    Electron Cash saved my ass

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 09:50 PM PST

Last week I decided to split my coins to sell some BSV. I used Coinomi's splitter tool and it mostly worked, but I got replayed about 10% of my BCH when moving between wallets. I knew I must still have access to the keys cause I had the seed to the BSV wallet, but I couldn't figure out how to export them. I worked on this puzzle for about 10 hours over the week and I finally figured it out using Electron Cash. Thank you u/jonald_fyookball for making this awesome tool available! You are the best!

The Real Motive Behind Lightning Network

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 06:51 PM PST

"Coffee payments don't belong on the Blockchain!" - BTC guys. This is a red herring. No one should care what transactions are for, if someone is paying a fee for it. Bitcoin works the same for large or small payments.

"But Bitcoin with Big Blocks will be more centralized!" Really, who gives a shit if Joe Hipster from Wisconsin can't run a non-mining node from his wristwatch. This is also a deflection.

The real reason is that it provides node operators a way to make money off Bitcoin, without having to mine it, or actually use it. AKA "Rent Seeking". It's the Hodler's ( and Banker's ) Dream: make money without doing anything.

They are already running a node which costs them money, so why not recoup some of that loss by running a Lightning node and collecting some fees.

What they don't realize is that the fees they will individually make will be insignificant, because no one is going to open a channel with their low-funded, poorly-connected node.

Those who will really make money are those with huge amounts capital to stake. They will make money by simply having Bitcoin, and allowing you to transact "through" them. They will say they are charging a fee for providing "liquidity" or some shit. Does this sound familiar?

Bitcoin is a way for electronic cash to be sent from one party to another without going through a financial institution. Yet these guys wan to reintroduce financial institutions to it.

It breaks the economic incentive structure of Bitcoin, and is doomed to fail.

Alice and Bob are never going to care about Voluntaryism, Bitcoin, or Freedom. That's ok. Forget ideological persuasion, and use economic persuasion. The state charges 50% for each transaction. This is a huge opportunity. Create a system which cuts out the state and Alice and Bob will come in droves

No one is discussing next upgrade changes it seems.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 09:05 PM PST

I'll join the crowd now and ask ABC some manifestation on the plan for the next upgrade, if any.

Frankly this silence is making more uncomfortable than any price swing.

BU, step up and tell your plans. Bitprim, Go client guys, what gives? Is there any minimal set of features or not? We had huge contention with CTOR, do we plan to put it in function for the next upgrade?

Is there agreement on minimal features?

    Recovery

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 04:12 PM PST

Considering how quickly this space bubbled and retracted, how long of a recovery period would be needed before another growth phase? Last time took the better part of two slow and boring years. There must be a lot of bag holders just hoping to get their money out at target prices which will hold the recovery down.

It's going to take a lot in my opinion to spin the hype to bring crypto back in the short term. The adoption is low, and now the majority of the world sees it as a dangerous ponzi to stay away from I would guess.

This isn't FUD, just a discussion. I've been through several cycles. I'm not that concerned. It's definitely different this time...

Way to go crypto community. This is definitely how we gain mass adoption.

Since there's no replay protection, would any BCH transactions done since the fork also have been sending BCHSV to those same addresses unwittingly?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 07:59 PM PST

Did a handful of BCH Txs since the fork and realized that since it was such a poorly coordinated fork that it won't be like the last time where I can simply expect to collect the amount of BCHsv I had during the fork later... might have just made a few expensive mistakes this month by paying for services in BCH via Exodus.

Bitcoin Cash in action. The usual fraud flags on Shopify are meaningless when chargebacks are impossible with confirmed transactions (surely one of the easiest sells to vendors)

    Posted: 13 Dec 2018 04:09 PM PST

Running store.bitcoin.com I have to ensure all orders are legit, normal stuff. However it makes me strangely happy everytime I see CVV flags (for not entering one) on an order... when it's paid using Bitcoin Cash.

This is the one of, if not the best selling point to vendors in my opinion. Chargebacks suck. Why not totally remove them from the equation?
