Just like Netflix and Amazon before that Ripple/XRP gets a ton of FUD because it is a threat to established businesses.

    Posted: 09 May 2018 07:53 AM PDT

Even as little as six months ago I saw an article about how Netflix was going to fail. In fact all throughout it's rise I remember constantly seeing articles spreading doubt. "Can Netflix sustain its business model?" "Netflix new decisions, will this bring them down?" etc etc and on and on it went, year after year while Netflix continued to grow.

Same thing happened with Amazon before that. Rarely did you see articles proclaiming how great it was going to be. The whole time it was growing nothing but doubt being tossed on it and questions if it could last or when the whole thing would come crashing down.

Ripple/XRP suffers an even worse problem. It is attacked on two fronts. On one hand it is a threat to the big central banks/SWIFT. On the other hand it is a threat to Bitcoin and the philosophy behind it. So XRP is under siege from without and within its own community. It's almost like a centrist politician. Those on the left find him too conservative, those on the right find him too liberal.

But it means Ripple/XRP is right on track. No one would care to write up blatant lies and FUD if they didn't see XRP as a threat. Hold tight, XRP's enemies can see the writing on the wall.

Commissioner Hester M. Peirce talking about utility tokens not being a security. ICOs are the closest thing to a security.

    Posted: 09 May 2018 07:17 PM PDT

Here is an extract from her speech:

There are, for example, cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. These function perhaps like money. Some of their creators and certainly some of their early adopters may have intended them to function that way, even though technological and regulatory barriers can make it tough for cryptocurrencies to serve as currency.[9] They may be currency, commodities, or something else, but it is unlikely that, on their own, they're actually securities.

Then there are utility tokens that are designed to function much differently, at least at some point in their lifecycle. These tokens may function as a means of executing a transaction, as a way to get access to a product or service or participate in a community, or in any number of ways that have yet to be dreamed up.

And then there are tokens or coins used in initial coin offerings, or ICOs. These look the most like securities. Their creator sells them as a means of raising funds.

If you want to read the whole speech it is found at this URL: https://www.sec.gov/news/speech/speech-peirce-050218

EDIT: Forgot to mention she is the Commissioner of the SEC

Open-source project for new XRP symbol on github

    Posted: 09 May 2018 11:02 AM PDT

There is a github project to select a new symbol to represent XRP - it was started by a community member who is passionate about it, and there is a lot of conversation going on on Twitter (but I know you aren't all active there) - surfacing this here bc I think broad input from the community on this is very important - this could decide how XRP is represented in the future https://github.com/xrpsymbol/xrpsymbol.github.io

You know what does my head in? ALL OF THE FUD

    Posted: 09 May 2018 04:41 AM PDT

It shouldn't amaze me, but it truly does. How many sites want to report on this "major court case that's going to destroy Ripple". I mean, seriously, doesn't anyone fact check or find out the basics before writing such ridiculous articles?! This court case is has no grounds, and has been put forward by someone who thought it'd be a great idea to sell his XRP at a loss and then said it's Ripple's fault?! I mean, wtf? I love crypto, but bloody hate it at the same time. *and breathe*

    The Ripple/XRP symbol

    Posted: 09 May 2018 01:46 PM PDT

I think this is just a bad move to even consider. The fact that someones mind will change because of a symbol is just not the way to go. Rather invest time in proving than just changing a symbol.

What is your take on this?
