all gone. I went to Best Buy last week. They had one RTX 2070, and 1 RTX 2080. No ti, and I think only a single gtx 1050. Admittedly I can buy my choice of new gpu on the nvidia website, amongst others. But it still felt strange to me.

Mining has gotten worse since a few months ago when RTX launched, and although people were dumping their cards hoping that RTX would be awesome, $350 for a gtx 1080 ti is still around a year roi at free electricity. Admittedly some small farms stay on for the heat, and some people have free electricity, but the massive warehouses full of gpu mining equipment that we have seen in the past must, for the most part, either be idle or sold.

If idle: what has stopped almost everyone, en masse, from selling them at the current relatively high prices for gpus?

    If sold: where are they?

Learning about mining is an inevitable part of getting started in crypto. It’s also one of the most confusing things for newbies to wrap their head around:

Should I replace thermal pads on Zotac 1080ti Amp Extreme?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 09:17 PM PST

I purchased a Zotac Amp Extreme 1080ti that was previously used for mining. The card still works fine and the temps are good, I just noticed that the thermal pads have some grease around them. Is it worth replacing those thermal pads? Will they work well as is?
