    Met a hater irl

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 03:22 AM PST

Not sure if this is ok to post here but I can't stop thinking about how absurd it was.

My wife and I drove a good distance away yesterday and happen to be close to a best buy and decided to stop. Don't usually go but had time to burn. The last time I think I was at a best buy was 2008. Kinda just wanted to see if there would be any gpus in stock(actually looking for a 1080ti for gaming) if not I haven't seen the empty shelves irl so I thought that would be cool. Walked through the store to the back and found some 1030s on a small but still vacant shelf. Employee sees if I need help and I just asked if this was all they had in stock and he explained kindly why they're few choices and they had a couple more up front for gaming. Go upfront and just start looking for them and another one of the many employees asks what I need, I said video cards. He leads me to the shelf, He lifts his arms up and slaps them down on his sides, "FUCKING CRYPTOCURRENCIES!" ʘ__ʘ... Caught me way off guard. He continues but I can barely remember because his sudden rage went off like a flashbang..He face is red, I'm not sure if it was because he just realised he cursed like that or he was genuinely that pissed. "The bubble is going to pop and I can't wait for all of them to go broke.."(something like that, there was more but can't remember) By now I'm cringing hard af. I'm like "yea that sucks welp gotta go".

Has anyone else dealt with crazy shit like this shopping retail stores? I normally have my gear mailed. I probably should've schooled him or told a supervisor but I just wanted to gtfo.

Will GPU mining be more profitable anytime or will it decrease more?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 04:39 AM PST

Since January my rigs are making less and less every day, it is barely enough to keep them up running. will this be better at some time or can you say it will just get worse over time?

8pin to two 6+2 Splitter question

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 07:42 AM PST

Is the consensus they are to be avoided at any cost, or just a terrible thing in the hands of a person who thinks you can magically turn 150 watts into 300 watts?

I was trying to add 2 more cards to a rig in the M.2 slots, and had bought these in hopes of being able to use the cables as an "extension cable" to utilize my rig PSUs currently un-used 8pins that are too short to plug into anything at the moment (as in my PSUs have those dual 8pin cables so one is in use and the other is dangling freely since it's too short to reach anything else).

I only planned to plug one 6pin from the splitter into a riser (so a 6+2 and 2 pin would dangle freely), so in the end I'd only be turning an 8pin into one 6pin, and therefore not overdrawing anything... So just wanna hear that outside confirmation I'm not about to torch the house ha.

    Thanks for any reply.

    GPU mining usage

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 06:36 AM PST

I sure hope the video card makers turn this from subjective to definitive. Some sort of hours / history / odometer baked into the silicon. But not just time, also load. Some sort of integral or summing calculation. Then reasonable thresholds to deter heavy miners vs gamers. It could only help their warranty dept as well as the used card market adding a level of predictability vs uncertainty to their market.

I wonder if they already do this, but just keep it secret. Any wireshark or jtag (or whatever the acronym is for the behind-the-curtain stuff of video cards) experts out there?

    Smart plug for 240v

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 10:26 PM PST

I have a 240v outlet 20amps that I'm planning to power my 9 gtx 2080tis with 2x 1300 seasonic PSUs connected with add2psu. I want to remote start without buying a switched PDU( expensive!)

Can someone recommend smart plugs? I saw the amazon ones that say 110-240 v Also saw some people saying wemo insight work on 240v I can't build relays and create smart plugs I want easy solution , I'm think that I'll plug each PSU in a separate smart plug and both plugs would be on a basic 240v PDU. So each plug running 240v will only is around 6A from each PSU separately.

Also recommend a 240v extension cord from the 240 outlet to the PDU plug.

    Thanks a lot!

Rug won't start when a card is connected to the main PCI slot.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 03:53 AM PST

I have an Asrock H81 mobo with 6 PCI slots. It was running just fine for a couple of days and then it shut down. After extensive testing I found out that when I plug in a card in the main PCI slot it won't start. Just spins the fans with no video output.

I tried changing the card order, all of them are 100% working. I also tried reinstalling the drivers, reseting CMOS, connecting some cards to another PSU but had no luck.

Could it be that the slot is dead? Did anyone had similar issues and how did you bypass this?

    Any info is welcome. Thanks!

    Mining will damage GPU?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 03:33 AM PST

People are talking about mining will damage GPU, after few month's' mining the GPU will became unstable and even burned. So is it true? What will happen when the GPU became unstable? When you'll consider to replace your GPU?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 02:28 AM PST

I've tried several different driver versions, I've tried running the drivers from graphics to computer and that raises it from 12 to 15, but then when I OC the memory it doesn't go .1 hash past that. Its running on a H81 Pro v2 running WIn10 build 1705. Im banging my head, what am I doing wrong?

    1 1080 ti vs 2 1070s?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 01:48 AM PST

This is the deal, i am building a rig, i bought 5 1070s already and I have one 1080 ti oc 11gb on my personal computer that i want to put to work, the question is: should i trade my 1080 ti for 2 1070s? The only offer i have is my used 1080 ti and 300$ CAD for his brand new 2 1070s. Would you do this deal? How much cash would you offer if any? I will be powering this with a 1200w psu, i don't know if that matters. Also i will be using nicehash for mining.

    GPU - No signal detected

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 01:23 AM PST

Have been mining with a single 1060 for some months. However, this morning my monitor says 'No signal detected'. GPU is powered and fans running. Where should I start troubleshooting?

I am using a DVI to HDMI cable currently. Does it make sense to try a DVI to DVI instead?

The monitor detects when I remove the cable, I take that as the monitor is ok? Is that a correct assumption?

Issues getting all cards to function

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 12:45 AM PST

    I'll start with my equipment

    • GPU: 1080Ti=2xPNY, 1080=2xEVGA, 1xMSI, 1xZotac
    • mobo: MSI Gaming 5
    • PSU: several ATX, more than enough wattage
    • OS: Windows 10 (not currently activated)
    • risers: these risers. One has been defective so far
    • mining software: Nicehash Miner
    • overclocking specs: 65%/+125/+500
    • Other software: Afterburner, Teamviewer

I had setup this rig initially with the 1080Ti's, the Zotac 1080 and then one EVGA 1080. Today I added a second EVGA 1080 and an MSI 1080. At first only 5 devices would display in the device manager but I was able to narrow the issue down to the riser on the new MSI card not functioning (despite the status LED being on) so I swapped it out and then all 6 cards were registering.

Next I restarted the PC and installed the latest graphics drivers(390.77 I think) but afterwards, only 3 cards would register. Upon starting the NH miner, a box would pop up stating none of my cards were functioning, but then the original 1080Ti's would start to mine as well as the MSI(newest card to be added)

All previous cards are still in their original PCI slots and this mobo (per specs) should have all lanes open, and you should be able to hook up m.2 adapters for 2 more lanes although I might just put a riser extender into a pci slot so I can have 4 cards in one lane

I'm trying to figure out where I'm going wrong getting these cards installed. I've verified that each card does in fact work as well as the risers and cables they're plugged into now. They're all getting enough power too. I've tried several driver uninstalls/reinstalls, I've tried the display driver uninstaller etc.

This is my second multi-gpu rig. The first was 8 1070 Ti on the ASUS z270-a Prime before it sold out everywhere. It too just took driver uninstall and reinstalls but the same process doesn't seem to be working on this rig, maybe because of MSI?

4G coding is enabled, tons of virtual memory and all PCIe options are set to Gen 2 FYI

Need help with msi z270a-pro: won't detect more than 2 Nvidia cards

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 11:55 PM PST

So I picked up this board, to run with 3x 1070s I have, and a 1080ti incoming.

I have flashed the mobo with the latest firmware, and the proceeded to follow the instructions on the msi site (https://www.msi.com/blog/Mining_Intel_Motherboard_Go_with_MSI_100_200_Series_Motherboard) to the letter.

However, no matter what I do, I cannot get more than 2 cards recognized at a time.

If I add a third card, either it is not seen, or it will be seen, but ends with a code 43.

Any of the cards combined into a pair mine just fine, but I simply can't get more than 2 working at a time.

I have tried combinations of pci latency settings, pci Gen 1, 2, and 3, 4g decode enabled and disabled, and I am running uefi, win 10 pro 64bit. Also running a ln evga850 g3.

What am I missing, I'm at wits end...
