    Future of GPU mining?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 01:53 AM PDT

Hi guys, i know its $1M question and no one can know , but i would like to hear your opinion?

I am mining almost 5 months, i started at probably worst moment, at ATH of GPUs and just before bear market, but anyway am i glad i started all this even if my break even is so far from now. I am strong holder and i keep all my mining rewards for at least 2 years (thats plan) because i invested some fiat that was saving and i dont need that money back soon, also my electricity cost are concidered as additional investment that i pay from fiat in my pocket, and i am very sure that all was better investment decission then not to get into mining.

I have some plans to get 1 or 2 new rigs when new cards are out.

What is your guess where will be GPU mining in 2,3,5 years? I guess we wont see 6-7 months break even never again but as long as its profitable miners who know what they buying (not throwing money on overpriced cards), how have relativly cheap electrics, who knows to resell old GPUs on time and who knows to make some basic trades (sell at pumps and buy back at dumps) that they will survive in long term.

    What is your prediction?

    Future of POW vs. POS

    Posted: 30 May 2018 07:26 AM PDT

I've seen some a general sentiment against masternode coins here. Obviously this sub is biased as it is /r/gpumining. Masternodes and POS based coins are the natural enemy of gpu mining.

As one general rule of crypto and mining: don't get attached. It's hard to separate the sub bias from "objective reality."

I see an opportunity in the crypto market for POS coins. We are seeing the beginning of a backlash against crypto mining for energy use reasons. In reality, it is incredibly wasteful in terms of energy and computing power in verifying hundreds of different block chains. POS can fill that opportunity. We are still in the speculative phase of crypto. POS model could be the future, or it could flop and the basis for all scam coins. Since we are all essentially innovation prospectors here, I think the natural reaction would be to hedge your innovation bets on both techs right now.

I see some coins that are both POS and POW that will transition from one to the other over time. This seems like a cute solution (right now) but it's still a crapshoot to see if these coins will gain traction.

I avoided naming specific coins to be called a shill, but I look forward to being called one anyway.

    Spring cleaning GPU mining rigs

    Posted: 29 May 2018 10:21 AM PDT

Hey miners! I just did some "spring cleaning" on my AMD rig and wanted to share the notion. Wanted to ask around how or what you normally do to your rigs or rooms before summer? Or if you do anything at all?

I just took the rig outside, cleaned everything from dust (air-blower / canned air) and also checked the cards for oils etc. I had some good experiences in the past with changing thermalpaste on an older card, so I was taking a special look at the ones I knew were hotter than others, thinking of reapplying thermalpaste for them too (since I bought many GPUs used). While at it I also switched some cards around in the rig since I have one with two 120mm Delta fans on it, which is now an additional rig exhaust (and mines at 48 ° C). That's about it, just wanted to do some cleaning because at least here it's been stormy, so probably the last cool days before summer hits (middle of Europe)

Also (I'm ready to get downvoted =D ) I do YouTube videos on everything I do in my little farm so I also did one about the cleaning session too, also experimenting with some different styles, if anyone's interested: https://youtu.be/4f1Y6s9OD7E

    Co-Location: is it worth it?

    Posted: 29 May 2018 04:29 PM PDT

I'm a CA resident with a few GPU rigs. They're profitable, but adding more toasters to my bedroom in the middle of summer is not an option.

I'm looking to send my rigs to a co-location facility. Hopefully somewhere where the total monthly cost is cheaper that the monthly power cost in CA.

I've found a few candidates, but I'd like to know: - if anyone else currently does this. - are there any reasons not to that I haven't for seen. - are there any that are definitely scams that people should be aware of - are there any that would still allow remote login and power toggling like I have in my current house. - any roughly equivalent options to collocation facilities that I haven't thought of?

Just wanted to take the pulse of the group on this, since I don't see this discussed much on the mining forums.

    QUESTION: Hydroponic Tent Intake/Exhaust Speed

    Posted: 29 May 2018 07:07 PM PDT

With the warmer weather, I could no longer stand my condo feeling like a damn sauna with all of the windows open and the A/C running 24/7 trying to get the temperature down to below 80 degrees. I decided to build a hydroponics tent set-up to manage the heat coming from the rigs. (**See pic**) Now that it's pretty much put together and the rigs are in there, I have a question on how to best get the heat out.

I am running 4 inline fans (~400 CFM each). 2 intakes and 2 exhausts. All 4 are ducted outside.

My question: Should the 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans be running at the same speed? or should the 2 exhaust fans run higher or vice versa? I don't know much about air flow or (negative/positive) pressure so I am pretty much winging it (set all 4 fans on highest setting). My goal is to completely close the tent (all windows closed, no flaps) because I don't want the cold air from the condo A/C going into the tent.

Bonus question: What else can I do to better my set-up?

Thanks in advance my reddit peeps.

    The tent.

    Posted: 29 May 2018 01:52 PM PDT

SO i started thinking there has to be some source of information that can show me a full list of GPU's by brand and type and reported hash rate on all algo's currently being used.

Is there such a thing ?
