Asus B250 Mining Expert - "Actual" requirements

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:53 AM PST

So I've been having an eye on this mobo as an alternative for ASRock's H110 board, but the Asus seems to have very wonky requirements and weird suggestions which in some builds I've seen is completely false. So I wanted to break it down into a list of questions and see if we all can get a clear consensus of what the actual requirements are. Here it goes:

    1. You can have 13 AMD/Nvidia GPU's but if you want to use all 19 ports you're gonna have to use P106 cards, correct?

    2. Do you need to power all 3 24-pin connectors on the motherboard when you're using all 19 cards?

    3. Do you need to power all 3 Molex connectors by the PCI-e ports?

    4. Do you really need 16-32GB of RAM when using 19 cards?

    5. Is it reasonable to expect that the 13 card BIOS limit will be removed?

And finally, what software updates will it get and what updates is reasonable to expect in the near future? I think many would like to use all 19 ports with their card of choice instead of forcing you to buy 6 P106s if you want to maximise your rig. AFAIK the Windows limitation of 8 GPUs is gone, so the only thing holding back 19 non-mining cards on the board is the BIOS, right? But still, could we expect this limitation to be removed, and is there any other software updates that might change any of the above questions?

Sorry for a long and confusing post, but it's almost like each build contradicts the other when it comes to this board. Hope this thread helps people wanting to buy the board to get some more clarification on it.

    Better software than Awesome Miner?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:43 PM PST

I have been using awesome miner with miningpoolhub. I would like to ask if going with other mining software would improve my hashrate/payout. i.e. nemosminer, multipoolminer. I do profit switching primarily with equihash coins.

using a single GTX 1070 for now. GTX 1070 ti on the way.

Fix problem PSU + CPU + Motherboard

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:55 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I need to fix a problem. Today i have:

1 PSU Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 1200W 1 Motherboard ASRock H110 PRO BTC+ 1 CPU Intel socket 1151 1 Ballistix 4go RAM When I start the power and I want to boot the motherboard (by powering the CPU) we hear a click, like a short circuit and nothing else happens. When I start the power and I boot the motherboard (without powering the CPU) the power starts and the CPU fan but we can hear a click in the power and it restarts constantly. After multiple tests I turn to you for help.

    Thank you in advance.

Desktop mining software that helps track earnings by worker?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:14 AM PST

    Example use case:

My roommates want me to pay the internet, but they'll run their computers to mine for it. I say cool, just run X program with this username and we're golden.

What I want to do, in that example, is track worker1 and worker2 to make sure they're both contributing correctly. Is there software like that?

NiceHash would almost work, but it doesn't provide the historical date, so if worker1 contributed all of the earnings and worker2 did none, there isn't anyway of checking that.

I've thought about using different pools maybe?

Ideally I'd like to have my own software that just let's them press start/stop.

    Thoughts on where to go?

8pin female to 2x 6+2 male pcie safe?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:10 AM PST

Hello, currently running a 4 rx 580 rig dual mining, 750w from wall. I want to add one more gpu to my current rig. I use 2x seasonic 520 bronze psu. From what i read a bronze certified psu rate at 85 percent max efficiency, which means my rig consume about 637.5 watt of electricity (still alot of overhead from 1040 psu), I'm pretty sure i can safely add one more GPU to my current rig. The problem is, the psu only come with 2 pcie 6+2 (4 in total) to power up the vga. Can I safely use a splitter to power up one more gpu? Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Motherboard-Supply-Y-Splitter-Adapter-Sleeved/dp/B0094PBKN8. Thank you in advance!

Will hashrate get affected if I put two rx580 on this mobo?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:43 PM PST

I have a relatively old mobo (gigabyte ga z77x ud3h). It says "crossfire ready" on the mobo so I'm assuming it can support two GPUs. However I'm not sure if hashrate will be affected if I plug in two rx580 due to the mobo's spec:

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8) * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.

    Thanks!

    Adding a GTX970 to my 1080ti rig

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:08 AM PST

So recently i upgraded my 970 to a 1080ti in a rig i primarily use for gaming but that has slowly turned into a focus on mining. I just swapped the cards over and whacked the 970 back in the box. Bit of a stupid question but should i be utilising this 970 rather than sitting it in the box or will the added heat in the tower be detrimental to the health of the cards or profit? If i was to add it back in, when considering cooling, would i want the fans of the 1080 facing the backplate of the 970 or the fans of the 970 facing the backplate of the 1080?

    Many thanks

    Best cheap GPU for mining

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:09 AM PST

Hey there. I am planning to add a cheap and profitable GPU to my rig. I'm thinking about something like R9 280-X-290-X or 380-X. I only have one 1080, i don't think it wouldn't be problem to add AMD GPU with a Riser. I thought about something newer like 1050 Ti but i don't know how it can mine on certain algorithms. So in my country second hand R9 280's are starting at like $140~150 and 1060's are $260. What would you guys suggest me between this price band? ($150-$250)

    PSU with 6 x 8 + 6 pin PCIe power.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:53 AM PST

I'm looking for a PSU to power 6 x 1070 Ti (8 pin connectors) and 6 risers (6 pin connectors). Is there a PSU available with the necessary cables included? I was looking at the EVGA 1300 G2, but it seems only two of the included cables are 8+6 pin. Could i split the other 8 pin cables to 8 + 6?

    Out in the cold.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:26 PM PST

Since its currently 7 degrees here in PA, I was thinking of putting my rig out in the shed to keep everything nice and cool. I'm thinking the power supply and the video cards would be ok, but what about the SSD, or other components. Think they'd be ok or is that just too cold for the components?

atikmdag-patcher returning unusual errors and refusing to patch drivers for rx 480s

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:09 PM PST

Not really sure I understand wtf happened, but I sure know that I have no clue how to fix it at this point.

My rig currently runs Windows 10 with the following:

    • MSI GTX 1060 6gb (x3)

    • Zotac GTX 1070 8gb Mini (x1)

    • EVGA GTX 1070 8gb (x1)

    • Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti 8gb (x1)

    • Powercolor RX 480 8gb (x1)

    • XFX RX 480 8gb RS (x1)

I haven't had any problems (besides the initial setup) for about 4-5 months now, even when adding new cards to the rig. I've modded the bios for the 480s, overclocked, set up everything beautifully and the whole thing has been running fine.

I've been having trouble with sgminer and the 480s always returning HW errors, and I've read elsewhere that it's because I'm not using the "best" or "right" drivers for them (currently: Blockchain drivers).

I ran ran atikmdag-patcher and reverted the patching, used DDU and cleared my AMD drivers, flashed back to the original BIOS, rebooted, installed Catalyst 17.12.2, flashed back my modded BIOS, and now the error is when trying to use atikmdag-patcher (of course, the final step). It prompts if I'd like to patch, and upon clicking Yes it fails and spits out 3 different errors.

    • Error #1: PFXImportCertStore failed: 0x80090024

    • Error #2: CertCreateSelfSignedCertificate failed: 0x80090024

    • Error #3: Failed to sign new driver file.

After searching for "atikmdag-patcher failed" "atikmdag-patcher 80090024" "amd gpu bios patcher failed" and plenty of other related queries returned absolutely nothing, I tried again for "error 0x80090024" and other generic windows related error queries and the ONLY result I have managed to find is that Windows Error 0x80090024 is NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE - "The profile for the user is a temporary profile" which makes absofuckinglutely no sense whatsoever, AND the only other fixes I could find were from some whack ass clickbait websites claiming I needed to download their "windows problem fixer (totallynotavirus.exe)".

I'm at a loss here now. I realize its NYE in like less than 2 hours, but if anybody else that doesn't have anything better to do right now has any advice it would be surely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Safest way to keep GPU going

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:17 AM PST

What are good safe practices to over/underclock, power percentages/etc to mining? I recently purchased 2 gtx 1080ti's to mine and set the power usage to 80%, +150 for clock offset, max 65C temp target, and 100% fans. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I can do to improve? I spent all my food budget for this semester and need my cards to last as long as it can.

Claymore CryptoNight Miner low performance with Vega 56

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:14 AM PST

Hi, I have been running Claymore CryptoNight miner for some time now but I gets quite low performance at my Vega's.

Gets around 1400-1500 MH/s per card. With XMR-STAK I get 1950 MH/s, but I can't run that for another reason.

Anyone knows how to tweak Claymore CryptoNight Miner? There isn't any problems with XMR-STAK as I said so I think the Vega's are tweaked enough.

EDIT Updated to Claymore CryptoNight Miner 11.1 and got better results; 1730 MH/s, better but not satisfied :)

How should I power gpu&risers - two options

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:33 PM PST

Basically, I have two options for a power setup.

1)- Half the VGA cables directly to gpu. The other half, 1 end of VGA directly to gpu, other end 6 to 2x 6+2 split into 2 risers.

2)- split each VGA from 8 to 2x 6+2 and power a gpu and riser with each
