Opinions wanted: Keep 2080 or trade for 1080ti + ?? cash? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 07:48 PM PST Like the title says: I received a 2080 back as an RMA of one of my evga 1080tis. The new card is an EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 XC ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P4-2183-KR Friend wants to trade an MSI Armor 1080ti + some cash. Is it worth trading? How much cash is a reasonable deal for both parties and why? Either card will just go into an AI rig to be rented or mined with. Power requirements are not an issue (efficiency is appreciated as always), card size isn't an issue. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:26 AM PST This is a thread where I think aloud about the potential profitability of Grin mining, I'd like to see some discussion on this. I thought of investing in some GPUs for the launch of Grin. I used to mine Litecoin in 2013 with 4 GPUs so I do have some experience. Seeing how MW/Grin is one of the most interesting developments in blockchain since bitcoin itself, I was excited about the prospect of mining "early". But a few considerations are making me rethink this idea:
Adding these together, I come to the conclusion that Grin will be a good idea for those that are already into mining, but investing GPUs solely for "being early for Grin" seems almost similar to buying into a pre-ICO sale (from an investor's perspective): putting money/bitcoin into something that has an unknown market value, gambling with mere hope of a good market value post-launch. Not a good deal. Seeing how Grin will probably have price discovery mechanisms early (ie. exchanges); I would conclude that, unless one has already a GPU farm, access to cheap electricity, and experience in this field, it's better to stand back let the market find a "fair" price and then begin accumulating slowly. In other words, the idea that this will be more profitable than mining anything else (like ZCash) just because it's a "new" coin is an illusion. (Also because of its flat emission rate that does not privilege early people.) Thoughts? PS: Another option I'm weighing is simply buying 4 cards that I can then distribute among family, friends, and keep one for myself for gaming. So in that case, at least I have something at the end of it if it turns out to be not-so-profitable. [link] [comments]
RTX 2070 series cards worth the current prices? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:45 AM PST I've been hearing from gamers that RTX are not worth it because even the ray tracing abilities in the 2080Ti are sub-par. Of course this is for games. How are things faring in the crypto world? Is it currently worth $500-$600 to buy an RTX2070? Also, I guess that's a bit of a loaded question given current crypto prices, so when I say "worth it", I don't so much mean make my money back right away. I'm looking at it more from a relative performance angle at this point. [link] [comments]
Will my insurance company drop me for GPU mining? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 12:04 PM PST So I got a 72 card GPU farm at my family biz. It's a retail store with a ton of warehouse space that I got my rigs running in. We recently got a new insurance policy and an inspector is going to come out to the premises and take a look. I'm a bit nervous that they'll jack our rates or say something stupid to jeopardize our policy. Should I take the rigs somewhere for "maintenance" or is there nothing to worry about? Thoughts? Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:37 AM PST Does anybody know and can help me figure out which programs I need to flash the bios to the manufacture's original bios (which I have downloaded). This is my first time and I don't know how to flash them at all, and most importantly I do not know which programs to use for this GPU thank you so much for helping if you can! [link] [comments]
9xP106-090 rig does not overclock Posted: 27 Nov 2018 11:13 AM PST I have this rig: http://www.manli.com/en/products/Mining_Series/GPU_Mining_System/products/123 It is a dedicated 9xP106-090 mining rig with passively cooled GPUs and super loud case fans. Each card uses 75W. PSU is Bitmain 1300W. I ran it on ethOS and it was hashing about 18.5MH on ETH without any overclocking. I switched to HiveOS and started experimenting with OC settings. On my other rigs with NVidia cards I just added some parameter to Memory Clock field, set -100 to Core Clock and all was good. Optionally set power limits. With this rig it doesn't work. When I set less than 1000 Memory clock it hashes less than default - 16-17MH. When I set more, around 1500 it throws a GPU watchdog error and restarts. I tried increasing Core Clock to 50, then 100. It seemed to be stable at Core +100, Memory +1200 but hashrate hardly increased. When I set Memory to +1300 it ran for a few minutes, then hashrate dropped and it started throwing errors again. When I set OC to defaults it runs stable for days at ~18.5MH per card. Can it ever be overclocked? What should I do? Am I doing something wrong? [link] [comments]
Biostar RX 580: temperature drop through new thermalpaste / cleaning Posted: 27 Nov 2018 10:01 AM PST Hey Folks, in bear markets and red times, I like to take care of things and do maintenance, so I decided to take care of an RX 580 (4GB, Biostar) which has been overheating (compared to the rest). Never opened this one, so it is cleaning & re-pasting packed together in a video. Link: https://youtu.be/Zwt67gTCL4w Cheers [link] [comments] |
