Ethereum Projects at HackTheNorth Posted: 16 Sep 2018 07:41 AM PDT HackTheNorth is one of the largest hackathons around with over 1000 students competing. I've been on site mentoring as a Google Developer Expert and Codefresh evangelist. I've talked to lots of teams doing work on the blockchain and every single one is building on ethereum. To share two highlights: This team built a proof-of-vaccination dapp using smart contracts to keep records private unless the user authorizes a 3rd party to access the records. Another team built a dapp for handling charity contributions with several layers of smart contracts. One, contributors can track where their money goes, and how it's spent, and two the community has a voting system they can use to prioritize where their funds go. The excitement from these teams to build on ethereum is amazing and many said the easiest part of their projects has been working with Ethereum. There are several other projects using Ethereum at HackTheNorth, maybe we'll hear more about them soon! 😎 [link] [comments] | ||

Creating a Voting Tool on the Direction of Company Donations Posted: 16 Sep 2018 02:31 PM PDT Hello, I'm working on a project that involves the creation and sale of a ERC20 token for which I think there will be a demand. I wanted to add some good Karma to the project so I am considering to donate a certain percentage of my "revenue" on a weekly basis to a good cause. That could be any organization that supports the environment or humans or animals in need. I was thinking about putting it up for vote which organization should get the donations each week. Users should have the ability to use a voting tool on our web site where they can suggest and vote for already suggested organizations. To prevent voting fraud it should be necessary to pay a small fee in Ether (0.001 or less) to be able to take a vote for / suggest a organization. I would then contact the most upvoted organization and would offer them to transfer the weekly funds in crypto or fiat. Would something like this be possible? Are there any other ideas on how I could realize this? If someone is able to to offer a solution and able to code it in exchange for compensation in crypto please let me know. Thank you.
