[SCAM ALERT] Dubai International Blockchain Summit Is A Scam Posted: 14 Dec 2017 07:17 AM PST I recently was reached out to on LinkedIn by 2 presumably "sales managers" of the Dubai International Blockchain Summit (https://dibs.ae/). I had a 30-minute call with one of them.
I invite you to be cautious when selecting conferences to attend to, and to conduct your due diligence. I did not make any payment, but I can imagine how others could fall in the trap. [link] [comments]
Thank You Vitalik Merry Christmas. Posted: 13 Dec 2017 10:44 PM PST Dear Vitalik, Thank you for all of the hard work by you and your team in the past year. Technical challenges remain but you and your team are equal to the task. Thanks from 1 human to another. You have made a lot of people very happy. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 06:31 AM PST I've been hearing about so called "Eth killers" such as Cardano and EOS. I'm wondering what the community thinks about them. I realize this is the Eth subreddit but I'd like to hear some unbiased opinions on the matter. [link] [comments]
I really hope coinbase is upgrading their servers Posted: 14 Dec 2017 07:24 AM PST I know they're dealing with volatile markets which probably require a lot of processing power, but the whole point of Gdax is to be a semi professional trading platform. Can't make quick moves as a non-robot if the site crawls any time there's serious activity. I like you guys, and I know growth has been huge, but please adapt! If Blizzard adapted in 2006 you guys can do it now. [link] [comments]

Having trouble understanding how Proof of Stake works, can someone clarify? Posted: 14 Dec 2017 12:45 PM PST Proof of Work To start off, I think I have an ok understanding of Proof of Work. Miners use computing power to validate that proposed transactions are valid. They do this by generating random inputs that go into function until it spits out the correct value on the other end, verifying that the transaction is legit. They do this for a group of transactions (a block) and once the entire block is validated, it gets added to the end of the main blockchain and they get currency for their work. That sort of thing makes sense to me because you're doing work to validate the transaction is real, but I'm struggling with Proof of Stake. Proof of Stake Here is how I hear Proof of Stake described: A person called a validator stakes some of their coin into the network. The validator then places a bet on a transaction they think is valid. If that transaction gets added to the blockchain, then they get a reward, a percentage of the transaction fee equivalent to the percentage of their initial stake. If that transaction turns out to be invalid, then they will lose some of their staked coins (I think this part is unique to Ethereum/Casper?). Hopefully I've explained the basic concept correctly. If so, it leaves me with some additional questions. Questions
I know I'm probably butchering these questions, but hopefully they give you some insight into how I'm trying to understand PoS, and maybe someone can explain why that is incorrect. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 11:35 AM PST I was just thinking to myself that Ethereum has doubled in price in a relatively short period of time. Therefore fees in USD terms have doubled (gas price and gas limits held constant but if anything gas price has gone up). If the fees don't come down in ether terms to remain somewhat constant in USD doesn't that threaten to kill off Ethereum usage? Clearly people wouldn't want to spend $20 on simple transactions that used to costs 20 cents. I know that for a change we could be a case of reducing gas prices to compensate, but then miners wouldn't want to pick up the transactions right? Miners work in terms of Ether but people doing things on the network will be likely to want to just hold their ether and not use if every little transaction costs a bunch in USD terms, right? And yes I'm thinking about the cats but not only. Doesn't this fee issue provide downward pressure or at least stabilizing pressure on the price of Ethereum? People want to use the network to do stuff; this increases the price of ehtereum. Ethereum becomes so expensive that network fees are so high in USD terms people think fuck it, I don't need to do that so badly, I'll just save my ether, it's valuable now. Network utilization decreases, demand for ether decreases, price decreases. Am I missing something? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Dec 2017 05:56 AM PST Hi everyone! Remix ( http://remix.ethereum.org ) has just been updated today with some new features:

Bitstamp eth withdrawal question. Posted: 14 Dec 2017 06:22 PM PST So I currently have bought some eth on bitstamp and was going to withdraw it to an exodus wallet. At the withdrawal page i have some warnings that tell me I should not withdraw directly to an ico address and another one that I have to make sure the receiving party supports ethereum transactions generated from smart contracts. Does Exodus support ethereum transactions from smart contracts ? And It is not an ICO address right ? (Im still a mess about what ICO is exactly) Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Dec 2017 12:18 PM PST Let's assume that after tomorrow, the Internet is no longer neutral (at least in the US). 1 How would this affect the Ethereum network in the short term? 2 In the long term could IPFS, whisper, ENS etc be used to fully decentralize the Internet and make any net neutrality bill irrelevant? How did early users of Crypto Kitties hear about it so early? Posted: 14 Dec 2017 03:35 AM PST I would like to be on the ground level (as everyone would) of things like this, however, that's impossible so I'd like to be as close as i can by doing the work. How can you become closer to finding these early? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Dec 2017 06:40 AM PST I have tried everything. It just won't sync and I'm so tired of it. I just want my money of this pos wallet. edit: Thanks to a user below, you can move your ETH from the wallet without having to wait for it to sync. Give him an upvote and point anyone with the same problem to his answer. [link] [comments]

Is there a way we can see how congested the networks are? Posted: 14 Dec 2017 07:07 PM PST Just curious if there's some kind of data visualization site that shows how busy things are with BTC/ETH/etc. (ETC? 🤔) so we can have an idea of how bad the influx of traffic is. [link] [comments]

Dumped the Bigboy for Ethereum Posted: 14 Dec 2017 06:55 PM PST So today I made a drastic decision and dumped BTC for ETH. I'm here for the long run. Before you say I'm crazy, please note that it wasn't a huge amount. [link] [comments] |
