Why do people hate miners? [Rant]

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 11:08 PM PST

If I go spend my legal tender at a local Micro Center or Best Buy, I have to pretend like I'm a gamer. Why? The manager at MC told me, "we don't sell cards to miners".

The real crooks are the retailers who charge double for the graphics cards. Why isn't the hate directed at them? Not everyone who mines is rich. Most miners can't afford 50 graphics cards. Also, the people who flip cards are "worse" than the miners.

I sold my car to get started. I'm unemployed and I am disabled. Now I make $500 a month. I'm not trying to get rich. I just need income. To some people, that's not much. After being unemployed for 4 years, it feels like $5,000. When I first lost my job, my family had zero credit card debt. Little by little we maxed out our cards. Then we had to get on food stamps. Mining is a godsend for me. My wife is happy to have money for toiletries, diapers, etc. My wife and I got new glasses. She had been getting headaches because they were old. I had been using broken glasses. I don't have words to describe how nice it is to have new glasses. I'm sorry you gamers have to go without the lastest card, but please don't assume that all miners are greedy people looking to get rich. Some of us desperately needed the passive income.

Think we will see a dump of gpus?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:25 AM PST

Just wondering if anyone else thinks we will start seeing lower prices due to the price of bitcoin. I'm thinking a lot of weak hands will try to unload, driving prices down. I'm hoping to start seeing some good prices, but I'm probably being a little bit optimistic

Linux Nvidia overclocking--what is the equivalent of the "Power Limit" option of MSI afterburner?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:26 AM PST

I know this sounds like an easily google-able question, but I had little luck.

I don't think that there is a direct option for power limit. Am I supposed to like, mess with the voltage? I heard how dangerous that was so I'm sort of afraid to do that without a more professional opinion.

    OS - Lubuntu 17.10
    Card - GTX 1070ti (x1)
    Mobo - MSI H270-A PRO

Added 2nd card to system. Experiencing strange hashrates and temperatures

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:30 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I just added a 2nd RX 580 to my system. I can give more specs on the system and card if necessary but it is just a small hobbyist rig.

Disclaimer: This new card's packaging seemed a bit funny. The plastic on the card itself was ripped in a few places like it might have been used briefly, but it's hard to be sure. The first card is from the same seller and I have not noticed issues.

I installed the card yesterday. Both cards are powered with 8 (6+2) connectors. Hashrate dropped on 1st card immediately after install. Installed my drivers again and 1st card was back to normal.

So, the first card runs at 61C and 27 M/Hs, only by editing MSI afterburner clock speeds. I have not flashed the bios for this card. The 2nd and newer card runs at 22 M/Hs, and was getting very hot while I was watching it, almost 80C. I undervolted the card using afterburner and it is now running at 69C and getting 20 M/Hs. I have not tried investigating the bios of this card either.

Could anyone tell me if there is something wrong with the new card? Should I ask the (reputable) seller for a replacement card?

Thanks in advance. Any advice is appreciated.

    Irregular hashrates on Eth

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:12 AM PST

I have a 5 GPU rig that I have built up on Claymore. Gigabyte H110-D3A with celeron and 8GB dual channel ram on 700w PSU. I have 2 XFX RX 570, 2 Giga Gaming 570 Samsung, 1 Giga Gaming 570 Hynix on 1200w HP PSU. I started with the XFX cards running 29Mh each, grabbed the 2 gigas with samsung memory and was also able to clock them to 27/28. I then received the 5th card and was able to clock it to 30 with total of 146Mh. My problem is after a few reboots to move the rig up on top of a dresser to get it away from little hands, I can't get past 133Mh, my cards keep running hotter and drawing more power. It's like the BIOS reverted but everything looks good. I have reloaded windows 10 and drivers. Not sure what I could be missing. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

    Mining on a Alienware 2x NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB GDDR5X .......

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 02:48 AM PST

I posted this initially on Ether Mining and they sent me here :)

Greeting everyone, I hope I'm not going to annoy you with my silly questions...

First of all I am a complete noob (reading everything I can about it) when it comes to mining, I managed to get my hands on an Alienware PC with 2x NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB GDDR5X with a 850W EPA Liquid Coled Chassis, w/ODD.

I did not necessarily buy it for mining but would like to try it.

I paid a very good price for the PC a bit more than what 2x GeForce 1080ti would cost here in the UK if you manage to get one in stock that is.....I got it on a 12 month 0% interest rate.( Initially I wanted to build my own rig with 2 x 1080ti but the price here in the UK is just ridiculous at the moment and my SO would not appreciate the aesthetics of an open mining rig in the flat.... so it had to be something discrete.

I'm not delusional thinking that I'd be able to quit my job and live of it (I'm quite lucky that I love my job and don't do it for the money).

But I would like to have a go at mining as I find the concept absolutely fascinating(I have high hopes that this is the beginning of a universal income for the world where every household would own a computer/rig that would manage to produce a basic income enough to live on ) to learn about it and maybe who knows in the future I'll be able to build a proper/profitable mining rig.

I have my eye on Zclassic mining considering the upcoming Bitcoin Private fork (a gamble I know, but I find all this exciting and very interesting and I'm in desperate need of a hobby)......

Any advice would be more then welcome, does anyone use a 2x1080Ti for mining ? What do you mine with it, how is it working ....even just tell me your what your set-up is......anything I should be aware of, tweaks ....etc..

    Edited to include post.

A bit more about this I started to look into building my own rig and first I figured out that the most future proof GPU(that is affordable) to invest in is the 1080Ti so I was set on building a rig on that.

But as soon as I started looking for the cards to buy they are nowhere in stock and where they have stock they cost about 800£ to 900£ that's around 1800£ just for the cards.

So somehow I ended up on the Dell Alienware UK website and got this build for 2393£ on a 12 month 0% interest rate(199£/month), In the future I guess I could rip it's guts out and use the components for an upgraded mining rig with more GPU's(or re-sell it as it's going to probably be easier to re-sell a Gaming PC that a Mining Rig)....

    Surge protector a little warm

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:33 AM PST

I'm mining on my workstation - not a 6 gpu rig or anything. It's a Threadripper 1950x with a 1080 ti and a 1080. I don't have a kill-a-watt, but I estimate it is probably pulling 750-800W. I have the system plugged into a surge protector and I have just noticed that the surge protector itself (not the plugs or cables) is just a little bit warm, not hot, just a bit above ambient. I can't find a definitive answer whether it's safe to run a fairly heavy load on these things 24/7 or whether it's normal for them to get a bit warm. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

    1070ti configuration

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:59 AM PST

I have one card humming along. It is an EVGA card with hynix memory. I am using xpec from evga to overlock and have it on 70% power, 130+core and, 650+ memory. Seems to be stable with temperatures around 66. Do I have the optimal settings for this card? I pay for electricity.

Gigabyte RX 570 4gb strange behavior

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:49 AM PST

I am getting only 15 mh/s eth with new RX570 4gb, everything stock, blockchain driver, claymore 10.6, win 10, on miningpoolhub Ethereum pool? The strange thing is that I get 22 mh/s when running same claymore with -benchmark 167 ? I have 1060 6gb, also stock everything, on the same machine that is giving me around 20 mh/s eth, so as is expected from stock card. Also, nvidia has pretty much the same result on benchmark as on real workload (also on miningpoolhub Ethereum pool). Can it be that something is wrong with the RX570 card, or I made some stupid mistake in setting it up that can cause such low hashrate ? Other interesting thing is that on nicehash I get even lower hashrate on eth, under 12 mh/s. I have tried last adrenalin drivers, does not help, I have DDUd and clean installed blockchain drivers ... next step is to reinstall windows :( When looking at GPU-Z I can see that GPU core clock is constantly under 900 Mhz (card default clock is 1244), although I did not do any tweaking of clock in AB or drivers. When running benchmark clock goes above 1100 Mhz for most of the time.

Any help would be appreciated, I would not go into BIOS modding etc. if I will have to return the card.

    A 1070ti for $600+ LOL

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:27 AM PST

I feel bad for you son if you paid that much. It's making $1.90 right now. Hope the market turns up because if it doesn't the difficulty still is.

How long that 1070ti gonna take to pay off?

Oh but you know this "special alt coin" thats going to jump up and double your money. Then I bet someones beat you to it with Nicehash! The rest of us plebs who don't speculatively mine, we have to sit on the $1.90 coin.

    Nist5 Bulwark earnings disappear

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:24 AM PST

I was closely monitoring my wallet page on zpool.ca, where I do see Bulwark earnings constantly coming in for a good 30 minutes.

However, it all suddenly disappeared, and my Total Earned amount went down too. All Bulwark coins are gone, leaving those Ninja earnings which is 0.00 mBTC.

    Any idea why?

    Changing ssd on mining rig

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:23 AM PST

So, my mining rig runs at this point on Linux with Ethos. And I want to install on a new ssd Windows 10 so I can mine altcoins with more ease and still leave the Linux ssd so when I want to return to ETH mining, I can just switch it. From my hardware knowledge, it shouldn't affect my rig, right? But what about the GPUs? Do I have to OC them again on Windows too? Sorry if these are stupid questions, new to mining. Thanks!

    Mining the dip

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:22 AM PST

Lots of good opportunities out there to mine some coins cheap right now. I am thinking of taking a break mining zcash with my nvidia rigs and mining some ZCL for the next month to take advantage of the bitcoin private fork.

Anyone else switched coins lately? I know HUSH was quite profitable with nvidia cards for a while. I was going to spend some time today looking for newer coins to mine as well. I like putting a little bit of my resources towards small speculative coins and stashing them away.

    Help diagnose GPU crash

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:32 AM PST

Hi, I have a mixed rig and I need help finding the problem. The main problem is: If I do no overclock, it stays stable, if I overclock ANY nvidia card by any amount it crashes randomly.

I took every gpu out of the rig and connected to my PC for testing, and individually they can be overclocked without any problems. Why they crash on the rig?

    Here are the specs:

    Mobo: ASROCK FATAL1TY B250 gaming k4 on Auto(Will test Gen1)

    Ram: 4gb

    Cpu: i3-7100

    PSU: 4GPU on 1000w + 2GPU,MOBA,CPU on 750w

    GPUs: (2x) ASUS GTX 1070 + (1x) GYGABYTE GTX 1070 + (2x) PC RX 580 + (1x) PC R9 380

Risers: 6pin - sata (one connection per card)

    Drivers: Nvidia whql 390.65

OS: Windows 10 with Latest update

Overclock: MSI Afterburner with very low OC ( 30/100 - even less )

ps.: all nvidia gpus are running on p0 state both on rig and PC

    Thank you for the support!

MB H110-D3A doesnt boot with gpus

    Seasonic Focus Plus 850 Gold

    risers - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075D9WC3M

when i unplug all gpus then my system boots up just fine with vga cable from integrated graphic from cpu. When i plug all or even one GPU to pcie slots it wont boot up - nothing, just black screen on monitor.

I am pretty much at my end, i dont know what to do anymore... GPUs are working i tried them...

What i didnt do is flashing bios, but i somehow dont think that is the issue.. here is a picture of my rig https://imgur.com/qcfH2pv (on picture not all gpus are plugged to psu i know)

I would appreciate any help. Thanks a lot.

Trouble booting up on ethOS after bios

    Posted: 05 Feb 2018 12:01 AM PST

    Hey guys,

So I'm running 7x Msi rx580 Gaming 8gb on an Asus Z270P mobo. I started up the rig, & got all 7 to work normally & all. 5 were Samsung memory, 1 was Hynix & q1 was "unknown"

My problem occurred when I flashed all of my gpu's. After I flashed all the cards, the system would pull up to an error screen & constantly flash. I unplugged all of the Gpu's one a time & unflashed to figure out what the problem was. The "unknown" memory GPU was completely weird, the monitor had disoriented writing, but I managed to unflash successfully.

After unflashing all the cards except 1, I replugged them all in & it was back to normal & everything. I tried flashing a 2nd Gpu, but when I plug the 2 flashed ones, it would not start up again.

How do I get my system to read more than 1 bios modded card? Or is there something I'm over looking?

TL;dr : Trouble getting system to boot up with more than 1 bios modded card. 7 gpu's work unflashed or 1 gpu modded & 6 flashed. I cannot get the system to start up with more than 1 modded gpu on the system

    System : EthOS Mobo : Asus Z-270P Psu : 2x 850w G3

    Overclocking issue

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 11:15 PM PST

We have this rig running on windows 10 that has 2x Vega Frontier Edition and 2x GTX 1070 and we're having trouble overclocking.

We have AMD OverdriveNTool and msi afterburner. Msi afterburner shows the vega cards blacked out but we still have access to see what's going on (temp and memory).

we've been trying to overclock the 1070 only with msi afterburner but the hashrate dosen't change.. anyone has any ideas?
