#1 this community should stop doing to newcommers ASAP!

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 09:08 PM PST

    Hi all,

As some of you I was early in following this sub at sub 10.000 subscribers of r/ripple.

Over the past year I found many of us very helpful in explaining to and helping out newcomers.

However, in recent weeks, as our community has grown significantly, we get flooded by newcommers asking simple things such as: which wallet? where to buy? what is ripple vs xrp? Etc.

What I see more often is people reacting to these newb questions with answers such as:

"i am getting sick of these posts. use the search function".

This behavior of newbs on fora is as old as the internet. To think this will ever stop is a foolish thought.

We all want mass adoption since then we all benefit.

I argue that we should be happy with all these newb questions. These people are currently helping us to drive up the price. And for each person asking on this subreddit, there are most likely 10s not asking cause they are afraid to ask newbish questions.

So I argue that in stead of complaining to these people, we should welcome them nicely and help them in the best way possible.

If you hate it so much, please refrain from commenting on these posts at all if you will not contribute any value.

Personally I would love to see the subreddit flood witth these questions as we add more and more subscribers and take XRP to new heigths.

Those that are with me, upvote this so more of the older members will see it too.

To all newcommers, welcome to R/Ripple, enjoy the ride and HODL to 🌝

    Could DAG currencies replace Ripple?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 08:45 PM PST

I'm prepared to get slammed and down-voted for this but it's a legitimate question. I own XRP in my portfolio but I recently also purchased some XRB (Raiblocks) so now I own both.

My thoughts are why would banks not switch from using XRP to XRB if the latter is completely fee-less and also just as fast? Maybe I'm missing something here but I'm seriously concerned now over my XRP investment and whether something could happen like this. Is there something that would keep banks loyal to XRP?

What Can You Do To Support XRP?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 06:08 AM PST

    https://xrphodor.wordpress.com/2017/12/26/what-can-you-do-to-support-xrp/

One thing I've noticed about crypto-currency enthusiasts: They want to help their coin of choice. Whether you're a code tinkerer or a pure business entrepreneur, you can contribute to XRP adoption and promotion. In my latest blog entry, I describe what people are currently doing to help promote XRP and dive into choices you might consider a good fit for your own strengths.

Hope you enjoy the read & please leave any feedback below. I'll do my best to respond to all feedback.

    Thanks, - Hodor

What's my Ripple/USD worth if Ripple goes up and BTC crashes hard?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:41 AM PST

Trying to figure out what my magic number is for a portion of my investments to be enough to get me out of my student loan debt and realized I don't know how to convert Ripple to USD other than through BTC..

So what if I have a chunk of Ripple.. and BTC crashed hard but Ripple is doing well down the road.. how do I withdraw that Ripple into cash if BTC is worth nothing? Or maybe I am really overthinking this and confusing myself...

Currently on Coinbase and Binance (and GDAX).

EDIT: Got my questions answered! XRP -> USD can be done at Bitstamp, Kraken, and cex.io.

Also, I was confused about the thought that if BTC crashed hard but XRP went up, me going from XRP -> BTC -> USD would lose a bunch of value since BTC went down, but /u/BerryInvasion confirmed for me that it wouldn't which is all I needed. Not sure why I overthought it, but thanks all!

    What are Ripple's issues?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 04:55 AM PST

I was looking into buying some XRP and I'm doing some research beforehand. I was reading the posts here talking about the merits of XRP and what problems it solves and I really like the concept. I was just wondering what problems could the coin run against (e.g. Bitcoin's lack of proper scaling and high fees) that would drive the price down. Because as I'm seeing XRP doesn't have those problems but no coin is perfect.

Moving Ripple from Toast Wallet to Ledger Nano S

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 03:47 PM PST

Hi there! Is moving Ripple from Toast App to Ledger Nano as simple as opening the app, press 'send' and use the Ledger Nano S ripple address as the destination?

I've read the 'FAQ' of Toastwallet and Q20 says:

"Can I export a backup from Toast Wallet into a different wallet? Yes, click the account you wish to export then click Secret. Enter your passphrase and copy the Ripple secret for that account. Almost every Ripple wallet in existence allows you to import a Ripple secret."

Not sure what the difference is between exporting a backup VS just sending XRP to a different wallet.

/u/ToastWallet are you able to clarify please? Thank you

What happens to the money gained from selling XRP in escrow?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 12:31 PM PST

So January 1st will be the release of the first 1bn escrow. Let's say some small bank buys 600 million XRP. No one buys anything else for the month so the remaining 400 million XRP goes into another escrow account to be unlocked in month 56.

Now, that 600mil xrp is currently worth around 600mil USD. Who gets that money? Where does it go? Does it go to Ripple the company? If so, how is it used? Is it reinvested into the company or does it buy the employees fancy cars?

    Where does the money go?

    How Secure is Toast Wallet?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 06:26 PM PST

I acknowledge there are plenty of existing posts discussing Toast Wallet. However, as a non-developer, how am I supposed to develop comfort around Toast Wallet's security and safety? I understand that it comes well recommended from plenty of credible users in the community, but is the code truly unanimously that foundationally strong?

Its website and advocates boast that its open source code strengthens its security, but I don't see what prevents a group of hackers from utilizing this open source code to access all of the private toast wallets.

I apologize if this sounds naive, but I would truly appreciate honest, informed insight into how safe this wallet actually is.

    Thanks!

    It has been good enough

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 06:47 AM PST

For all of you waiting for the announcement of some magical partnership in the fourth quarter of 2017, I think it is too late and it doesn't really matter.

This is the time to cool down a bit and to ponder things over, not to start or to announce new ventures. Let's celebrate all the good things of the year gone by. And to make our resolutions for next year.

So I do welcome some break and will look forward to the new direction Ripple has taken: not to focus exclusively on the adoption of banks, but to widen the horizon of possibilities and partnerships. I am excited!
