[META] Mods need to do something about this spam Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:10 PM PST Everyday there is more and more spam promoting the latest shit coin promising the world. "We will disrupt x industry with our new smart contract system". Or even worse is the CryproGame spam. CryptoPornstars, CryptoWars, CryptoDogs, CryptoBattle, wtv they are called are rip offs and shouldnt be on this sub. This sub is turning to garbage and and all the posts are being manipulated to have higher upvotes. Real discussions and questions get two comments, new dapp promising the world gets 100 upvotes. Literally one of the rules on this sub is no ICO advertisments and no misleading titles. Since when is "tZERO cryptomarket will replace the NYSE" NOT misleading? I check the logs and /u/EvanVanNess is doing a create job but /u/heliumcraft approved a post for a casino ad... how does that make any sense. He also approved a post for a ICO ad for NaPoleonX which is directly against sub rules. Why should a casino ad be allowed to be posted? Why are these being passed? This isnt a direct attack on Helium because I can see alot of work goes into preventing this stuff but its getting out of hand. I think there needs to be more mods to control this. Posted: 21 Feb 2018 08:39 PM PST I want to demonstrate the immensity of the number of permutations of a common deck of cards, in order to prove a point in the creation/evolution controversy. To this end, I'm prepared to place in escrow $10,000, payable to the first person to guess the permutation that I hold in secret. The general method that I think would work as the basis of this challenge, would be to create the secret one-time randomly-generated card permutation, and then create and publish a cryptographic hash of it, as represented in a fixed format. In this way, the challenger could generate "guesses", calculate the hash, and compare that hash to my published hash. Only when the two match would it be necessary to submit a proposed solution (and the solution would already be known to be correct).
I think that this may be possible to do, using things like zero-knowledge proofs and cryptocurrency. Ideas? [link] [comments]
Being creative instead of being first, composing music on the Ethereum blockchain Posted: 21 Feb 2018 07:53 AM PST We are excited to announce the new release of Crypto Jingles. Crypto Jingles is the first sound based Ethereum Dapp. The goal of Crypto Jingles is to let users be creative and let them create the best sounding jingle. Created jingles are 100% owned by the users and can be sold and traded on our marketplace. Every jingle is a unique combination of 5 sound samples you choose, nobody can create a jingle that sounds the same. We listened to early users suggestions and implemented new features to make the Dapp easier and more enjoyable to use. Users wanted more control on how individual samples were joined into a jingle. As a result, samples that are being composed now each have 3 new properties: Volume (0% to 100%) Delay (up to 10 seconds) Cuts (use only a part of your sample in the new jingle) Another new feature that we added are likes. We wanted to implement likes in a way in which you don't have to have an account and go through a email sign-up/log-in process. In order to do that, we limited the likes feature only to people who have bought sound samples. That means that each like is tied to an Ethereum address. This will keep like spam low and stop malicious users from promoting their or other users jingles. We are also excited to announce that we will be holding a jingle composing competition. The user who owns the jingle with the most likes one week from now at now at 12 PM (+1 UTC) will win. Compete and be eligible to win exciting prizes! Among already implemented features, we have new exciting and fun features planned for the future. Please feel free to contact us at our . If you want fresh news join us at discord, check out our medium and subreddit and as always, don't forget to jingle. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Feb 2018 10:11 AM PST My goal is to provide a paper wallet that's easier for newbies to use (as compared with MEW) with easy-to-follow instructions and tamper-proofing safeguards. Common applications will be for making attractive gifts of ETH to friends/family, and also for long-term cold storage. Thanks in advance for any and all of your feedback. You can test out the new paper wallet here: http://ethereumpaperwallet.com This is based on the popular tamper-evident "tri-folding" paper wallet design I've been doing for Bitcoin & Litecoin since 2013. The ETH community has been asking me to adapt the design, so here you go! Here's what the wallets look like If you are an ETH and JS expert, I'm offering a (very modest) bug bounty in case you find anything wrong with the new ETH code. Or if you have the right kind of experience, I'd like to hire you to audit the new code, which amounts to about 50 lines of JS. [link] [comments]

Smart contract for landlord security deposits Posted: 21 Feb 2018 12:33 PM PST I have always been frustrated at the power balance between myself and my landlords when it comes to security deposits. You are basically hostage to their demands due to them being the sole posessor of the security deposit. Is there a smart contract that locks up crypto, has a multisig function that can be given to the landlord, tenant, and a third party member; which, gives that person authority to break a dispute between the landlord and the tenant? EIP-867 pull request approved - not dead yet? Posted: 21 Feb 2018 04:45 AM PST The EIP-867 github pull request was approved, but not yet merged. Is there a chance EIP-867 gets implemented? What can we do to prevent it? EIP-867 was discussed at the core dev meeting on 2/9. Here are some of my favorite comments from the github thread
