I am having a hard time understanding why nearly every coin/token I research is a coin and not just a startup company.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 04:26 PM PST

I will use SALT as an example because it seems to be one that people like here.

So as I understand it, SALT will lend money against your SALT holdings. So if you own 10 SALT coins @ $10 each, they will lend you $100.

This is just a secured loan with no interest. There is nothing special or new or unique about this idea. I don't understand why it needs it's own coin or why people think this is ground breaking.

I will give another example in Decentraland. It's a Virtual Reality, Second Life meets Minecraft type game. Great idea. Why does it need a token? Couldn't it just be a video game that accepts an already existing currency?

And another one Syscoin. It is going to be an Amazon competitor (lol). Great, no one has thought of that one, but WAIT! it has its own currency, so it is somehow different. Why does this need its own coin?

And I could do this with nearly every coin I have researched so far outside of the actual currencies. They are all at least just trying to be money, which makes sense.

But hundreds of coins, most just copying existing tech, slapping a coin on the end and getting absolutely enormous funding, for little to no new tech or ideas. This seems so familiar.

I have to be missing something. So hopefully someone can explain this to me. Thanks

Charlie Lee taking SHOTS at 10 Billion Dollar Cardano

I'm suspecting some hostility here. Charlie lee worked years and years for his spot on the market, and this 3 month coin comes out of nowhere and gets a similar evaluation to litecoin.

What do you guys think? A 10 Billion Evaluation does seem a little bit absurd though... especially for a coin that's rarely talked about it. Is Charlie warranted in his tweet?

How I found what coins to invest in despite information overload

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:53 AM PST

If you're new, maybe you've figured out already that there is a lot of data and opinions surfacing the internet. A lot of people appear to be experts. I remember a time when I could still read most, if not all, of the news articles available. Now I can't keep up.

We have information from experts, both for and against cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency itself is not easy to understand. It takes time and research to trust sources or reliable information. The internet is spammed with "The best crypto currency to invest in (now)!" And even harder- not all of these coins are scams! Some are. Some aren't. But, much like the dot com bubble, they are not all likely to sustain.

    Here are my best tips:

    1. Research the market. Coingecko.com is a good source. It ranks coins by the most important data analytics. (More than hype, and more than just market cap/price)

    2. Research the best way to secure your assets. Hacking is very real.

    3. Ideas for step 1

-Find partnerships/similarities to determine probability. Coinbase for instance? Who are they partnered with where Bitcoin is accepted, but say Litecoin/Etherium aren't. Since Coinbase has Bitcoin, Litecoin, Etherium, we have probable cause for the other two working with the same company in the future.

-Learn of upcoming projects. For instance, what are Atomic Swaps? And what coins will have this capacity?

-Get a twitter account. Follow the developers themselves, not just the coin. Some of the developers have maybe 1500 followers and that's all. But maybe the actual coin has 60,000-100,000, say. Follow some of the early investors. I like CryptoHedge, Charlie Lee, Bobby Lee, Jameson Lopp, Coinbase, Etc.

-Print out a list of all the coins and begin highlighting the ones that make you curious. Begin crossing out the ones you're not interested in. Limit your finds to 15 coins or so. Begin researching them. (Again, coingecko.com is great for this.)

-Hold or as we say "hodl" Don't panic sell. If you researched it, you can feel good. Then if you want to buy more, buy more of the coin that may be currently frustrating you (while it's on a dip) Don't chase the coin you don't currently hold while it's up. If you missed it in your research, you missed it.

DISCLOSURE: I'm not a financial advisor. This is my opinion. I'm a holder of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Vertcoin, NEO, Sia and Ripple. Do your own research to make the best decision for you.

ARK - Did you buy the dip?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 05:30 PM PST

ARK is looking ready to pop after a long consolidation period. Volumes have been very low, and it started to look as though the price was going to sink through the floor. As we begin to see some price action over the last couple days, and particularly this evening, I'm looking to get your thoughts on the team's direction, where the project is heading going into 2018, and most importantly, who added to their stack during this long, long dip? How do you feel about your investment? What is your long or short term strategy, and where would you like to take profit? THESE BAGS BE HEAVY

Cardano - Huge crypto manipulation or outstanding technology?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:48 AM PST

    Hello, dear redditors,

As most of you, I myself was surprised by huge price surge of Cardano. I did a bit of research of Cardano a realized there is nothing groundbreaking and above all project is in its infancy and all promised features are "quite" far away. So I was asking why is there this super crazy surge of the price?

First of all, i need to say that I am super confused - if you check coinmarketcap than you see that volume for last 24 hours is about 1 billion. At the same time price surged about 8 billion dollars - it made me think that everything I think about volume might be wrong - but can anyone here clarify how is this even possible?

I have nothing against Cardano and from what I saw its viable project. But there are a lot of projects with similar potential and with much more to show off.

I came to the conclusion that this is actually a huge market manipulation cause I can't see any other way why Cardano is so successful. This means that a lot of people who invested in Cardano lately might lose all the money. I might be wrong but it should be discussed here at least for sake of investors and to get some more info.

Thank you and pls share your thoughts:)

EDIT: According to their roadmap, there are currently only centralized tokens and decentralization will happen during Q2 of 2018. Smart contracts which are the killer feature for Cardano according to their website have no specific information about release date. Check out the roadmap - https://cardanoroadmap.com/

Bittrex uses fake address as HQ.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 06:48 PM PST

Okay so around the beginning of November I made a mistake of transferring funds and contacted Bittrex support for help. To my surprised they responded on the same day and said that I needed to provide info about the transaction. Once responded, I haven't heard back from them for a week. I followed up with them again via email and once again no response for two weeks. While doing some googling, to my surprise Bittrex HQ is said to be in Las Vegas which is where I live! I thought "fuck yeah let me go there in person since I'm not getting any response for almost a month. What do I have to lose?" Right?

I head over to the address but nowhere near the building says Bittrex's name. I walk into the suite that was supposedly Bittrex's address and asked the front desk lady if she knew where Bittrex was. She said "they just use this address but actually operate online via digital office". I was like wtf is a digital office? So she actually gave me a number and an email to contact. I called the number and it says out of service. I contacted the email and no response from it as well. I looked them up on Twitter and found that many people have request tickets for MONTHS but haven't gotten a response back.

It's been almost 2 months now since my ticket was opened and other than the first response on the day I put in the ticket(Idk if it was even a real response or automated message) I haven't got any response or updates back. The whole deal seems a bit sketchy to me and I'm honestly slowly giving up on the idea I can even get my funds back.

What do you guys think about this whole ordeal?

Tldr: went to Bittrex HQ address, their office wasn't actually there. Phone number out of service and email doesn't response. Very sketchy stuff.

This seems like a rather interesting project, but I was wondering if I could get some people's input on it who have known about it or have researched it already before purchasing. I've been seeing this coin being thrown around a lot on twitter recently.

    Thanks!

I have many friend showing me from their mobile this much £ I make. This tells me they are still very much attached to £$. And this is the problem.
