    New Flair Rule

We've been overwhelmed with newcomer posts. In light of this, we created a bot that will PM people without flairs various pertinent information to read through when they post. In order to stop receiving these, simply add a flair to your name. Thanks!

    Scam Warning

Hey guys. There have been numerous scammers lately who have been private messaging redditors. Their goal is for you to send Litecoins to their address. So far, they've followed the same writing template. It looks something like this: https://imgur.com/0UZczuz

If someone is telling you to send to a Litecoin address they are providing, DON'T. They're trying to steal your Litecoins. If you're not sure, read the wealth of knowledge below or comment below and I will eventually get to you.

    Welcome to /r/Litecoin!

(Re-post of u/Sparkswont cuz it was archived)

Whether you're new to cryptocurrency and have no clue what a 'litecoin' is, or a seasoned investor in cryptocurrencies, the resources below will answer all your questions. If you still have questions, feel free to ask below in the comments!

    What is Litecoin?

Litecoin (LTC or Ł) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project released under the MIT/X11 license. Litecoin is one of the largest, oldest, and most used cryptocurrencies in the world. Similar to Bitcoin, Litecoin uses blockchain technology to process transactions.

So what's the difference? To process a block, Litecoin takes 2.5 minutes rather than Bitcoins 10 minutes. This allows for faster processing times. Litecoin also has the capability to produce a total of 84 million units, compared to Bitcoins 21 million. In addition, Litecoin uses scrypt in its proof-of-work algorithm, a sequential memory-hard function requiring asymptotically more memory than an algorithm which is not memory-hard.

Still confused? Take a look at this video!

    Where can I buy Litecoin?

There are many websites and applications where you can buy and sell Litecoin, but make sure the exchange you are using is trusted and secure. Here are some exchanges that are trusted in the cryptocurrency community:

    Exchange
    Coinbase USD/Euro/GBP
    Quadrigacx CAD
    Coinsquare CAD
    Bithump KRW
    OKCoin Euro/Yen/USD
    OKex CNY
    Btcmarkets.net AUD
    Bitso MXN
    Binance No fiat/Many altcoins
    Zebpay INR

Where can I securely store Litecoin?

Litecoin (and other cryptocurrencies) is stored in a digital wallet. When storing Litecoin, you want to make sure you trust the place you store them. This is why it is best to store them yourself through the electrum wallet. It is highly suggested to not store your Litecoin in an exchange (such as Coinbase, Poloniex, Bittrex, etc.) because you don't control the private keys. If the exchange ever goes offline, or becomes insolvent, your Litecoin essentially disappear.

    Some other options are:

    Wallet
    Electrum Lightweight Wallet
    Official Core Wallet
    LiteVault Secure Web Wallet
    Paper Wallet Generator

If you're a fan of mobile devices, then Loafwallet is the wallet for you. Developed by a Litecoin Foundation Dev, /u/losh11, this mobile wallet works great! And remember to always make sure to write down your seedkeys.

Hardware wallets are another great option, in fact, they are said to be the most secure way to store cryptocurrencies. Below is a list of the litecoin flexible hardware wallets.

    Wallet
    Ledger
    Trezor
    Keepkey

    Where can I spend Litecoin?

Litecoin is in the top ten of all cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Websites are rapidly adopting Litecoin as a method of payment as well. If you yourself want to accept LTC as a business, you can refer to these merchant manuals. Alternatively, if you would like to explore websites that accept Litecoin, head over to /r/AcceptingLTC.

Here are also several of our favorite merchants accepting Litecoin.

    Where can I discuss Litecoin?

The Litecoin community is extremely kind and robust. There are many forums and places where you can discuss Litecoin with others who are interested in the currency. Here are the main ones:

    Platform
    Reddit
    Litecoin Markets Subreddit
    Discord
    Official Forum
    IRC

    Additional Resources and Help

If you have more questions, or are genuinely interested in learning more about Litecoin then be sure to read this series. If you have a specific question that you can't seem to find the answer too, ask below and someone will help you out!

There is nothing in the world that could happen to make me sell at a 60% loss

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 07:56 AM PDT

I'm either going all the way to zero and losing 12% of my life savings, or we're taking this bitch to the promised land of life-changing money. Those are the only two options. There is nothing you can do to me to make me call it quits. I believe in the technology too much. And beyond that, this community makes the pain and suffering more than bearable. So let's embrace the ride. We'll get there someday. And if we don't, it's only 12%. Hopefully you can relate.

    Hodl strong, friends.

    My Experience with Abra App

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 09:09 AM PDT

Just an update on my experience with the Abra app thus far and a wish list...

I installed the app after the "surprise" was announced and was super impressed with the ease of setup. I wanted to try the features right away so I funded my Abra by sending in some Bitcoin from another wallet. The bitcoin arrived quickly with no incoming fees and was fully available to spend, withdrawal, or exchange.

I exchanged some of that bitcoin for litecoin which was again super easy, lightning fast, and with no fees. I was hoping that the litecoin would be spendable or at least sendable, however I learned that this feature would not be available until a future update. That's ok. I can always exchange it back to bitcoin with no fee and use it then.

I set up both a bank account and an Amex card in the app so I could try purchases. To verify the bank account, Abra sent two small deposits to my bank that I had to confirm. Those hit my bank the next day and confirming was easy. For the Amex Card, I had me wait one business day before I was allowed to make purchases. After verifying my bank and waiting for the Amex Card approval, I tried purchasing some bitcoin. I bought $50 from my bank as a trial and it was in my Abra one day later and with no fee. - an awesome improvement over Coinbase 7 day waits. I also purchase $50 of bitcoin with my Amex Card and that bitcoin was available immediately. My Amex online showed a "purchase" of $52 which is the $50 with the advertised 4% fee. I was glad to see it as a purchase rather than a cash advance.

As for a wish list, I would like to see the app allow for incoming litecoin rather than an exchange to litecoin. I would also like to see my litecoin be spendable and sendable from within the app rather than having to exchange back to bitcoin. Fortunately, all of the above wishes have been promised for a future update.

I hope this helps shed some light on Abra. All in all, I think it's a great idea and a great app!

Can we talk about Łitepay and it's catastrophic AMA

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 12:42 AM PDT

Łitepay, supposedly is this payment processor that removes the volatility from sellers and gives convenience to buyers to spend their litecoin.

So what happened? The CEO, Kenneth Asare, was here on this subreddit, to help us understand what went wrong, he managed to answer 8 questions during the entire AMA, it was 10 hours ago from the time of this post. Every answer was generic fluff, giving no details on the things that matter.

"How many merchants have signed up?" "Why the lack of transparency, specially in a speculative market?" "How big is the team?" Are there any tools for developers? "Website looks like a scam, no actual links, registered at a virtual office, convince me this is real?" "Why wait until the last day to tell us it's not happening?" This list goes on...

All very crucial and fair questions, unanswered.

I am sorry, I will be okay with litepay not being a real thing, but I am afraid this is just poisoning the landscape even more. I don't want this to be treated like a pitchfork, but we have questions and we want them answered, it doesn't take a lot of effort to do that. For a company that wants to be tomorrow's payment processor, this is just extremely sloppy.

    Regarding Abra's integration with LTC

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 07:35 PM PDT

Hi everyone, hope this post is up voted for visibility. I've been answering a number of questions on this subreddit as well as r/cryptocurrency, r/btc, and r/bitcoin.

Anyways, I've both replied to comments as well as direct messaged and I stated something that was incorrect.

We will be changing non-BTC transactions to be done on the LTC blockchain/network within two or so weeks. That being said, I was informed a few hours ago that we will not have LTC deposits ready until hopefully early Q2.

I misheard a conversation at Token Fest and thought we would have direct LTC deposits and withdrawals ready within the two or so weeks. That is not true and my sincere apologies for confusing and misleading people.

So, please forgive me and wait a little longer and we'll get that integration set up. We do not have an exact date as to when LTC will be directly supported for deposits and withdrawals at this time.

I would be down to do a mini-AMA in this thread if you'd like to get to know me and Abra as well as ask random questions. Please note that I do customer operations, so I can't get too technical unfortunately.

Please let me know if you guys have any questions or have any concerns.

Thank you guys! -Ryan from Abra

Can we stop talking about Łitepay and it's catastrophic AMA

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 12:22 PM PDT

As I stated 2 weeks ago, this Kenneth Asare guy is a complete mess. He thinks he's clever and can't see the fact that he's a total dunce and every time he comes up for air makes even a greater ass of himself. He reminds me of that fat slob Shawn Eckhart from the Tanya Harding saga in that it appears Kenneth is living in a delusional world cut off from reality.

Rather than rehash all the reasons why this guys is a first class buffoon, I'd say it's time to just write him off. Face it, Litepay was a bust and not because of the idea, but the one man jester running the "bullshit three ring circus sideshow." Flush this man away people.

Mar 17 2018 Crypto Market Report - Contains Litecoin

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 12:29 PM PDT

I think the importance of the backers of the lightning network is a major aspect

    Posted: 16 Mar 2018 09:55 PM PDT

Backers include Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square and Twitter, David Sacks, former COO of PayPal, and Bill Lee, angel investor in Tesla and SpaceX, Jacqueline Reses, head of Square Capital

We all know it's about who you know in the business world. These people have contacts and serious pull. If Charlie is working with these people on more than just lightning there is no telling what we can expect.

Been following subreddit for a while, have always wanted to own some litecoin. I skipped passed the 100 something dip a while ago but the price is nearing it again. Now it’s time for me to finally cash in on some delicious honey!

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 11:27 AM PDT

Why is Litecoin dropping as of right now anyway? Also buying litecoin because of how seamless the transactions seem to be and because it's a better choice than most other cryptocurrencies, I feel as though Litecoin has great potential!

    Legit questions about Abra...

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 10:40 AM PDT

NOTE TO MODS: My apologies if this is the wrong subreddit to post this. Simply message me and I will remove. Thank you!

First question. In the Abra app, to my understanding, we can exchange Litecoin to USD, and USD to Litecoin, as many times as we want with 0 fees? What's the catch? I wants to play with 100 bucks and buy the dips and exchange to USD at the gains, repeat. I want to see how much I can earn little by little doing this.

Second question: I converted $60 worth of Bitcoin to Litecoin. I want to send this Litecoin to my LoafWallet. How do I do this? I can't find this option to send Litecoin in the Abra app.

    Thank you Litecoin community.

    Loaf Wallet (Android) exchange rate.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2018 03:49 AM PDT

Hi hodlers. So when I previously exchanged BTC to LTC via Shapeshift on my iPhone, the app would show the exchange rate under transaction details. On the Android app, I'm not able to see that info. What is the best way to find this info. Thanks.
