PSA: Litecoin wallets are actively targeted by phishing sites and wallet stealing malware Posted: 09 Mar 2018 10:04 AM PST As the owner of https://www.litevault.net I'm seeing more and more reports of users losing their coins. This is not a problem with LiteVault. There are a lot of phishing sites using Google Adsense to appear at the top of Google, combined with wallet stealing software (such as a fake Electrum website). Install ad-blocking software. The most reliable is uBlock origin. Advertisements are one of the biggest ways of sending links to phishing websites, for example on Google these ads can blend into the search results, which can trick unsavvy users into clicking them. Make sure 2FA is enabled for all exchanges and web wallets (such as LiteVault). This will not protect you completely, but it will protect you if your password is stolen on another website. If your computer is compromised (e.g. coin stealing malware), you may be screwed regardless of 2FA. Do NOT store more on desktop and web wallets than you are willing to lose. For large amounts, use a hardware wallet, e.g. Ledger. If you store your coins on Windows desktop wallets, or use Windows to access web wallets, it's strongly recommended to purchase MalwareBytes Premium (no, I am not sponsored, MalwareBytes is practically the only good security software for Windows here in 2018...) When downloading new software, ALWAYS scan it with https://www.virustotal.com - this is not perfect, but it may help you verify if something is safe or not. If you have any doubts about the software DO NOT RUN IT. - coin stealing malware is everywhere, including on legitimate websites that have been hacked (e.g. the official Electrum site was hacked a few months ago and distributing infected installers...) I'd also like to advise people that security software is not perfect. If you have any doubts that your system is infected, RE-INSTALL YOUR COMPUTER After re-installing, RE-GENERATE YOUR WALLETS. If your wallet is compromised, the attacker can still steal your coins after re-installing, so GENERATE A NEW ONE. For LiteVault this means make an entirely new wallet, with a different password. Posted: 08 Mar 2018 05:05 PM PST I believe that this could have a large impact on LTC if the option to pay with it was implemented into their buying system. Any ideas on how to contact Epic about this would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
Star Trek meets Crypto! Make it so. Posted: 09 Mar 2018 07:49 AM PST A mate of mine in England is crowdfunding for his second Star Trek (The Next Generation) film. Don't roll your eyes though, the first one was actually pretty good and this new one apparently will be even better. He's only looking for about 9K GBP and considering how good the first one was with a budget of about 2K I thought I'd post this here and see if anyone wanted to help him out as it looks pretty cool. Kind of a fun looking project anyway, and it could be a good way of getting a shout-out to the LiteCoin community with an on-screen credit too, which he'd be happy to do if he gets enough to fund the project. A lot of us probably grew up with some form of Star Trek - mine was TNG and so I've chucked a bit his way. Kickstarter doesn't yet accept crypto unfortunately, however I've setup a LTC wallet if anyone is feeling generous
I will of course refund all your LTC to the receiving addresses should he not hit the Kickstarter goal. Here's the Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/2F0wirX And if I didn't convince you, maybe this will might: [link] [comments]
