I rounded up a few excerpts of David Schwartz's Reddit comments that illustrate why FIs will want a high XRP price due to better liquidity, and reinforces Ripple's desire for the price to rise.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:27 AM PST

    Example 1:

Ripple says it's promoting XRP usage. How? Does a low XRP price have a positive effect on adoption of XRP?

A low price discourages usage because it almost always correlates with higher carrying cost and lower liquidity. We want to bring liquidity up, carrying cost down, and build a robust ecosystem of connections between XRP and existing payment endpoints.

    From this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/XRP/comments/7guyy4/link_between_xrp_and_ripple/dt1f9xc/

    Example 2:

Also, the higher the price, the higher the liquidity tends to be. Higher liquidity makes payments cheaper. Imagine if you tried to buy a house for bitcoins when they were worth $100. The seller would have significantly depressed the market, causing them to take a large loss. Today, with the price so much higher, that's not a problem. So a higher price for XRP makes it cheaper to use XRP for settlement.

    From this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/XRP/comments/7mhsdo/difficult_question_about_xrp/dru9dxi/

    Example 3:

Could you use bitcoin to buy a house when the price was $100? Of course not. It would cost you too much to buy that much bitcoin because you would be buying such a large fraction of the supply you'd raise the price too much. And ditto on the sales side as you would push the price down too much.

So, no, you want a price as high as possible for a currency that intermediates payments.

    From this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ripple/comments/7i4g8a/why_would_xrp_rise/dqw3s4x/

    Example 4:

First, Ripple has a direct financial interest in the value of XRP being as high as possible. The higher the price of XRP, the more value Ripple can extract for its shareholders from its XRP and the greater Ripple's ability to use XRP to incentivize partners.

Second, the value of XRP directly affects its ability to intermediate large payments. You couldn't be a house with bitcoins when bitcoins were worth $1. You can now.

Third, the best case scenario would be a general upward trend in price. That would mean that the cost of holding XRP would be zero or negative. For example, today, given the general upward trend in the price of bitcoins, you can hold bitcoins at zero (or even negative) cost by transferring both the upside and the downside to another party.

Fourth, Ripple would likely gladly offer to cover FI's losses holding XRP in exchange for a generally higher price. Remember, Ripple is the largest holder of XRP.

    From this comment: https://www.reddit.com/user/sjoelkatz/comments/?sort=new&after=t1_dmwurxl&count=275

On Ripple wanting a high price:

Why would Ripple want a low price for XRP though? Ripple is the majority holder of XRP and would want the long term price to be as high as it can possibly be. So this would be a clever strategy to minimize our returns?

It's clearly in our interest to do everything we can to maximize the long-term price of XRP and get as much as we can for the XRP we hold. We have announced a strategy to do that and there's plenty of public evidence that we're executing on that strategy.

You would have to argue either: 1) Ripple is stupid, or

    2) Ripple has no XRP strategy that could possibly work to raise the price over the long term and is evil.

Otherwise, there is no rational reason why we would not continue to execute our publicly announced strategy and do everything we can to maximize the price of XRP over at least the time it takes us to sell the XRP we have.

Today's price jump is completely rational, if you know what crypto's rationale is

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 04:11 PM PST

We see a couple of great news and partnership announcements, price jumps a bit and then it goes down. But everyone is expecting a huge jump, so there's so much hope in this coin.

Now there's some rumour going on about the Tuesday meeting, people complain why the market is running now, just because of some rumour. And then they say it's irrational.

But there are two simple reasons to why this run will continue until Tuesday (with the likely possibility of extending to after Tuesday as well, depending on how the CNBC Fast money discussion goes and if there would be a major announcement ):

    1) The market has used to partnership announcements, it's waiting for something new, something unique, and the possibility of Coinbase listing provides that.

    2) A constant bull run needs constant hope/fomo. An event that is expected to happen sometime in the new future. That will keep the market running as we get closer to that potential event. In contrary, an instant announcement creates the hype, but because there are always lots of day traders who are afraid of missing the ATH, they start to dump their coin after some satisfying gain has been made. Every time Ripple has 2-5xed in price, it has happened over a couple of days and the best scenario to keep the hope for a couple of days in this bearish market of these days is a potential outstanding news in the near future.

    Hi,

Inspired by the recent news about SMBs and store owners accepting XRP, I decided to develop a small tool that lets you generate a XRP Payment request QR in a few seconds.

The tool supports rate converting (EUR, USD, etc.) and will show you live confirmation of payment 🎉

Nice logarithmic scale analysis. 10-14$ xrp. Not my work.

This is someone's link I came across. The past does not predict the future, but it helps create an understanding of what the future may look like. Xrp has gained 14x in the past on a bull run multiple times.

How XRP Fits Into Ripple's Payments Products Explained

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:24 PM PST

This is why the price of XRP will go up

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:28 AM PST

We're all bored until the next wave up, so let me explain why the price will go up big time. The only condition is xRapid being adopted, which clearly is happening, so the price will go up. Here is why (I am not a native speaker, so exuse me if my formulations are not very smooth).

    1) There is a limited number of XRPs and this number is going down (a tiny fraction of XRP being burned with every transaction).

    2) With an increasing volume of transactions and the amount of XRP going down, the value of XRP has to go up to accommodate the rising volume of transactions. With XRP at $1 you cannot move trillions, so the price will have to be higher.

    3) XRP is in a fairly unique situation, because it is used as a bridge currency/asset to settle transactions with other currencies/assets. This means that demand doesn't care what is the price of XRP. If you want to send money from Europe to the US, from EUR to USD, you don't care how much one XRP costs, you don't care if for bridging your transaction there was 10 XRP used or 1000 XRP.

In normal market conditions demand wants the price of an asset down, meanwhile offer wants it up. The market price is where demand and offer cross. But as I explained, utility demand for XRP won't care for the price, only for the spreads/liquidity. So, there is only offer that cares about the price and it wants it up. And technicalities, because as explained in 2), with increasing volume of transactions and decreasing supply of XRP, the price of XRP has to go up.

Now, the question is, who will represent offer with XRP? Who are and will be market makers? Entities that will accumulate XRP. I think not only exchanges, but also banks, the same way they are market makers for you when you want to exchange fiats, but it is not that important at this time).

You want to do a transaction, they will sell you XRPs for your fiat and then buy the XRP back with another fiat to settle the transaction in the desired currency. The spread between their sale and buy prices will be their earnings (everything is of course done automatically and takes only seconds within xRapid).

But not only that. As they will be XRP holders, they will also be interested in driving the price up in every possible way. This way in the future they might sell some of their holdings for profits and with the increasing price still be able to answer the demand for XRP for the transaction bridging purpose. New market makers will enter the market, because they will want to make money through the market making process and possibly with holding as well.

So far the market has been dominated by speculation, this is why the price of XRP is doing such crazy waves. But I think that at this time it is clear that XRP has real utility that will increase demand for this asset. Being a market maker is and will be profitable, like with Forex. Fiat currencies are used to move value, so will be XRP.

So, there will be time when present crypto pump and dump whales will become irrelevant with XRP, when the big players will all want the price of XRP to go up and when the price will be way, way higher (forget about the market cap thing, XRP is not a stock, it is a vehicle that will move trillions, so it has to have an adequate value for this task).

The momentum behind XRP and Ripple has quickly built into the size of a freight train. I make a good-faith attempt to cover all the news items of the last seven days, including The AMA (Ask Me Anything) session that David Schwartz held on Reddit.

The other news items are extensive as well, including updates to xRapid customers, general Ripple technology adoption, and community updates. In addition, throw in two interviews with Ripple executives and you have a very busy week indeed.

Hope you enjoy the read - please leave any feedback below and I'll make an effort to respond individually.

What would it take to make you cash out?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 05:59 AM PST

    From two perspectives:

The first, a negative perspective?. Say it's added to coinbase and still the price sits around $0.92 do we still scream hodl and digitally high five each other for reassurance? Surely that's as much of a bad sign as we would need?

    Or..

A positive perspective, say it peaks at $6 following being added to an exchange like Coinbase? Pretty sure it would peak at around that level and have an immediate dip?

I've only been a rippler for a few months, I'd be interest to hear peoples' thoughts.

One question no one asks Brad or David

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 06:22 AM PST

One question that no one asks Brad or David is if it matters to clients if that price of XRP is either $1 or $5 or $10. Agreed that liquidity is key, but technically for a customer using xRapid, even in production, right now, does the price of XRP matter? As long the price of the token is non-volatile, it works irrespective of the actual price of the token. Thoughts?

I think this is one key reason why Brad tends to say it doesn't matter what the price of XRP is now or tomorrow, instead we can look at the price 3 or 5 years down the line. Price could just be $3 or $5. Either way it won't matter to how Ripple products will function in the future. Their success isn't dependent on price of the token.
