Where will the liquidity providers come from?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 05:41 PM PDT

Hi all, first post here but been following along for awhile. I bought in late December and made some bad trades but have taken up day trading and putting my profits back into XRP. Dollar cost averaging! (Please don't ask me to time cost average)

I have a question about the process of banks and xRapid usage. I understand the how the process works, but I haven't seen outlined anywhere about where the liquidity provider exchanges/entities will come from. We can assume that large volumes aren't going to be bought on public exchanges for many reasons, depth being only one of them.

From what I understand the LP's will need to be able to have the depth available for several million dollars at any given time at a price point to avoid slippage - quite possibly more. This sounds like institutional money to me. On top of that, they need to make money on the transaction, otherwise they are the ones subjecting millions of dollars of XRP to market volatility as they are the ones continually holding the bags, if you will.

Does Ripple have any partnerships with LP's? Am I missing something glaringly obvious? Imagine a bank wants to go live with XRP today, and send a $500k transaction tomorrow, how will that work? Even a small fraction of a percentage slippage is going to kill the cost savings in the first place. I know xRapid won't complete the transaction if the suitable match buy/sell isn't there, but what is Ripple doing to make sure that it IS there?

I'm not trying to FUD, this is just one piece of the puzzle I don't have fitted together yet.

    Thanks

Ripple being added to Coinsquare in the next few weeks

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 05:38 PM PDT

I spoke to a finance manger from Coinsquare earlier today and was told they'd be adding ripple in the coming weeks. Pretty stoked on that as I deal with coinsquare more then other exchanges and being in Canada it works great for me.

The Search for Real Value in the Crypto Market

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 05:31 AM PDT

    https://xrpcommunity.blog/the-search-for-real-value-in-the-crypto-market/

The search for real value in blockchain technology is afoot! We've all been there; searching through any evidence for a good investment, trying to separate online hype from reality.

In this blog, I describe some of the recent progress Ripple has made with their banking clients & cover some recently-released videos, including on in which David Schwartz sits down for a joint interview.

On the community front, there are a couple high-profile events to discuss as well, with the main one being the new symbol for XRP!

Hope you enjoy the read & please leave any feedback below.

    Sincerely, -Hodor

The Digital Revolution & The tides of change: Mainstream Adoption is a generational thing

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 01:25 PM PDT

Think back to the days of the first automobiles. There were those that laughed at the idea of a "horseless carriage" and yet the children and the grand children of that generation were the ones who propelled the automobile into the mainstream. They were the ones who inherited the seats of power from their forefathers and adopted the modern convenience of a horseless carriage.

    • Think back to the days of the computer. Allegedly in 1943, Thomas J Watson is quoted to have proclaimed "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers". Another, Sir Charles Darwin (grandson of the naturalist himself) in 1946 also made a statement "It is very possible that ... one machine would suffice to solve all the problems that are demanded of it from the whole country".

    • These men were also a product of their time. They had a limited vision for computers as they focused too closely at the elephant and they missed out on the landscape and the horizon. Fast forward to our current age, smart watches are more powerful than the first computers and each household has several devices with a microchip embedded.

Yesterday, UK Finance (an organisation created to ensure a fare fair representation of retail and SMEs across industries) released an extensive study of 2017s consumer payment methods. It is a detailed study painting a clear image of how the UK is moving away slowly from the use of cash towards the far more convenient contactless digital payments.

Some of the key take aways include:

    1. For the first time debit card payments have finally eclipsed that of cash payments. (13.2 billion versus 13.1 billion respectively).

    2. Almost two thirds (63%) of people in the UK now use contactless payments.

    3. The number of contactless payments increased by 97% in 2017.

    4. 2017 saw a 15% decrease in cash payments.

    5. It is estimated by 2027 approximately 36% of all payments in the UK will come from contactless cards.

    6. Those aged between 25-34 were most likely to make contactless and mobile payments. Those who shunned cash entirely were also most likely to be among this age group.

The last bullet point resonates with myself and my personal experience. I am in my early 30s and for the past several years I have almost entirely made all my payments through debit cards and rarely carry any cash. The world is growing closer and closer through digitisation and the Internet of Things.

    • What the digital world and the next generation need and demand is the Internet of Value because it is that generation that will inherit the digital revolution. Think back to the automobile and the computer, they were shunned or proclaimed to have a limited future but that generation soon retired and the next took over and adopted the new revolution.

Now bring this point home, out of all the Fintech companies out there which one of them saw the need for a digital payment infrastructure that has the potential to offer faster payments not just within borders but also across borders? Which Fintech company saw the potential of super fast digital assets to facilitate the transfer of value across the internet? Which Fintech company saw beyond the walled gardens of our current payment structures and the need for Interoperability in our ever connected world?

FUD and concerns raised by many of the previous generation on crypto currencies stem from limited understanding and vision. However they are simply following a cyclical phenomena that their forefathers exercised before them right before automobiles became mainstream, right before computers, video games, the internet, smart phones, social media and the list goes on and on.

HODL through the rough storms as calmer waters are just beyond the horizon.

PS: Sorry for the long ass post.

Investing in XRP Is Not Only About the Future Price...

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 11:42 AM PDT

Here's something I've been considering lately: hodling whatever amount of XRP you hodl may not be as important as how patient you are, and what your vision for this asset is. It's a combination of how much you hodl, how patient you are, and what your target is (or if you don't have a specific target, how skilled you are at ascertaining that it has been as mass-adopted as it ever will be.

Consider that someone currently hodling a bag of 1,000 XRP may ultimately make more money than someone hodling 10 x that amount, because perhaps the one hodling 10,000 XRP is more emotional and is more afraid of "losing his/her gains" than the turtle that hodls "only" 1,000 XRP, and sells sooner than the smaller bag hodler.

We all hear about the person who spent around 10,000 bitcoins for buying a couple of pizzas way back when, but we need to ask ourselves, with all of the ups and downs of the Bitcoin market (and there have been lots since inception), "What if I were the one hodling 10,000 BTC? Would I still be hodling today, or would I have cashed out long ago?" It boils down to vision, does it not? So, what is your vision? Are you okay with a "moderate" 5 or 10 x gain on your hodlings (I say great if you are, but if you are not, expand your vision, and be willing to hodl longer, or if you are shorter term accumulate a bigger bag). Or, am I just encouraging greed here? Would love to hear the input of the community regarding the combination of amount hodld, patience, vision, target, etc. If this is a successful project, and one can have these elements in place in the right proportion, it can kind of "level the playing field", in a sense, between the smaller bag hodlers and the bigger bag hodlers...

All this time since the beginning of the trial with ripple it has only just recently been found out that Western Union have made only 10 transactions using the new network. $1 billion over XCurrent in Past Year

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 02:09 PM PDT

I was re-watching the Asheesh Birla video by Ripple (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGigM6zbto4) and starting at 50 seconds he talks about XCurrent. He stated XCurrent is their most mature product and in the last YEAR, has done over $1B in transactions. That seems like a very small amount to me. That would equal approx $2.7 million per day/avg. Am I missing something here? Ana Botín of Santander stated that 50% of the bank's annual international transfers are currently being carried by the Ripple-powered blockchain. Which I assume is XCurrent. So if XCurrent only did $1B in a year, what can we expect Xrapid to do in the early days of adoption? Again I ask, what am I missing/overlooking here?

The Burning Question: Is XRP a security?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 12:47 PM PDT

So it seems SBI VC added/will add BTC/JPY and BCH/JPY pairs.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 12:53 PM PDT

What are your guys thoughts? I was under the impression that (at least for a while) XRP will be the exclusive fiat pair - now it seems they added 2 more even before they open trading to the general public in July?

I've been throwing around an idea for a product to sell for quite some time now and I'm wondering if there is a way for consumers to pay through a website with XRP? Anyone know if that's available yet? And if so, how?

What is the actual significance of SBI launch?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 02:25 PM PDT

I'm trying to figure out the hype around this announcement. I recently was informed that XRP is NOT the only coin listed. Also, you can buy bitcoin/ bitcoin cash directly with fiat. So why do we care? Obviously people in Japan that want to buy xrp have all ready done so? Who is waiting to buy until SBI prolongs the wait another month? I'm not trying to shit on this or cause fud I'm just hoping I'm missing something with this ?

Quantity of #XRP 'Airdrop' Spam is Getting Ridiculous

    Posted: 18 Jun 2018 11:10 PM PDT

    https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&q=%23xrp&src=typd&lang=en .

700+ new posts in the last hour or two, most of it spam with the word airdrop.

It's getting worse by the day.

Is there a way to filter all posts with the word 'Airdrop'?

Would be much more efficient than marking hundreds of posts as spam and blocking them.

    https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter/advanced-twitter-mute-options .

Mute is not available for search.
