Is POA Network and Tomochain like having EOS running as an Ethereum sidechain? Different from Plasma chains?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2018 12:47 PM PDT

I'm making this connection because there looks to be many similarities between Proof of Authority and Delegated Proof of Stake. Participants stake their identity and have the ability to elect block producers.

How would they interact with or affect the Ethereum ecosystem as sidechains and how are they different from a Plasma chain?

Immutable Ethereum blockchain and the GDPR. Is this solution good enough for the GDPR?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2018 09:34 AM PDT

The new European regulations regarding user data privacy provides a big challenge to DApps on the Ethereum immutable blockchain. The "right to be forgotten" that the GDPR demands means that users have the right to demand that their data can be fully erased if they request it. There lies the inherent, giant conflict.

If there are any people here knowledgeable in both the GDPR and blockchain cryptography, please tell me if the following idea would satisfy the GDPR.

Suppose the data is stored in encrypted form, encrypted using a private key held by the user. Note, this private key is not their wallet address key, but a special "user data" private key. When the user wants to share data anyone, they or most likely a web app acting on their behalf, call a function providing their private key (not their Ethereum wallet private key, a separate private key created just to encrypt their private data on to the blockchain). The web app passes the data on to the party the user wants to share the data with, along with the encrypted data blocks stored on the blockchain. The encrypted user data blocks are requested from the host smart contract.

Those encrypted user data blocks and the given private key are used to decrypt the data first and then the data is shared with the approved 3rd party. (Or they are decrypted to something like AES 256-bit resulting in a double data decrpytion at the data receivers end, so that the data is not passed in plain text form over the Web).

In other words, there is an OAuth-ish transaction done on the user's behalf to pass their private data on to any third party.

As a final failsafe, the user is given ownership of their smart contract and can execute a "kill-contract" operation at any time, knowing that they lose access to the data permanently if they do so. Obviously there will need to be other verifications before executing this operation so that a malicious 3rd party that stole their user data private key doesn't do that just to create mayhem for the user.

So the data still resides on the blockchain in encrypted form, but without the user's private key it is useless to anyone except those parties they share the data with (without sharing their private as i mentioned above).

Would that satisfy the GDPR's "right-to-be-forgotten" requirements?

How good the Ethereum based games?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:13 PM PDT

So we like seeing DAPPS and blockchain based projects. I know that blockchains, specially ethereum's blockchain can be used for many different things and it would be better than the other methods. However, I have a question here, how good the Ethereum based games? I mean, I have seen a "Go" game which is Ethereum based and it takes days, even weeks to finish one simple game while you can play a game in 10-15 minutes online with classic methods. So, at this point, I'd like to discuss that how useable and adoptable the gaming on the ETH network?

I think different type of applications such as credit scoring can be a good example of blockchain usage but games aren't the best things we can do on the blockchain and they just add more pressure on the blockchain and transactions.

As it takes Forever and a day to sync, why is there not a site that lists the amount of state entries in the trie?????????

    Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:09 AM PDT

no text needed, I been syncing for over a week now and am puzzled by people think its normal to just sit and wait for something with no idea how much longer it has to go, no percentage, nothing......seems like one of the habits of modern software devs along with a lack of decent error reporting.
