How to get the most benefit possible with 1080ti?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 04:45 AM PST

I am currently mining bitcoin gold using the suprnova pool, then I send the bitcoin gold to bittrex, convert it to zcash and then send it to kraken to convert it to € and send it to my bank.

(It would be great to be able to sell bitcoin gold directly to avoid so many commissions, but for now kraken does not accept btg)

I would like to know what yourselves do to get the best possible benefit (I have 740sol/s).

    Regards.

Experimental build: 4 GPU 1 notebook

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 05:43 AM PST

I really don't want to burn anything so i would appreciate any any suggestions while waiting for mini pcie risers. There is a 1st gen i7 laptop laying around. It has 3 mini pcie ports, an expresscard and an on board gt240m. I should be able to run 4 gpus with mpcie risers/ expresscard to pci 1x adapter + riser. I would power the risers and gpus from an external psu.
    Is it doable?
Do I need to connect psu ground to mobo ground? Or is it already done by the riser cable?
How would I power the whole thing? First short psu enable pins then turn on the laptop? Or transistor to laptops power led so they turn on at the same time?
    Am I missing somethig?

    Box fan usage efficiency

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 03:07 AM PST

    • What is your opinion on box fan when it comes to moving air through your mining rig/farm?

I am planing to use box fan to move air through my rig. I just bought one and measure its watt consumption. The fan uses, 60 watt on the lowest setting. Do you think using box fan is more efficient and/or better than using multiple smaller computer fans?

    Thanks.

How much wattage do PCIe risers use?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 06:06 PM PST

What's up guys, I'm in available 6 pin poverty on my psu and was wondering how much wattage I should expect a PCIe riser to use.

Google has general answers to this, but I feel like my situation is somewhat different(I guess).

I have the TB250-BTC Pro, which has molex connectors on the Motherboard to give power to the PCIe slots(sidenote: I have a 2 psu rig, should I use my secondary PSU to give power to these slots to keep the GPUs, PCIe risers, and the molex connections on the same power rail?). Does giving power to these connectors make it so my PCIe risers don't need to draw as much power?

Can I full jank my setup and use 6 pin Y splitters to power multiple risers? Google hasn't given me much help for these questions, appreciate any advice ya'll have regarding it.

edit: Also I'm using 14 AWG cables, which claim they are rated for 250 watts. Not sure if that changes anything

Current max GPU on windows 10? Anyone have experience with 1070ti's? Which brand is the best?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:23 AM PST

So I plan to build my second rig with ASRock h110(13slots). The old windows limit for Nvidia gpu used to be 8, what is the current limit?

Also, if I plan to run 8 to 13 1070ti's on this motherboard, how much ram should I prepare? And how many watt does each 1070ti take, around 140watt per card and also allocate 100w for motherboard?

And does anyone have any information on which 1070ti is better? I don't want the 16pin ones, so MSI is out of the question. I have bought some asus strix, because the 1070 version worked really well for me.

Anyone have experience with the Gigabyte/Asus turbo/EVGA versions?

Windows 10 not always recognizing 7th GPU

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 03:07 PM PST

My Windows 10 rig is not always starting up with the 7th GPU in Device Manager. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

    ==The Rig==

    Mobo: Asus Z270-A

    GPU: 7x nVidia GTX 1080

    HD: 128gb M.2 HardDrive

Updates: BIOS and Windows are up-to-date.

    Windows Version: 10 Home

Connections: All 7x of the GPUs are on risers. One of the GPUs is coming from the other M.2 slot. However, that is not the card or port that is giving me the trouble.

Its worth mentioning, it isn't a particular riser, slot, cable, or card that is giving me trouble. I've tried a variety of combinations, and it seems all of the hardware is good. The last GPU to be plugged in (via riser) is the one that Windows will be picky about. Sometimes it detects it, but 9/10 boots, it will not detect that 7th card.

Motherboard Research: I think I've read every post and watched every youtube video about this particular mobo. That's why I'm posting here today. Have 4G enabled, disabled PCI-E spectrum, disabled onboard audio and graphics. I had all 7x cards working with GEN2 and GEN1 PCIE config at multiple points, so that probably isn't the issue.

I'll toss out a few FeatherCoins to anyone who has previously solved this mystery. Thanks!

Adding 2 last GPU's to my 4x Vega 56 Rig

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 07:45 PM PST

I have a 4x Vega 56 rig that seems to be running pretty well right now on a 1200W PSU and TB250-BTC motherboard. I have 2 pcie slots left to fill on the motherboard and space on the rig.

My original plan was to buy 2 more Vega 56's, but you can't find them anymore. In addition I've heard about bad experiences trying to run 6 of them on my mobo and the 1200W PSU probably would only support up to 5.

Does anyone have any suggestions for filling in the last 2 slots (and the coin to mine)? I'm mining Monero and pulling 730W at the wall. I'd be open to dual mining or adding more hashing power to my Monero mining.

12Ghz VS 11Ghz memory. Is it actually useful?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 10:53 PM PST

Could anyone tell me which GPU is better for mining: EVGA Gtx 1080 ti ftw3 OR EVGA Gtx 1080 ti FTW3 ELITE?

Is the 12Ghz memory on elite cards over 11Ghz is going to help in mining & give better hashrate for memory dependent algos OR is that actually useless in mining?

Which PSU Adapter/Extension should I use for my risers?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 02:54 PM PST

Hey, I'm Currently using the EVGA 1300W G2 Power Supply (Eight 8-Pin Outputs one being used for CPU1), and (Eight 6-Pin Outputs (One being used for SSD, two classified as periph rather than sata outputs)

    I am running six Zotac 1080 Mini's. with six 6-Pin Riser's.

My goal is to power all 6 cards and all 6 risers with my one PSU (EVGA's Calculator said this should be fine, but I wasn't calculating rizer's.)

At first my goal was to use the cord that goes from 8 pin to 6+2 and 6 pin, and use the 6+2 for my gpu, and the 6 for the riser. But unfortunately With where the power input is on my GPU's it will not reach.

Is there an extension cable I can use to go from 6 pin to 6 pin?

If there is Should I use the 6 pin from my 6+2 cords, or go from the back of the PSU.

If I go from the back of the PSU then I will be short one cord, Can I split a 6 pin into two 6 pins?

What brand supplier should I go for to get the cables I need?

    Opinions on my rig?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 08:27 PM PST

Hi guys, was looking to have my old gaming rig mine some cryptos while I was at work and wondering what your opinions are on the hardware. I have a gtx 980, 4790k 4.0 ghz, 1600w platinum power supply and water cooled cpu. Many fans throughout the tower for cooling with positive air pressure. Would it be possible to mine with this? If so, what would the hash be? Best place to start for software? Thanks I advance.

Vega 56 won't hash after bios flash

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 08:22 PM PST

Hey all. Heard good things about flashing a 64 bios to a vega 56 so I tried it and my card wouldn't hash at all in xmr-stack. Flashed it back to the 56 bios and now it won't hash on that either! Really strange because in both cases the card will say it is at 100% usage but the temps won't go nearly as high as they used too so I know it's not doing anything. Anything I can do to fix this?

RX 570 GPU Brands - which to go for, which to avoid?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 01:00 PM PST

I want to get a large amount of 570s. The brands (and models) available to me are

    • ASUS Expedition
    • Gigabyte gaming
    • ASUS STRIX
    • Sapphire Pulse
    • Sapphire Nitro +
    • XFX RS Black edition

Are any of them that you have had positive/negative experiences with? Are some harder to work with in terms of flashing than others? Were any of these generally a pain in the ass? Any experience shared would be appreciated

Is it possible to add a second GPU to my Alienware r5?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 09:42 PM PST

I am completely new to mining and am only doing it as a hobby. I have an Alienware R5 with a GTX 1070. It is getting me about $2-5 a day right now. I was thinking about adding a second GPU, but I don't know if it is as easy as adding a second GPU. My current power supply is only 450 W. Should I look into upgrading it to 850 W? Do I need to worry about anything else? Is even adding a second GPU worth it?

Also from what I have read the Alienware R5 can add a second GPU, but there is not much room in the tower. The GPUs would be right next to each other. Will I have to worry about overheating?

Here is a link to the port specs. http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/alienware-aurora-r5-desktop/alienware-aurora-r5-setupandspecifications/back?guid=guid-d2c1c65c-d774-4c69-adb7-ac7740f1c1d6&lang=en-us

    Thanks!

I was about to order and build a mining rig when...

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 03:22 PM PST

when I did the math. The rig I am thinking about costs about 4k (7 1070TIs, 8GB ram, mb, mining case, fans, etc). It would be able to make about 10K a year in coin at current prices with a break even point of around 6 months, maybe sooner.

However, if I took that 4K, and invested directly into Bitcoin, Litecoin, or any of the other alt coins doing well (heck, separate the investment amongst multiple coins in case one of them fails) the Rate of return is much much higher than what a mining rig can provide.

Heck, using bitconnect (which has much lower returns than just leaving your money in bitcoin) will yield approximately 1% / day on your investment + you are able to reinvest the interest and returned capitol over time. This turns $4000 to over $100,000 in one year. You can't touch it all, but at that point you could simply wait for the investment period to be over and then you take your cash out.

So, why not just invest the $ rather than build a mining rig?

I'm mining on my home computer simply because i already own it and am just paying for power at this point but I have a hard time investing in a mining rig even though it get's the techie side of me really excited to get 7 gpus working off of a single computer. =)

How much hard drive space do I need?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 10:34 AM PST

Currently building a single GPU rig, mainly as a hobby and to learn. Just wondering how much hard drive space I need. This rig will be used solely for mining. Will likely expand to multiple GPU's if things go well. How much hard drive space do I need? Any reason to pick SSD over USB?

I want to use Monero and other cryptocurrency to help support public education, but i dont have the money to get a good machine to mine the coins. What should i do?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 09:14 PM PST

So my friend and i were talking about cryptocurrency mining on our way to class, and thought it might be a good idea to help get some newer equipment for our class. We've been talking about it for a week now, but neither of us have enough money, singularly and combined, to get a machine that mine Monero and other cryptocurrency at a rate that is profitable. What can we do to get the money for it to help out public education?

I need about $600-700 to buy a 1070 and the equipment to run it.
