Should I sell my crypto to claim losses, then buy it back again?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2018 09:57 PM PST

I asked this over at r/tax but didn't really get an answer, curious if y'all have any recommendations.. Due to the recent dip, should I sell my crypto to a loss on my taxes, then buy it back again? Are the losses already calculated without having to sell? Of course I'm hodling but will take whatever I can get after the recent gouging that has been November.

There are many ways to manipulate a market, buy none are easier than making sure its biggest player has zero value, ensuring complete market irrationality.

We live in the age of information and disinformation. By now, I think it's clear that Bitcoin does not fit any of its use cases. Its raison d'être, a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, doesn't work because of scalability and fees problems. Its second most-parroted use case, a store of value in the form of 'digital gold', is so nonsensical and requires such mental gymnastics to believe in that I won't even try to refute.

Simply put, Bitcoin is not what it was intended to be, but massive investments are keeping it in permanent dialysis, making the institutions it was meant to disrupt absolutely ecstatic: cryptocurrencies are slowly discredited as they lack adoption and investor confidence, the biggest hurdle to their development, while Bitcoin maximalists and other detractors fight with everyone who wants to point out that the market is more than the dinosaur at its forefront.

Seriously guys, the word 'shitcoin' is probably in the top 5 of most used words on this subreddit, and this is the subreddit for crypto! Without a serious change in the tone of conversations surrounding crypto, we'll never mature. That doesn't mean Bitcoin needs to die, it means we need to start having serious talks about the grand vision of a world with crypto. About rules and regulations, about economic forces and about technology. Isolated tribes clashing together eventually die, but civilizations thrive.

When I first entered vs. Now

    Posted: 27 Nov 2018 10:10 PM PST

When I first entered/got to know the cryptocurrency space, I had so many coins I'd like to buy as I see potential. As time progresses, I started to see the pros and CONS of these coins. Honestly, these "faults" deter me from putting in more money. How would you compare yourself when you first bought your coins vs. now?

Disclaimer: I don't own or lose enough to be very biased because of price rise of drop. No, I did not first invest during the bullrun in December.

So r/Bitcoin banned me for "shilling altcoins". Since when has discussion been prohibited? Especially critical discussion at that? Gives the community a bad rep imo.

@LucasNuzzi: #Bitcoin is like the internet, but we're still in 1988. - To remind myself of that, I built a Raspiblitz Bitcoin full node + Lightning using a @Raspberry_Pi and a 1988 television. We might be early, but the #LightningNetwork solves a real problem and Bitcoin is here to stay.
