It's time we as a community moved away from Bitcoin

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 09:51 PM PST

It's ridiculous that every time BTC dumps all alts dump. Enough! It's time we as a community said no to BTC. Fuck BTC! Fuck the BTC whales! Fuck the BTC miners! Fuck the BTC drama! We honestly don't need BTC anymore. No one does. It's archaic, slow, and expensive. 2018 belongs to the alts! 2018 belongs to the promising projects!

If you truly believe in the future of Crypto you will sell any BTC holdings you might have and invest in promising alts. Stop caring about BTC. Don't let the price of BTC dictate whether you sell your alts or not. IT'S RIDICULOUS! We need BTC dominance down. Way down! Only when BTC's dominance is under 10% will we have a thriving market.

Spread this message! Time to move away from BTC!

Edit: Contact your favorite exchanges and urge them to implement more pairings! Enough is enough. STOP USING BTC TO PURCHASE ALTS. Use ETH or LTC or whatever else is available for now! This is a psychological battle!

Official Stance from Central bank of China: Digital currency inevitable, Gradual change, Focus on financial stability and risk prevention

China is in no hurry in developing a digital currency, Zhou Xiaochuan, the country's central bank governor, said here Friday. The development of a digital currency should be a prudent progress and avoid excessive speculation, Zhou said at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress. He added that the financial sector should focus on serving the real economy.

    http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2018-03/09/c_137027034.htm

Zhou Xiaochuan stated that the development of digital currency is inevitable. The Central Bank's research and development name is DCEP (Digital Currency Electronic Payment), DC is a digital currency, and EP is electronic payment. In the future, traditional banknotes may gradually shrink in size and may not even exist one day. However, in this whole process, we must pay attention to overall financial stability and prevent risks. As a currency, digital currency must consider the transmission mechanism of monetary policy and financial stability at the time of issuance, and at the same time pay attention to protecting consumers. As a big country economy, we must avoid making substantial irreparable losses, so we must pass thorough tests to ensure that we can promote it after it is reliable.

"Lots of cryptocurrencies have seen explosive growth which can bring significant negative impact on consumers and retail investors," Zhou said. "We don't like (cryptocurrency) products that make huge opportunity for speculation that gives people the illusion of getting rich overnight."

    My thoughts on the matter

It's still a long way away, but once a digital RMB is announced, I think it will serve to fulfil all the roles of traditional RMB with extra advantages to the banking system and the Chinese Government. The primary advantages of the digital RMB will be the ability for the Central Bank to control and monitor the flow of currency with precision, thereby obtaining more actionable data to inform monetary policy, reduce circulation costs, increase transparency and curb criminal activity (money laundering & tax evasion).

I predict that the digital RMB will be closely tied to a digital identity that all Chinese citizens will need to possess, therefore money laundering and tax evasion will become extremely difficult. Following the money trail to catch criminals will become simple. In combination with the extensive CCTV network in China, committing a crime and getting away with it will be more difficult.

I feel digital RMB will probably happen within the next 5 years. The digitisation of the RMB will occur gradually and be co-ordinated by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and the four major Chinese banks, Bank of China (BOC), the China Construction Bank (CCB), the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). The population of China will barely realise it happening. The citizens of China will not mind the change as it is similar to their existing status quo (most transactions in 2018 are digital anyway with WeChat, AliPay, cash is rarely used). Law abiding citizens will not notice a difference in their day to day lives as the RMB they use is replaced by digital RMB.

    What do others think?

    271 days and counting

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 02:58 PM PST

Not 7 days ago, 14 or even 30! No, 271 days ago I deposited 1836 ICN tokens into an account with Kraken. After all this time the tokens are still on hold. I have literally lost count of how many times we have exchanged emails. Kraken have informed me time and time again that they'll release the funds, yet still nothing has happened. I would like to ask the community if anyone else has experienced such long delays with Kraken before? Thank you

Curious about Crypto Inheritance? Take a look at DGPT.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 05:57 PM PST

Hey guys, hope ya'll having a good night.

Was in a discussion with my co-worker this morning about Crypto (he's not invested and skeptical), he was throwing the classic questions/statements like "it's not backed by anything" "prone to hacking" - I was handling them all like a pro. We're all familar with the answers. Then, he hit me with "What happens if you die and you hold coins?". I had to take a minute and think for a while, I wasn't able to give him a really solid answer. Told him I'd do a bit of research tonight and get back to him. Here's what I found.

Due to the nature of cryptocurrency, your estate probably can't bruteforce their way into your private key to recover funds in the case nothing is setup.

If you store the private key for them, it's possible that it gets lost, or discarded if they're not sure what it is, resulting in your coins being lost forever.

I went looking for a commercial project - commercial products generally provide ease of use for the 99%. Here's what I found.

    There's two I found, DigiPulse & MyWish.

MyWish is a great platform as a whole, although not specifically focused on the passing of coins, instead smart contract execution. Because of this I prefer DigiPulse. If a project focuses on too many different projects, some are sure to get left behind while the team focuses on the most sucesful ones.

DigiPulse is a platform exclusively for Crypto inheritance, which is why I like it. In short, it has a real use case and a working product, right now.

The team is strong, and the devs actively contribute to their github. This is shown in the BETA being released less than 3 months after ICO.

Great advisors, I saw one of them runs the biggest startup accelerator in the EU - this is huge for the team as they'll be able to use their advisors connections to literally 100s of different companies.

The market cap is tiny. If you're considering having a couple of moon shots, DGPT is probably the closest you'll get to sure bet. The exchanges leave a bit to be desired, and a new exchange listing is confirmed for the first week of April.

They're already getting noticed by the mainstream. The team are TechChill finalists and are being featured in a Forbes article.

If you couldn't tell, I'm really excited by this project. After discovering it today, I did make a purchase (full disclosure!). I'm super glad that there is a solution in BETA for Crypto inheritance and I'm curious to hear your thoughts!

China will have its own digital currency based on blockchain technology says PBOC - Amazing news for blockchain

    Posted: 09 Mar 2018 02:56 AM PST

PBOC Chairman just announced a digital currency for China, under the ticker DCEP.

DCEP will be based on Distributed Architecture and DLT, focusing on payment solutions.

PBOC Chairman's latest comment on ICO and Bitcoin Trading:

    1. Bad ICOs and coins must be put on hold.
    2. Good ICOs and coins must be tested and validated for the technologies and market application.
    3. No immediate further sanctions will be made in the near future.

Furthermore, ICOs must not serve as a tool to get super rich overnight, PBOC recognizes some technologies in ICO may have positive influences on real market economy, and PBOC has an open arm for that.

Test usage may start next year (for DECP). DECP stands for Digital Currency for Electronic Payment.

How to buy crypto paying no fees, for beginners.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 10:37 AM PST

Hey guys, thought I'd give a quick run down of how I and many others buy crypto, paying no fees to do so. This may also be a way to bypass your bank's restrictions on buying crypto.

Please note: This is for newbies, or anyone who didn't know this was possible without paying fees. This is for people who live in a country which does not use EUR. This is only applicable in countries where you have legal access to the services of Revolut and Coinbase.

99% of you will have used Coinbase before, but if you don't know what Revolut is, it's just a digital bank and fiat exchange which charges no fees.

Step 1: Send your native fiat currency, for example GBP, to Revolut via debit card. This is easy to set up, Revolut walks you through it when you set up an account. This transfer should be near instant.

Step 2: Exchange your native fiat currency to EUR on Revolut. This again is instant, free and easy.

Step 3: Bank transfer your EUR to Coinbase. This is the only step which is not instant, it usually takes between 8 and 24 hours. I have done this a few times and it's taken less than 24 hours each time.

Step 4: Go onto GDAX, which is Coinbase's exchange. Transfer your EUR into your GDAX wallet from Coinbase. This is instant.

Step 5: Buy your crypto on GDAX using EUR pairings, making sure to use Limit orders instead of Market orders, as these are free.

Step 6: Transfer your crypto from GDAX to a personal wallet, or another exchange like Binance.

To conclude, all of these steps are feeless. You get exactly the amount of BTC, BCH, LTC or ETH that your native fiat is worth. If further clarification of any steps is needed just ask below, I purposely left out the detail as most of it is straightforward, and tutorials are available online if necessary.

EDIT: Removed USD as an option, Step 3 is only feeless if done by SEPA transfer.

Does your wife actually know the “exact” amount you invested in crypto?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 08:36 PM PST

I don't want to stress her out by telling the truth about the investment and the losses. She thinks it's 25% of the amount I actually invested. She also asks me for ROI status now and then. I explained to her the importance of hodling and that I'm a hodler for an year atleast. I don't know if I'm making a mistake by not telling her in detail, but I've decided to continue hodling for an year atleast sincerely for a good ROI.

Most talked about cryptos in Japan

    Posted: 09 Mar 2018 03:04 AM PST

I noticed a while ago on Coinhills that Japan accounts for 60% of BTC volumes which surprised me because I thought Korea would be top.

Digging deeper it seems CoinMarketCap understates BTC volumes on Bitflyer, the largest Japanese exchange, by a wide margin – $265,000,000 on CMC vs. ~$2,500,000,000 according to Bitflyer in the last 24 hours

CMC are only taking the volume of BTCJPY traded on Bitflyer's main site and missing the volume on Bitflyer Lightning. Think of it like only getting volume data from Coinbase and not GDAX.

Once I realised this I started being more active in the Japanese crypto spheres and noticed they're into some coins like MONA which aren't nearly as on Reddit. They're also huge on Binance (since the domestic exchanges don't provide access to that many alts) which implies their trading presence extends far beyond the JPY pairs.

I'm currently writing a report based on my findings for some clients. It's focused on uncovering tokens that are gaining interest with the Japanese crowd but aren't on the radar of Western investors. If you're interested I can share partial results when it's done, like a list of the most talked about cryptos in Japan. Any other info you'd be interested in?

TL;DR: • Japan is bigger in cryptos than I thought • They look at some different coins than Reddit • I'll share a report I'm writing if anyone's interested

Good news from the Netherlands, regulation for crypto, no prohibition.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 11:22 AM PST

Minister Wopke Hoekstra of Finance wants to regulate international trade in cryptocurrency to tackle improper use of digital coins. A prohibition is not obvious.

He wants to bring cryptocurrencies within an "appropriate regulatory framework" without jeopardizing the potential of the technique.

For example, the conversion of digital currencies into regular money should not be allowed to go unnoticed. The minister wants exchange platforms and providers of storage vouchers for cryptocurrencies to be covered by anti-money laundering directives.

Legislation should be finished by the end of 2019

Anti-shilling is equally annoying, if not worse, than shilling.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 03:11 PM PST

When everyone starts talking shit about a useful crypto because it's getting shilled a lot, that's a problem. GVT is the new one, before it was VEN and NANO, and so on. It seems that if a coin starts to do well, many people get upset, when in reality, any significant crypto that does well is good for crypto as a whole. Who cares if people are shilling their favorite crypto (unless its something like bitconnect). Unless your anti-shill post gives legitimate reasoning to your negative view on the crypto, then it does more harm than the original shill post. You spread your negative bias based on nothing else besides emotion and deter potential new investors. A lot of you don't even research the project, you literally base your decision on the amount of shilling it has. Both mindless shilling and anti-shilling need to stop, but I definitely prefer mindless shilling to the latter.

edit*: didn't mean to put this as development, but i guess that works

edit 2*: i meant to put mindless anti-shilling vs shilling in the title; constructive is good! :)
