Where do you find new coins to mine?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:01 AM PST

I know I'm pretty much asking for you to give away your trade secrets. But if anyone is willing to share to help others out feel free.

What are the step you go through to find new coins to mine before it becomes oversaturated? Where is the best place to check out for new coins that are mineable?

I'm looking to start mining more speculative alt coins and hold them for the future. Not worried about profitability at the moment while mining so I'd like to diversify my coin pouch.

Feels Good to be Mining (first rig)

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 10:12 PM PST

Fig rig, please help me choose a riser.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:57 AM PST

After some searching around, I've found that mintcell branded boards are pretty good and a lot of people like the 008 versions. I will be using 6 pin.

These are a couple that I found.

    https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIA7256P88179

I remember reading somewhere that mintcell are suppose to be blue?

These don't appear to be mintcell but has more reviews and are 009.

    https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIA4UB67V2648

Any recommendations? Should I look somewhere else?

    Thanks

    Troubleshooting pci riser.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:43 AM PST

I am trying to get one riser plugged into a pci1x slot however when booting it powers on and I'm able to post into windows dowsing but nothing is detected. I've tried another slot and the same. I even switched out the riser and cables for another but the same again. Stumped now. Any other things to check?

    Thinking about selling my rig

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:15 AM PST

    Hi all,

I have been mining for almost two months now with 6x1070 rig and it is doing pretty well. In following months I'm planning to move to different country which leaves my rig behind and I would need to find a place to keep it somewhere (I have no idea where ATM)

I haven't decided yet what to do but my plan is to sell it in a month or two and invest money into different alt coins.

I'm pretty confident that GPU mining will be hot in '18 but I just can't make strong decision whether I should sell it/invest or try harder to find a place for my rig while I'm away.

I appreciate any suggestion, especially from experienced fellow miners, since I am still young in mining business and I bet there are plenty of facts that I might overlooked.

    2x1080 PSU

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:02 AM PST

Would a 550W 80Plus Gold PSU be good enough to run 2 1080s mining if the power limit was set to 75% on both?

How many of you are using HiveOS?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 08:27 PM PST

    Hey guys,

starting mining with bunch of spare gpus i had, 1080x2,980x1,970 SSCx1 and its been fun experimenting with all the different softwares.

    • NiceHashLegacy
    • NiceHashV2
    • Awesome Miner (shout out /r/crackedsoftware)
    • ccminer (directly)
    • HiveOS

I am really loving HiveOS, easy to set up, easy to set hash watch alerts, has mobile site, free for up to 3 rigs, easy to do OC (i was not a fan of afterburner)

I am not really seeing a downside yet. Whats your experience?

Connecting 6 pin PCIe directly to risers?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:18 AM PST

Using 6x1070ti with the HX1200. So I've been using risers with the 6 pin to SATA adapters. https://cryptomined.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_214&products_id=200&zenid=os0bk13sn378hlq6dp5l59qp73 Is it better to directly connect the 6 pin PCIe from the PSU straight to the riser? (I have spare cables from another PSU) A bit concerned since the main SATA chains (powering 3 risers each) connected to the PSU is hot to the touch. Or would I be ok if each SATA chain only powers 2 risers?

EDIT: Will buy 6 pin PCIe cables to power the risers. Where do I buy them?

How do I make my rig stable?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:28 AM PST

    I am currently using multipoolhub with multipoolminer. I currently have 5 GPU's plugged in. My Sol/s constantely changes from ~2000 Sol/s to ~2500 sol/s to ~2100 sol/s to ~2600 Sol/s etc etc.

I know I setup the BIOS correctly.

I am using these overclock settings that someone suggested since I was having issues finding a good overclock.

    (4 of these) 1070 Ti - 80%/+200(2050)/+700(4400)

    (1 of these) 1080 (non-Ti) - 80%/+170(2125)/+690(5200)

Even when I shut off the overclock and leave it at 100% power, 0 core, 0 mem, it still bounces from 2000 Sol/s to 2300 Sol/s etc..

My question is how do I fix this, and when people say their rig is "stable" how stable is stable?

    Grounding GPU Mining rig

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 03:35 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

So I have a question regarding GPU grounding....

First of all, I've built an aluminium rig and I would like to know whether the Motherboard and PSU should touch this aluminium frame? currently both of them are mounted to the plastic thing so that they don't touch aluminium rig... the reason why Im asking this is that, in last couple of days, when I physically touched my finger to this aluminium rig, the whole system restarted....

Is it just bad luck? (Problems with first rig)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:17 AM PST

So, I have been trying to get a rig going since early November of 2017. And I swear I have the worst luck. I get all of my parts, being Pentium G4400, 2 1070ti, 4 1060 6GB, and I am thrilled when it all gets in.

I start my build and have it all set up. Power button. PC cycled, never posting. I guessed it was a Motherboard problem. I returned Motherboard for a refund to Newegg. After 3 weeks, I got the money back, and bought a new Motherboard. It came in on Friday, and right away I built. Power button. PC starts, no cycling. Yay! But wait! It is on, and idling, but no output to monitor (even with no GPU plugged in using iGPU). UGHHH What could it be? I believe I have bad luck, and it is the CPU (which it has now been over a month so no Amazon return/replacement... Thanks Newegg for taking forever on that mobo refund...)

What would you all suggest I do? I am a bit sad as I just have all of these parts laying around (I actually am using risers off of my gaming rig to run the 1070tis and 1 1060 6gb) and I am losing money every day I do not do something. So what should I do? All advice is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

All the local FS ads claim never used for mining

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 11:28 PM PST

Was browsing Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc and saw quite a few GPU for sales. Some were msrp while others were ripoff prices, i.e. $600 for 1070. All of them claim "only used 1 month, never OC'd or used for mining". In one of the picture, the card was still attached to a riser!

I can believe the part about never OC'd, but how would a person know about mining and yet never tried? I call bs on that lie. It's like a person got arrested and voluntarily said "officer I didn't drink tonight". Now why would you say that when I didn't even ask ...

Wait for Voltas or grab 1080ti's?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:26 AM PST

I may have an opportunity to start my first multi card rig.

I am wondering if any of you have any HONEST advice on whether I should hold out and wait for affordable Volta cards to come out for a better longevity/ROI result in my investment.

Can't really do it with the prices/difficulty rates of the S9's nowadays... Difficult (but possible) to find deals on 1080/1070s...

I'm not interested in hearing from (re this question) anyone trying to sell cards or persuade opinion based on manipulating trends...

    thanks!

    Newbie here!

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:17 AM PST

Hi guys have recently bought https://www.scan.co.uk/products/corsair-carbide-series-air-740-high-airflow-double-chamber-case-steel-window-black-3x140mm-fans-usb-?gclid=CjwKCAiAqbvTBRAPEiwANEkyCCMk1mMhldwK6D3IX48FYG-KBQgqV52rFoD0Z0HGaBsw6B-sWNlXMxoCGlYQAvD_BwE

From scan for the tower and also purchased 3 vega 56, 8gb DDR3 ram, 128 SSD hard drive

Now what would be the best motherboard to accommodate the 3 vega 56 GPU graphic card and the best CPU.(I want to mine monero)

And also could I put more graphic cards in my tower? Or would it make it too hot? Or not enough space?

Primary monitor connection to GPU or Onboard?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:15 AM PST

I have an Asus ROG Strix B250H Gaming motherboard and was encountering problems with the board power cycling (powers on, then turns off, on, off, etc...) when I added 6 GPUs (RX580s). I read some tips online and changed the BIOS settings, one of which was to disable onboard graphics and instead use one of the GPUs. I'm curious why this would have worked and what do you guys usually connect your primary monitor to? It seems I'm loosing about 2 MH/s off the primary GPU running this way.

Components advise for a multi purpose mining and multi-media rig

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 04:36 AM PST

Hi there fellow miners, i am planning my very first dedicated mining rig and i want advise for the components to use excluding the graphic cards , mainly the power supply and the mobo. Tbe rig will also serve as a htpc machine on the living room ( music vua speakers and mivies on a OLED TV) and the components will be hosted inside my old phanteks luxe case. GF wants something that doesn't standout too much so the phanteks case is an ideal solution. Probably with some led light for a backlight effect.

I am considering this asus viii hero board. Not the typical mining board but I also use one for my gaming pc for more than 2 years now without any issues. It can support 3 cards directly on the board with room for 3 more via risers so that is a plus for me. Also the soundcard is really good for the htpc usage, also a plus. Cost around 110 euros brand new here in Greece. Probably paired with a pentium kabylake cpu, 8gb ram and 120gb samsung ssd, plus 1tb hdd for media.

For power supply i am debating between the corsair hx 1200 platinum and the seasonic prime 1200 platinum.

I am getting a bit paranoid for a mobo and a psu with overcurrent protection and i cannot get a straightforward feedback on the matter, however the seasonic psu is rated as the best of the best right now so i am leaning on that.

Will probably host 6 cards, 5 volta gtx 1180 cards ( 3 directly on the boards pcie slots and 3 more modified to be placed on the case chassis with risers) plus my current 1080ti of my gaming pc which will be replaced with a 1180.

What do you guys think of the components? Also suggestions for pcie risers are welcome
