A couple of questions after my first solid week of mining. Posted: 23 Dec 2017 05:39 AM PST Two weeks ago I decided to get into the crypto/mining-scene. Last week I ordered my components along with 2 gtx1070Ti's. I went for the TI's for the following reasons:
Last friday I fired it up mining ethereum. I chose ethereum because while getting informed, ethereum was one of the first mentalities I could fully-ish get behind as a project. started off using ethminer directing it to the ethermine.org-pool. I mined up to the first payout to see how and what. After this great success I downloaded zec-miner and joined the flypool and started mining zcash. Different algo, different OC settings and different resource-usage. Interesting stuff to monitor while learning the big-ass world that seems to be crypto. At this point it's probably safe to say noone will be getting any second-hand GPU's from me and should I want to game till retirement I got to get another card. That being said, there are still some things i'm 'strugling' with. For clarity I'll be deviding these things into different aspects.
I know the 'coins'-questions could be, and they will be, asked in more specific subreddits. But I can imagine your basic miner doesn't specifically needs the plaftorm with the best high-level features and whatnot that a trader needs. I'm just keeping it here to ensure I'm getting a miner's perspective on the matter. Anyway, thanks for the read. Have an excellent day. Edit: I do not understand the Open / Solved Flair. Why does it get instamarked when I created the post? Another Edit: I noticed I wasn't running latest version of zec-miner. Getting latest version solved the functionaly question [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Dec 2017 02:29 AM PST I have just spent the last week excitedly researching gear to build my first rig, and was planning on mining ether, but just started reading about the potential move to Proof of Stake. What is everyone's thoughts on this concept for other coins? I wanna start mining, but doesn't this seem like the beginning of the end for gpu rigs? [link] [comments]
Looking for some help setting up an old amd card Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:13 AM PST I managed to get a 5850 really cheap, and ill run it with basically no costs. I started an old claymore miner(11.1) for equihash algo and I was getting 5 h/s which is extremely low. My question is can I increase the hashrate? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:10 AM PST Newbie here, currently reading the links on the sidebar, figured I will also ask here in the meantime. I have an old pc that is sitting unused right now so thinking of using it as a mining rig. Is it feasible? 1) Motherboard: Gigabyte-z68x-ud3h-b3 2) CPU: I5-2600K 3) Ram: 16GB 4) HDD: SATA (3GB/s) I am going to buy 2 new GPUs (whenever I find them in stock) to start. Confused between AMD or Nvidia. I currently have a R9-280x that I can stick into this for the time being. Is NVIDIA better or AMD? [link] [comments]

Thank you GPU mining community ! Posted: 23 Dec 2017 07:56 AM PST This is what I wake up to with my morning coffee. I came here asking a dozen questions as a green horn and everyone here has been patient and professional with their advice. I now have 2 frames and 1 gaming system creating passive crypto investments. I couldn't of done this without your support! I want to give a special thanks to gravelghost for helping me navaigate some very frustrating configurations I endured with the prime Z270-A! See you all around [link] [comments]
(not joke) Has anybody tried putting a small rig in a mini-fridge? Posted: 23 Dec 2017 07:23 AM PST I know it's a bit of a giggle but I'm truly curious about this. I've been watching a lot of "build your own rig" and "how to get mega-hash rates" videos on YouTube. The subject of heat and thermal problems comes up over and over. Has anybody ever tried putting their rig in a mini-fridge, like those in a hotel, or beer cooler? I know you'd have to figure out how get some cables in and out of the unit without electrocuting yourself or causing a short circuit, and you would have to figure out how eliminate problems from condensation (water) which would be tricky, but I really wonder if it would help with the stability problems and GPU card lifetime reduction problem that come from overclocking. Perhaps it would save you at least from having to use an army of fans running so fast that your ears suffer? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Dec 2017 07:20 AM PST So me and 2 friends are going to build some mining rigs. I am currently in the research phase to get the most optimized build. I have calculated hashing power, ROI etc. for a number of cards and coins. After doing this i looked into risers and connectors. Here is the problem. Some risers I see people using are Molex or 6pin. What do you do if the GPU requires more juice than that? Basically. What is the most optimal way of powering your GPU's? Why is everyone using risers with Molex / Sata? They surely cant handle the throughput of a big GPU. Why not just plug them directly into the PSU? Thanks [link] [comments]
Nicehash showing at the top of whattomine for me - is this real life ? Posted: 23 Dec 2017 06:38 AM PST Hello, Calculating the profit using whattomine for my 6 x RX 570 4gb. Sometimes (a lot of times), nicehash shows at the top. Considering the risk of being robbed by nicehash, what do you guys think about using nicehash now ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Dec 2017 07:19 PM PST Is anyone getting wholesale prices on GPUs? I'm looking at picking up >100 units for a small mining startup. Any thoughts/comments? Kind regards, [link] [comments]
What's your opinion on combining torrenting and VMs in the mining rig? Posted: 23 Dec 2017 04:37 AM PST Most people tech savvy enough to build and run a mining rig probably already have some server running 24/7 anyway. What's your opinion on combining them on the same hardware? [link] [comments]
NemosMiner VS MultiPoolMiner, which one better? Posted: 22 Dec 2017 07:09 PM PST Using bunch of GTX 1070 Ti. It seems that the NemosMiner were specifically tune for NVIDIA. Does it out perform MultiPoolMiner? [link] [comments]
My experience with Vega 64 mining using XMR-STAK and differing worksizes (with results) Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:49 PM PST x-posted from r/moneromining/ With all the digging I've done online, I've yet to come across a thread with some actual results for comparing hashrates when using different work sizes, so I figured tonight is the night. For reference, I am using 4 Vega 64's, with settings taken from http://vega.miningguides.com/ albeit with slightly higher mV settings to try to combat hashrate drop. I'm also using intensity of 2016 on thread 1, and 1800 on thread 2, which is why you will notice that the hash rates in the thread 1 column are higher than the thread 2 column. Since I started mining last week, I have been using worksize 16. No real particular reason for it, I just that I figured that my GPU's were good enough for a higher worksize, but I decided to do some actual testing to see which worksize is best. To start off with, I ran 2 of my GPU's (1&3) on worksize 8, and the other 2 (2&4) on worksize 16. After 15 minutes, these were my results: GPU's 1&3 (worksize 8) 1995 h/s GPU's 2&4 (worksize 16) 1956 h/s. To eliminate variances between the cards, I decided to run another test, this time reversing the order, and using worksize 8 on cards 2 & 4, and worksize 16 on cards 1 & 3. Results: https://imgur.com/a/halk9 GPU's 1&3 (worksize 16): 1974 h/s GPU's 2&4 (worksize 8): 1951 h/s. So far, GPU's 1&3 had a 21 h/s higher hash rate when using worksize 8, but GPU's 2&4 had a 5 h/s lower hashrate when using worksize 8. So nothing definitive so far. Now lets really have some fun, and try worksizes 4, 8, 16, and 32. To start with, we will use the following: GPU1: Worksize 4 GPU2: Worksize 8 GPU3: Worksize 16 GPU4: Worksize 32 This time we got some rather interesting results. GPU1 with worksize 4 1939 h/s GPU2 with worksize 8 1909 h/s (A drop of 48 h/s from the previous test when it was on worksize 8) GPU3 with worksize 16 1972 h/s (same hashrate as previous worksize 16 test) GPU4 with worksize 32 1881 h/s. Some surprising results there, specifically GPU 2 having such a large drop from its previous worksize 8 test. GPU 3 had the same hashrate as the previous time it tested at worksize 16. Now let's reverse the order. GPU1: Worksize 32 GPU2: Worksize 16 GPU3: Worksize 8 GPU4: Worksize 4 GPU1 with worksize 32: 1898 h/s GPU2 with worksize 16: 1966 h/s GPU3 with worksize 8: 1996 h/s GPU4 with worksize 4: 1920 h/s. So far this leaves us with the following averages: GPU's with worksize 32 (2 tests) 1889 h/s GPU's with worksize 16 (all 4 tests) 1966 h/s GPU's with worksize 8 (all 4 tests) 1966 h/s GPU's with worksize 4 (2 tests) 1929.5 h/s One thing I did notice is that GPU3 seemed to consistently outperform the other 3 GPU's. So I decided to run GPU's 1, 2, and 4 at worksize 8, since they seemed to test best with that work size, but put GPU3 at worksize 32, since that worksize tested the lowest amongst all GPUs. So can the best GPU still outperform the other cards with the worst worksize? Let's find out. Ah. Looks like GPU3 was no match for worksize 32, as it only managed 1897 h/s with worksize 32. However, the other 3 GPU's seemed very happy with worksize 8, as they pulled in 1970, 1934, and 1995 h/s respectively. So altogether, here were the totals & averages for each worksize, regardless of which GPU the test was done on: Averages: Worksize 4: 1929.5 h/s Worksize 8: 1966.7 h/s Worksize 16: 1966.3 h/s Worksize 32: 1892 h/s So what does all this mean? Well, from my limited sample size, I can suggest to stay away from worksize 32 for sure, and probably worksize 4 as well. As far as whether to choose worksize 8 or 16? I'd say it doesn't make a huge difference. Worksize 8 had a little more variance with my GPU's, as there was an 87 h/s spread between the high and the lowest result, whereas worksize 16 resulted in just a 26 h/s spread between its high and low. Going forward, I will personally use worksize 8, and hope I get the high results consistently. I hope this post helped some people see some actual results with the differing worksizes. Cant get 3rd gpu to mine zencash, pls help^^ Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:23 AM PST yeah, so my currently setup was win10, ASUS PRIME Z270P and 2x zotac 1060 3gb in the normal pcie 16x slots, everything works great till there, but when adding a 3rd gpu, delete and reinstalling nvidia drivers to actually get it detectetd, when i start ewbf zencash miner i get this log : https://imgur.com/a/iOuFA [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Dec 2017 02:22 AM PST I spent the past few days looking for 8x Vega 56 or 64 in one place. Amazon: not available or $1200+ and limited to one card eBay: mostly used, no 8 cards from the same seller. A bit of a hassle to bid for different cards and hope to get them Newegg: limited to one card and commercial account is not a solution Malabs: requires a lot of verification and bank details and is a hassle Alibaba: contacted some with no reply and dot trust them as eBay or Amazon Help! One more thing, is there a programming magic to make 1080ti hashes the same as Vega for cryptonight? Or is it the HBM2? They are available and would be much easier to get Thanks [link] [comments]
ASRock Z370 Taichi motherboard with 3 GPU's. Will it work? Posted: 22 Dec 2017 11:07 PM PST I want to use this MB for gaming with 2 Nvidia cards in SLI and an extra card in the third slot. With 2 cards in SLI the third slot cannot be used according to the manual due to Nvidia software. But for mining can I just turn off the SLI in the Nvidia software and get access to all 3 slots for mining? That part is not clear. [link] [comments]

Simple, transportable mining frame? Posted: 22 Dec 2017 10:34 PM PST I'm entering what will hopefully be my final semester of college, and I'm looking to take advantage of free electricity until I graduate, so I'm looking to build a rig specifically dedicated to mining crypto. I really need help with a frame. I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive, but that also doesn't require too much modding. I don't have access to power tools, and need something that's transportable via mid-size sedan, since I'll eventually have to bring it home from school. I'm going to start small (2-3 GPUs to begin with, but will look to expand to 8-12 by the time I graduate). Stackability would be nice in case I do expand into multiple rigs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 05:07 PM PST Hello, I bought a power supply and I chose Corsair HX1200i, it has 6x8 pin slot(I know that one is for cpu), but I got only 4 cables for GPUs. It really scares me and I dont want to break the whole power supply. Can I connect 5 cards? Thx Here is screen of his back - https://ctrlv.cz/5D2s [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Dec 2017 06:46 PM PST Hi, im from Germany and I Pay 0.2,€/0,24$ for power. Today I saw, that you get more than 750€ for a used rx Vega and there is my question: is it useful to swap all the Vegas out for some Rx570 or 1060/1070? [link] [comments]
Titan xp, artifact when mining Posted: 22 Dec 2017 06:31 PM PST So, i have asked about this before, but when i mine there seems to appear a random artifact in the middle of my screen. Temps are okay, my hardware is good, drivers are up to date. Any ideas? Someone said to me that i should look up at the intensity im mining with, but i dont know anyhting about that. Also been told to contact the seller about whether i should return the product. The card is 2 months old. Any ideas?? GPU:Titan Xp, EVGA 1070 FTW MOBO: Asus Z270F PSU: EVGA 1000 watt supernova OS:windows Risers: dont have Mining software: Awesome miner OC specs: Factory settings Gpu-z says core 1720Mhz, memory 1377Mhz [link] [comments] |
