Thoughts on recent developments, big picture

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:37 PM PDT

With the quick ups and downs of the market, it's easy to lose track of the big picture. A couple of observations, for what they are worth.

    1) The interview with the Coinbase President/COO was bullish. He said point blank they're not adding anymore coins until there is greater regulatory certainty. Hey, sounds like it is inline with Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse's point of view. Let's work with regulators and get this right. No party wants to break the law in the US, and no one really knows what the law definitively is at this point, including lawyers and regulators, because there isn't much case law to draw from. Expect baby steps moving forward on this front for the next few months.

    2) The Bloomberg article is sensational and seems to come down heavily on Ripple, but try to keep it in context. For all the jokes about good news driving the price down, bad news didn't affect it either. It doesn't really matter.

With exchanges it is typically pay to play. It just so happens we are also in a high profile, high pressure time for government and for companies alike. This is a gold mine for journalism as well. Ripple and Coinbase are arguably the biggest and most mature companies in the US crypto space, they want to get it right, and they know reporters are gonna report, and government investigators are watching.

    3) The Allvor project is pretty cool. Do your own research, but I get a good impression from the team. I wish them the best as they enter the eCommerce space. It was easy to set up a trust line and receive complimentary ARV (thanks!) on my desktop wallet. Goes to show the power of the XRP ledger. Remember, the XRP Ledger is decentralized, not controlled by Ripple (outside of the nodes Ripple operates and code they contribute) and full of possibilities. Anyone can build products atop it. Ripple has built at least 3. Glad to see there is an expanding community.

    4) Countries around the world are going to be in flux over the next few months and years regarding how they treat crypto. Russia, China, India, etc...ultimately blockchain and digital assets are going to prevail, but not every token is going to be available everywhere at anytime. It will be fine in the end. Keep an eye on global xrp volume. The more it is used the more valuable it will become. The value is ultimately in its utility.

    Have a good day/night.

Conversation about Ripple with some people. We brought up some great points & questions if anyone can help answer them.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 08:58 PM PDT

The conversation was between myself and 2 other people. One was a fan of Ripple and worked in finance and one was more skeptical and worked at JPM Bank. We had a great conversation, but a couple points came up:

    • We know from the client/business side of things using these Ripple would be beneficial, but why would it be beneficial for the banks themselves to use Ripple? If banks are charging fees for these intl. money transfers, and making any money on float, why would a bank want to use Ripple? "Because transactions occur in 4 seconds and it's fast and more efficient for the banks", but WHY would banks want that?

    • Does anyone know once a transfer occurs on the network if the transfer stays in Ripple/XRP? Or does it automatically convert to the fiat currencies? I feel as though that it very important question to ask, not sure what the answer is.

I want to start looking at Ripple from more of the bank perspective than business/client perspective. Because I truly believe apart from the govt./any regulation that only the banks stand in the way of Ripple taking over for SWIFT. I just need to learn more about the bank incentive for wanting so. Does anyone know SWIFT's fee structure? Is it expensive for banks to use SWIFT?

Out of all the currencies Ripple is my favorite. But I love taking a step back and thinking about questions too. Please feel free to add anything/help answer these. Thanks!

If the Dollar falls, will it fall in favor of Crypto

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 06:45 PM PDT

Question of dollar to crypto value. When the Dollar value falls, will crypto values rise or not be affected? If it rises will all cryptos benefit, including XRP?

    Story

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 04:19 AM PDT

Actually meant to post this here but did in r/XRP by accident first.

So I'm just curious as to what everyone's story and goals are with XRP, because yes that's what we have not Ripple.

What's your average buy what your end goal if you have one.. what's your reason for investing be it money for yourself, future kids, pay off some debts a nice flat?

I don't wanna hear 'moooon' that shit is boring!

Personally for me my average buy is £0.64/$0.89 (yeah I'm in the UK) and ideally I'd like to down the line get my property portfolio going and hopefully then lead to an easier life!

Question: with the various XRP payment solutions, how does XRP become fiat?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 11:57 AM PDT

    Hi,

Sorry if this is a noob question. I have been following Ripple for a fair amount of time, have spent dozens of hours reading docs and articles etc, but it is one part I have never wrapped my head around.

A lot of the different solutions describe a situation where you are essentially sending XRP as a way of representing fiat, settling payments etc.

Does the XRP ever actually become fiat?

Say for example you are using it in a payments solution (eg Western Union) - person A sends to person B, how does person B actually end up with fiat currency?

Or similarly you are big bank or consortium of banks and you are using it to move money around. Again, surely you have to actually turn it into fiat at some point?

Again sorry if this is an FAQ or a noob question, I honestly have tried to understand - hopefully you won't blame me for asking a question to expand my understanding.

    Buying coffee with ripple?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 10:01 AM PDT

I'm a big believer in ripple, the technology, team, strategy, ongoing successes, everything is lining up for a price explosion which will do wonders for my portfolio. However one thing I never see mentioned in discussions around here is the possibility of using xrp for small purchases at physical or online retail establishments. I know the main push is for banks and cross border stuff, but is individual everyday use a part of the roadmap? Has anyone from ripple ever talked about this use case? It's a big focus with a lot of other crypto assets so I'm just curious where xrp stands. Thanks!
