    It wasnt long ago I was making $35 a day.. now im barely pushing $20, using nicehash. Once electricity is factored in... its not that much for the size of investment

    Public Service Announcement--GPU Mining IS NOT a Get Rich Quick Scheme!

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST

    I am amazed at all these "noob" miners who are bragging about "gettin 6 1070 Tis for $800 a piece." As with anything, proper research needs to be done before you invest thousands of dollars into anything. Here are a few points that may be overlooked by a "noob" miner:

    1. GPU MINING IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME
    2. This doesn't even need an explanation, this is just a simple fact.

    3. The money your card produces the day you set it up will be the most it will ever make. I know people will fight me on this because there may be periods that it does really well, but in the big picture 12 - 18 months it will be making (significantly) less than it was the day you set it up.

    4. There are several reasons for that, increases in network difficulty, increases in overall network hashrate, and probably most likely, a lack of new, valuable coins to mine. There is going to come a point when people realize throwing money into a forked BTC chain, or an "insert name here" cookie cutter coin is pointless. The overall number of alt coins will drop along with the available supply of coins to mine on the remaining alts that survive the die off. That combination means that cards making $6-8/day now may only make half or less then. The scary part is "then" may only be months away. Network hashrate will exponentially rise, not only with the incredible influx of new miners but with every next get card produced, they will be faster and more efficient then the last. That means that your 8 card rig doing 280MH ethash at 2000 watts will be competing against an 8 card rig doing 560MH ethash at 1500 watts.

    5. When a recession occurs in the market, most people will not be able to afford to pay the incredible amount of debt you had from setting up your mining rig/s.

    6. This, right now. This no recession, this is a correction and look how people are taking it! The suicide hotline was the top post on Reddit in the Crypto page for how many days! Crypto, especially alts, are GREATLY overvalued. A recession is a BTC value looks like something closer to $5000 or $6000. All markets experience recessions and for the most part, they are healthy and allow the market to grow higher than previous to the recession. The question is how long do you think you could last paying $800, $1200, or even $3000 per card on credit?

    7. You could liken this behavior to someone taking two mortgages out on their house to buy excavating equipment and going to California to dig for gold.

    8. You may find some that no one previously found but you can be damn sure its not going to last long or be that much at all, let alone enough to pay back your two mortgages.

    This principal is the same across all types of investing, never put in more than you can afford to lose. Unfortunately, I cannot imagine that their are 1000's of people out there that can afford to lose $5,10,15,20000 if crypto mining went belly up tomorrow. Now some people may curse me up an down for posting this but people need to hear this. Crypto mining will not get you a Lambo. Getting in at the right time and the right price can provide a nice supplemental income but now is neither the right price or the right time. I'm also sorry to say but the "noob" miners are doing it to themselves, to all of us. Companies will drop their prices real quick if people stopped buying these overpriced cards every time they hit Newegg, Fry's, etc.

    My rig got Pwned

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 05:09 PM PST

    I've been mining BTG for about a month on miningpoolhub using DSTM miner on SMos.

    Earlier today, I noticed my hash rate dropped to zero. I tried reloading and rebooting the miner but it made no difference.

    I figured I would try to change up the mining program. Occasionally BTG is lagging on miningpoolhub so I went for old faithful ETH. This time though I decided to watch the console logs.

    It immediately calls '/root/utils/update_configGet.sh' then it starts going to town on ccminer skunk-krnlx using JSON 2.0 and starts mining on to nanopool port 13333.

    Even if I change my settings to a random string it disregards and goes straight to the nanopool using CCminer.

    I think a bot got in and changed my config somehow. I'm starting my inspection of the logs to see anything fishy.

    Keep a close eye on your rigs and tighten up your Network security to make sure it doesn't happen to you or your other devices!

    6x 1070 Rig - Am I Just Too Late To The Party?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 10:57 PM PST

    I've been researching and planning a 6x 1070 rig for the last month or so, and during this time I've watched my daily profit calculations drop by 15-25%. I have used a combination of www.whattomine.com and NiceHash's profit calculator.

    Can this just be attributed to the cryptocurrency wide drop over the last month, or has the difficulty increased making mining less profitable?

    I feel like I'm doing something wrong. My rig (1060 6 gb) has a rate of 632 MHash/s which estimates show is not anywhere near profitable. Why are people even buying this card if I can't even make a profit?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 08:17 AM PST

    I tried to just check out if I could get a profit by letting it run when I'm at work but these numbers just don't add up like $0.02 per MONTH.

    I need your help!

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 08:12 AM PST

    I'm considering setting up a mining operation in Canada. My family owns a decent amount of of property and we're builders by trade so I could put together the facility at almost no cost.

    Electricity is decently priced in Ontario and the weather is cold for half the year so cooling wouldn't be a huge issue. I'm fairly certain that I could put together about 50k between me and a few friends for equipment.

    What are your thoughts? What would an investment of that amount purchase me and what would be the expected return on investment? Just looking for a ruff idea if this is something I should further pursue and what advice you have from your experience as miners. Thanks in advance!

    AMD drivers keep updating crashing my rig.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 08:11 AM PST

    I have a bit of a Franken rig.

    win10, 1070it,750ti,580,290x.

    my 290x will only stay stable a little underclocked on the blockchain drivers. After about 2-3 hours of running the AMD cards drop to zero and the computer will crash shortly after. After a rebbot, relive 17.30.1029 will be installed along with radeon settings. this is a fresh build with a clean slate. I did not install radeon setting.

    I already went into windows advanced setting and disabled windows from automatically downloading manufactures apps.

    What can I do to stop this madness!

    ZCL Donation Pool

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:40 AM PST

    Anyone else mining the ZCL donation pool? It's purpose is to pay costs associated with getting ZCL and the upcoming Bitcoin Private fork listed on exchanges. Miners are rewarded with 1.25 BTCP for each ZCL mined during this period. I pointed my rig at it, for grins. Not sure if it's the right move, but we'll see. https://fund.zclassic.org

    Mining rig rebooting non-stop - help!

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:26 AM PST

    Builing my second 6 x 570rx mining rig with gigabyte d3a mobo. First rig with exactly same specs is working like a charm for one month straight now.

    The second one, I didnt do anything out of ordinary, everything is brand new, but it keeps rebooting non-stop. No more than 10 minutes mining and it reboots.

    What I already tried/checked:

    • Using stock clocks instead of overclock;
    • Re-checked power connectors;
    • Cleaned and reinstalled drivers;
    • Tried different bioses;
    • Gen2/4g encoding enabled on mobo bios;
    • Goods temps with both gpus and CPU.

    Besides risers problems (i didnt tried because new ones are on their way), what else can I try ???

    Thank you!

    Cloud mining cost - HOLY SHIT!

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 06:09 PM PST

    I thought it was going to be 'slightly' more ... but OMG,

    https://imgur.com/a/KQDJA

    40 MH/second is $1520 for two years.

    Let's say you have TWO AMD480 ... Let's say you overpaid $400 each

    $800 total cost .. $20 a month electricty - $240 a month, $480 over 2 year contract

    $1220 - you get 20 more MH/second, plus you dual mine.

    People seriously buy this for some reason though. Wow .. I'm just amazed right now - I was thinking of spending a few hundred this month because I'm having a problem finding a card ... Not at these prices lol

    Disadvantages of using mining rig as main PC?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 06:36 AM PST

    Won't lie that my mining rig is more pimped up than my actual primary PC. Shitty Intel i7-6700k is starting to show its age with CPU mining, while the new mining machine with Ryzen R7 just flies.

    I want to trade places and send the i7 machine off to mine (it has its own 1080Ti which I used for gaming) while grabbing the Ryzen build with multiple GPUs as my main machine. I work a lot with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign a lot of browser tabs so the extra threads not mining should help.

    Are there any downsides to doing this?

    Almost done the Gtx 1070 mining pc rig. Had to build it in a case to make it discrete in my dorm room and this is how it’s looking so far. Looks like an absolute beast in the cougar panzer max Case.

    EVGA PSUs generally bad for mining?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 05:14 AM PST

    Looks like the second unit of 1200W P2 EVGA PSUs just has an issue. Rig shuts off after some seconds of mining.

    6x1070Ti @ 65% TDP, 790W from the wall. PSU is only several weeks old. Before that another PSU of the same type died with internal shortage (also just several weeks old)

    Anyone else having issues with EVGA PSUs?

    (6 cards shut off after 2-3 seconds of mining, 3 cards shut off after some minutes)

    Is this splitter safe to power 2 risers from??

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 05:12 AM PST

    Multiple daily crashes. No idea what causes it. Tried everything, about to give up mining.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 01:09 AM PST

    Happens with NiceHash Miner Legacy ( a multi-algo program). When I use the normal, regular version, at some point, it just loads something to mine, then hangs there. So I use legacy

    I get multiple reboots a week (got the boot on power on my mobo + auto-mining on NHML)

    See https://imgur.com/a/OvpRS

    Apparently power is interrupted? Things I've tried:

    1) No OC. Stock settings

    2) Eliminated equihash from algos for NH

    3) Tried with and without surge protector

    4) Tried another PSU that was brand new

    5) Reinstalled all drivers

    Temps remain low on all cards and CPU/mobo. No idea why this is going on. Tried everything I could think of or find on the internet, including disabling audio drivers (!).

    Open to all ideas. I guess worst case scenario, I can leave it like that and it will just reboot 10-15 times per day?
