Why does Changelly list BTC as "Bitcoin Core"? Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:39 PM PDT
PSA: "Bitcoin Core" is not a cryptocurrency Posted: 12 Mar 2018 01:47 AM PDT It is the name of a software implementation of the Bitcoin protocol - the protocol for the cryptocurrency 'Bitcoin'. Anyone can make a different node program similar to Bitcoin Core, as long as it follows the protocol (consensus) rules. This is analagous to there being multiple web browsers for the http-protocol. Some people dont seem to understand this. [link] [comments]

My mom works in finance and had some interesting things to say about Bitcoin Posted: 11 Mar 2018 11:42 AM PDT I was surprised that she was "all for it". She has worked in forensic accounting, CPA, and compliance, so it surprised me since I expected her to be conservative with her thoughts on it as an investment. She's also very religious, so I expected her to say something about "the number of the beast" but she answered that before I had a chance to ask: "I remember back in the 60's when Visa and Mastercard became a thing and people didn't understand those either...they said all these things about the number of the beast in church about credit cards and it sounded as crazy then to me as it does now...Bitcoin WILL BE the world currency someday...we live in a SciFi future I wished for as a kid...what's the next big thing?" Almost 50% of bitcoin transactions are batched Posted: 11 Mar 2018 06:36 PM PDT I added information about batched transactions to my bitcoin fee statistics program, and was surprised to find that almost half of transactions are batched. Batching is also twice as common for legacy transactions, which leads me to think that a lot more exchanges have implemented batching than segwit (which makes sense for them since batching saves them more in fees than segwit). Did you know? For McAfee to win his bet, BTC only needs to be $ 7,000 today Posted: 11 Mar 2018 06:51 AM PDT As you all know, John McAfee bet that bitcoin would be $1 Million by the end of 2020. If it were an asset rising steadily with a fixed percentage, it would only be $ 7,000 today. Despite all the volatility, FUD, we are above that curve. So relax and HODL. [link] [comments]

Coinbase burning bitcoins now? Posted: 11 Mar 2018 06:45 PM PDT Sent myself Bitcoin from Gdax and this was the change address. 1111111111111111111114oLvT2 I've never seen an address like this so I looked into it and it's a burn address known since at least 2013. Does it just make more sense burn these coins? Update: so this seems to be a bech32 address issue. Block explorer not decoding the address properly and displaying that burn address instead.
