[Megathread] Korean Bans(?) Crypto episode 3 Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:58 PM PST Self explanatory as this saga unfolds, undoubtedly not resolved within a span of a day. Inspection/raid/pleasant visit for multiple exchanges: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20180110000738 http://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1F002B Latest possibility of bill to ban: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20180111000658 Some counter-view: https://twitter.com/iamjosephyoung/status/951300898571018241 https://twitter.com/cryptomanran/status/951313361299542016 If I could make a personal note, if we could please try to reduce some of the hysterics of "next stop $10" or "everything is a fake FUD conspiracy, ATH tomorrow" that'd be great. Having gone through the China-Bans-Bitcoin series, there's the simple fact that nothing we do or post here will change the outcome. Hope for best, prepare for worst, ride the volatility for great profit maybe... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:25 AM PST Hey everyone, for the past couple months I have been working on a project called Coinmunity. Coinmunity is an app that focuses on the growth of crypto communities, which in the market right now, has so much effect in driving price changes. Each day it tracks which coins have the combined highest % of growth in their Twitter and Reddit communities combined.
Today, Coinmunity has now been live for one month, so I thought I would share what patterns I have personally picked out, having worked on the data, and observing the rankings during development and while live.
What I have noticed is that you will see certain coins start to creep up higher and higher into the top 10 or 15 communities consistently before a price increase. The best example is TRX. You can see from this reddit post that I made 27 days ago, that /r/Tron had the top community while it was still at $.01 ( and it continues to consistently be in top 10 even now.) I think most of us can agree TRX has some big issues, but the point is that it's very important to know which coins have the most eyes on them; because when people are watching a coin, they'll usually buy it.
Here are the 20 coins with the most growth in their communities in the last 30 days: #1 TRX - Price Change: +2664.018%, Total Social Change:+3904.851% #2 VEN - Price Change: +709.507%, Total Social Change:+974.497% #3 XVG - Price Change: +2005.76%, Total Social Change:+925.614% #4 ADA - Price Change: +467.414%, Total Social Change:+714.406% #5 FUN - Price Change: +366.608%, Total Social Change:+611.430% #6 REQ - Price Change: +646.897%, Total Social Change:+607.782% #7 BNB - Price Change: +546.153%, Total Social Change:+ 558.920% #8 SUB - Price Change: +619.376%, Total Social Change:+501.659% #9 XLM - Price Change: +249.216%, Total Social Change:+501.642% #10 ARN - Price Change: +1020.204%, Total Social Change:+469.129% #11 ENG - Price Change: +1162.809%, Total Social Change:+427.344% #12 MANA - Price Change: +236.856%, Total Social Change:+393.404% #13 XRP - Price Change: +812.067%, Total Social Change:+389.193% #14 ETN - Price Change: +60.470%, Total Social Change:+366.755% #15 QSP - Price Change: +518.553%, Total Social Change:+346.401% #16 SALT - Price Change: +76.836%, Total Social Change:+331.701% #17 AST Price Change: +561.384%, Total Social Change:+272.433% #18 THC - Price Change: +711.952%, Total Social Change:+265.797% #19 NULS - Price Change: +587.179%, Total Social Change:+234.036% #20 QASH - Price Change: +104.2105%, Total Social Change:+208.4238% *Total social change => reddit and twitter growth
It probably wouldn't be the best decision to buy a coin based off just community growth, so Coinmunity pulls each coin's full subreddit to make it easy to quickly research the coin and see if there is any upcoming big news.
Some upcoming features that we think will add value:
If you have an android, the app is currently in development, but I have made a mobile friendly web app that is available at https://coinmunity.co! I will announce on the Coinmunity twitter when it is completed.
As Coinmunity continues to grow, I will start to collect more and more data on social activity surrounding these coins, such as retweets, comments, upvotes, etc. One relationship that I am looking forward to explore is the amount of exchanges a coin is available on vs social growth vs price growth. I think there is a sweet-spot before a coin is widely enough available to experience huge price jumps, where it would be the best time to buy a coin. If this is something you guys are interested in please let me know and I will continue to post each month about further discoveries from the data!
Links all in one place: ITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coinmunity-bitcoin-altcoin-app/id1322869245?mt=8 WEB APP: https://coinmunity.co TWITTER (will announce android release on here) https://twitter.com/coinmunityapp EMAIL: coinmunityapp@gmail.com [link] [comments] |
Here's what's going on in South Korea concerning the Cryptocurrency Market: Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:58 PM PST The Ministry of Justice here raided exchange to find any tax irregularities and also made a press release saying they are recommending the government ban cryptocurrency exchanges because they consider it gambling. They already tried a less stringent recommendation before, but the Korean Parliament voted it down because of constituent pressure. The reason the Ministry of Justice is doing this again is because so much capital is fleeing the Korean stock market and entering cryptocurrency. When Moon Jai-In became president, there was a lot of expectation for the Kospi and Kosdaq to do well even though he is what Koreans would consider a left wing politician. What they did not expect was the atomic bomb of crypto to explode among the youth and wealthy here. The politicians are getting very confusing signals from the public in how to deal with this because the public is very divided on this issue. The crypto market here is 70% made up of 20-30 year olds who believe this is the future. The very wealthy are seeing unbelievable gains even though they have strong ties to the real estate and stock market. Many others see this as a way of gambling and something that must be banned. All this diverging public outcry is leading to the elections this summer... In a couple of months, there will be local elections and suddenly politicians find themselves having to take a stance in what is becoming the biggest social, economic issue Korea has faced in a long time. What makes this extremely interesting is that the pressure they feel from the wealthy families here who own the Korean companies is that even though their stocks are suffering, their crypto holdings are far outpacing those losses. Plus the majority of the young vote in Korea is very pro crypto, so they are not sure what stance to take. If I had to make an educated guess what do I think will happen? They can try to slow it down, but they will have to accept its reality. Right now there is a ban on people making new accounts on the exchanges that is suppose to be lifted at the end of January, but they may try to extend this ban. Eventually they will lift it because the anger from denying the public access to this market will only grow endangering the politicians' careers who are supporting these types of bans. They cannot stop crypto in Korea. It is an overwhelming wave they cannot shore up. [link] [comments] |
Warning: I wired over $100k to Bittrex and they still have not credited it after a month. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:28 PM PST No idea what's going on at Bittrex but I wired over $100k to them a month ago and they still haven't credited it. I even did a bank trace and the bank confirmed they received the funds. They barely respond to my tickets and keep going around in circles asking for details which have already been provided. I am usually very patient but $100k is a lot of money to me and Bittrex are acting very suspicious with their responses. If anyone from Bittrex is reading please DM me. [link] [comments] |

Just made a BTC transaction FASTER than ETH transaction. Posted: 11 Jan 2018 09:31 AM PST Hello, I just bought some BTC and ETH from Bitstamp and sent both to my blockchain.info wallet. My BTC was credited in less than 2 minutes, but my ETH is still processing (more than 30minutes already). Why are BTC transactions so fast in Bitstamp? Segwit? I was really impressed. I know ETH network is congested, but even so its taking too long. [link] [comments] |

still waiting for GDAX withdrawal limit increase Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:41 AM PST I requested to increase the ridiculously low GDAX withdrawal limit of $10k on January 2nd, 2018 (I've been a customer since 2013). I still haven't received a reply...anyone else have the same problem? [link] [comments] |
Possible major flaw in Coinbase Cost Basis for Taxes(BETA) Report Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:07 AM PST It looks like coinbase has rolled out their(new?) Cost Basis for Taxes report in their Tools tab. But one thing I did notice after downloading and viewing the report is they are somehow counting transfers to and from GDAX as Gains/Loses. This is just the transfer to GDAX not any sort of buying/selling. Has anyone else taken a look at this and noticed this? Am I reading the data incorrectly? Definitely possible. My data looks significantly inflated because of this, if this is what's going to be sent to the IRS a lot of people could possibly be on the hook for more than they should. [link] [comments] |
Likelihood of Korea banning crypto trading? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:29 PM PST Ok .. what is really happening in Korea? That likely or just FUD? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2018 12:59 PM PST As a new guy to the Bitcoin world, I am finding lately I am unable to move what little bitcoin I have due to miners fee's. I was going to send my small amount of $200 from my Exodus wallet but the fee was going to be almost $50! I tried thru Blockchain.info and it wouldn't even let me put in the amount I had in my wallet minus the fee on the bottom, it had a separate btc number and it was another $46 fee to move it! I looked at shapeshifting and it was a $55 to shapeshift into most other coins. How do I get around all of these fees? [link] [comments] |
Bestrate.org - new way to trade Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:01 AM PST Found this project, and it seemed really cool to me. For newcomers, I think, it's the top. For to get into all the trading tricks (and master tricks of the trade) you need some time. Did anyone use it? What do you think about monitoring aggregators? [link] [comments] |
Cryptopia Now Allowing New User Registrations!!!!!!!! Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:53 AM PST I've been waiting very impatiently for this. I had the URL bookmarked and checked every day for a while now. Just now it finally worked. Enjoy! [link] [comments] |
Accurately calculating Bitstamp's fee via the API? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:08 PM PST |
Can Canadian residents withdraw USD into a Canadian Bank that provides USD Bank accounts? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:50 PM PST For example: Bitfinex USD withdrawal > into USD Bank Account provided by a Canadian Bank > Money is cleared > Information is available for tax purposes. Some banks in Canada provide bank accounts for USD. Will this work? Or will I bump into issues because Banks in Canada don't like clients that deal with bitcoin/cryptocurrencies. So how would that work with the transfers being received in the bank account when they see company names such as "Bitfinex" or anything with "Bit..." or "Crypto..." or "Coin..."? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:33 PM PST Hey, I need help getting my selling strategy in order. I bought an apartment, an unfortunately I need to dig in my BTC reserves to do the transaction. I need X amount of cash available on Monday 26. of March and average sale over the last x days seems to me like the most sensible option. Any other suggestions? Open for everything, like sell a certain % each time the price goes above the past Xdays floating average. And ofc selling everything just in time to get the cash to my bank account. Come on sensible guys, I need YOUR help. Thanks [link] [comments] |
