What auto-restart protocols are you using?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 03:47 AM PST

There's a couple of different ways to restart a miner that has crashed automatically, I just wanted to see what methods are used commonly in the mining community since some are more effective/immediate than others. Whether it's on Windows, smOS or whatever, post your solution to this problem!

Edit: Just wanted to clarify that I'm looking for restart protocols when the miner crashes but the system is still running. When the system crashes and reboots you can simply set the miner to start with whatever OS you're using.

Advice for mining rig pieces, especially GPU

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 06:45 AM PST

Building a mining rig. The core parts which I currently plan to buy:

    • Motherboard Asus Z270-P Prime - 128$

I could also go with the MSI Z270-A PRO. They are pretty much the same in price and PCIe slots, but since my local hardware store has the Asus board, thats what I will buy

    • CPU Celeron G3900 - 40$

Is the 16PCIe lanes fine? Alternatively I was thinking of Pentium G4400 or G4560

    • RAM Crucial 1 x 4 GB DDR4 2400MHZ - 52$

    • HDD/SSD Kingston SSDNow UV400 120 GB - 61$

    • PSU Corsair TX-M Series TX750M - 77$

This all depend on how much power the rig will suck - thus which GPU's I will chose, and how many. Alternatively I was looking at the MUCH more expensive Corsair HX Series HX1200 which will support a greater number of GPU's. This would maybe only be relevant if I was buying a motherboard with 10 PCIe slots.

    • GPU ASUS DUAL-GTX1060-O3G (3 GB) - 240$ (each)

My thoughts was to buy as many 1060's as my budget allowed and then use NiceHash for Zcash mining. Alternatively I was looking into buying AMD RX 570 4GB and then mining Ethereum. Thing is that Zcash is more profitable right now by my calculations, however I am worried I will be locked down on my Nvidia GPU's unable to mine Ethereum. I was also thinking of buying the 1070 (1060 is just more MH/s pr. $ spent) or 580 (again 570 better pr $).

So in general my thoughts are: Nvidia vs AMD long term. PSU: Cheap PSU for few cards, or expensive for expandability.

How to reduce power consumption on RX 570s?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:50 AM PST

I'm currently using 3 ASUS ROG Strix RX 570 4GBs. Total power usage (from the wall) is around 460-465W.

    My current OC settings are:

-100mV 100% Power Limit 1150 Core Clock 2000 Mem Clock 60% Fan Speed

Should I undervolt it even further? Or should I lower the power limit? Would either of these options be safe to do? Thanks for any help in advance :-)

    New to Mining - 1 PCIE cable to 2x GTX 1060 6GB

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:22 AM PST

Hello guys, i need your input. My mining rig, 2x GTX 1060 6gb Seasonic P-860

I am planning to add 2 additional gtx 1060, but im getting short on pcie power connection on my PSU end. So, is it ok to connect 2 gtx 1060 with only 1 pcie cable (2x 6+2)???

Also, im mining using nicehash, and my MSI Afterburner power limit setting on both my 1060 are set to 50%.

Looking forward to your confirmations. Thank you!

Application zm.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 04:52 AM PST

I'm running MultiPoolMiner with MultiPoolHub and see a bunch of alerts that say "Application zm.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware." I've got Windows Defender disabled in group policy and I just updated the Nvidia drivers last night. Has anyone seen and found a solution to this error?

Any other troubleshooting suggestions will be appreciated.

Has anybody use ShapeShift with success recently?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 04:38 AM PST

It appears ShapeShift is causing problems for a lot of people, the ShapeShift sub is filled with people complaining of lost transactions. ShapeShift have also stated they have a high volume now, both with transactions and support tickets.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/shapeshiftio/

I'm wanting to cash out at the end of the month and don't want to lose my coins! Is there really an issue or just a lot of unlucky people on that sub?

What OC software do you use when running 9 or more graphics cards?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 04:26 AM PST

I have an 8 Nvidia card rig at the moment and it works great with Afterburner. However, if I add another card what OC software works with 9 cards? I used to use ASUS Tweak II software in the past, but it seems really buggy. So I'm wondering what others use.

    Vega+1070ti (same mobo)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:12 AM PST

Has anyone here got much experience with running a Vega card in the same system as a nvidia? I'd somehow convinced myself this wasnt going to be an issue as the guide I'd followed for the vega setup had an nvidia card in use. I've been mining on a single vega for a while and due to not being able to find any more I decided to opt for a Nvidia 1070ti. However when I use MSI Afterburner to undervolt+overclock the 1070ti it starts changing settings on the Vega, things like fan speeds and P state voltages start shifting.

    Whirring sound from GPU fan?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:32 PM PST

I've been mining on and off for about 3 days. After the 1070 card has been running for a while it begins to make a whirring sound. I've checked and there are no wires caught on it. Is my card breaking?

Putting mining rig in a cold cellar?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:53 PM PST

I was wondering if throwing my mining rig in a cold cellar would be a bad call or not. I live in Canada, so my cold cellar can get quite frigid (-10 to -15 Celsius sometimes) and I was debating throwing my rig in there to keep it cool. But I'm concerned with the issue of it being TOO cold in there? Like, could condensation build up? Could that kind of cold be too cold for the rig and cause damage to it?

What server PSU for 12 GPU rig?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:02 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I see a lot of people talking about using Server PSUs as an alternative to the more expensive ATX PSUs. Any idea what you would use for a 12x 180W rig?

At the moment, I have my eye on 3x Corsair RM1000x (1000W) My main limitation is the 6+2 connectors, I need 36 of them. (2 per GPU, 1 per riser)

my new batch of 1060s are all hynix memory (~20% lower eth hashrate than samsung), dump them and hunt for samsung or keep?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:20 AM PST

took a sampling from a new order of 1060s I got and it looks like they're all hynix and thus hitting 15mh/s on eth stock with 18.5mh/s being the absolute max with overclocks. compare to my existing samsung-equipped cards that do 22-23mh/s easily

nobody seems to know how to target cards that are being shipped with samsung ram right now so i'm uncertain whether to dump these or not. the hynix cards are all evga and zotac single fan 1060s that used to ship with samsung. the gigabyte windforce and asus duals that i've gotten recently are samsung but have far less available stock.

open to moving the hynix cards to alts or profit switching (have only run eth in the past) but not sure what the right move is and the window for free returns on the unopened hynix cards is rapidly closing.

What GPU temperature is “exceptional” for mining?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 01:50 PM PST

What is an exceptional temperature for my evga 1080 dual fan? Keep in mind I use winminer which usually mines ZEN and ZCL. So I don't want to undervolt it or make a fan curve super outrageous as well.

My goal is to have the GPU's work for as long as possible without taking more than a 5% loss.

Recommendations for a new GPU mining rig- GTX 1080s or Vega 56?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:19 AM PST

Struggling to decide whether equihash or cryptonight is the more reliable one to mine this coming year, debating a 4x 1080 and a 4x 56 rig to try mining these- been using Antminer S9s thus far and want to try GPU mining too. What do you guys reckon? Thanks

How likely are open air rigs to actually catch fire?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 08:32 PM PST

I was just wondering how likely open air rigs are actually likely to catch fire if you were not at home watching them. I have seen several things on "almost fire" with pictures that show melted or burnt parts but as long as you are using the correct riser connections how likely is it to actually catch fire to your house? I'm assuming if it started smoking and melting pieces on the mother board it would sever/ disconnect the connections once the parts melted and once the connections were no good would the smoking stop before a fire actually erupted? Those of you that leave yours running 24/7 while gone to work or out to eat ever have any problems? Thanks.

Cryptotracker: Keep track off your cryptocurrency

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:17 AM PST

    Hello all,

I've created a excel sheet that allows you to easily keep track off your bitcoin and altcoins.

It was frustrating to keep track off the price of my altcoins and I simply didn't feel like going to coinmarketcap anymore so I created this easy to use sheet.

All data is updated everytime you open the sheet and every hour, the data is from coinmarketcap.com.

It also has EUR/USD conversion this also gets updated.

    Features:

    • The prices of all cryptocurrencies in USD, EUR and BTC.

    • The prices per coin in USD, EUR and BTC

    • The % change for a coin every 24 hours and 7 days.

    • Easily see profit if you bought coins and the % gains if they have increased in price since you bought them.

    • Live Data

    Requires:

Excel (I've used the latest version I'm not sure if it works with older versions)

About to get Intel board server s1200btl and a xeon 1230v2 processor

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:53 PM PST

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but couldn' find the proper reddit about to get this combo so, I want to know if this runs Ubuntu Xenial and what kind of power supply do I need.

I'm planning to use for mining with minergate software and mine XMR.

    What's your opinion?
