I am really happy this community exists

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 06:10 AM PST

I am someone that is fascinated with crypto currencies and blockchain, but it's hard to find information about the intricacies of the technologies on reddit. The other subs are either full of memes, delusions, and hate for other cryptos.

I like how in this sub there are opinions, articles, and debates about the tech of Ethereum, and very little talk about 'price' of Ether.

I am not a coder or programmer, but I plan in the next few months to try and become more knowledgeable on the potential business applications of Ethereum, and I look forward to using this subreddit as a key source.

    THANK YOU!

We desperately need more --lightserve nodes !!!!!!!

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 07:52 PM PST

Ethereum Wallet has this great feature called sync with ligh client network. This gives you a functional working program (so no webbrowser needed) that can interact with the Ethereum network, while only downloading about 1 GB of data. This is ESSENTIAL for most people on this planet, as they don't have very fancy and expensive hardware. However recently there have been bugs in the latest version of geth leading to a very unstable light mode network. There are not enough peers available to serve everybody and this leads to possible new peers never getting connected, if they would they would be able to help other light mode users. So the light mode network is getting starved. Please developers, fix the bugs that lead to bad connectivity. And users here, you can help by running a Ethereum Wallet in light mode so there will be more light nodes available. Also Parity developers please make a light mode version for your wallet that is compatible so that users from both wallets can get connected to each other.

There is such great opportunity for Ethereum to actually get the user adoption that Bitcoin sold out on. The community is alive, the developers are united, the network is stable, transactions are fast and cheap.

So please fix these bugs and let's get that light mode network working properly it will help people like me that might not currently have the resources to store 20 GB of data but are smart enough they want to interact with the Ethereum network without having to use a webbrowser.

I want to user Ethereum more and more for payments but right now when I go online, I have to leave my laptop connected to the internet for about 20 hours just to get enough connectivity with other light mode peers to download a couple 100 MB of extra block headers. And because of a bug sometimes the lighchain get corrupted and it can take 30 - 40 hours for me to get 1 GB of lightchain data, while if I download something over bittorrent at 500 kb/s it only takes 33 minutes to download 1 GB.

We need more lighserve nodes!!!!!! The demand is currently very very high.

Loopring DEX Protocol v1.0.0 Complete & Upcoming AMA

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 07:35 PM PST

Loopring has just recently announced the completion of the v1.0.0 of their DEX protocol with deployment to mainnet pending on when herding of cryptokitties is completed.

They're well ahead of schedule for releasing their own wallet with built in DEX trading, using the Loopring Protocol, and have plans to launch a beta shortly.

The founder has now offered to do an AMA on the /r/loopringorg subreddit and I'd like to invite everyone to come on over and ask questions. This protocol is going to be the future of decentralized trading.

AMA Thread | Overview of Loopring | Github

Check out the great progress! I've never seen a team working this fast.

    Crypto Kitties impact is overrated

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 02:24 AM PST

I keep reading this FUD that a kitty game broke Ethereum.

According to gas guzzlers, cryptokitties is only responsible for ~6% of the transaction traffic (CK & CK Auction). The Ethereum network processed more non-CK transactions yesterday than it did two days before INCLUDING cryptokitties. Etherdelta is actually a much larger producer of transactions.

It's not kitties breaking Ethereum, it's all the other uses as well. We are becoming a victim of our own success until scaling solutions come live and get used (just look at how slow adoption of something simple as Segwit is).

It already looks like exchanges are unable to keep their wallets functional.

STAY AWAY FROM GATEHUB!! SCAMMERS! Many people losing coins!

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:57 AM PST

I deposited ETH there yesterday. It confirmed and has gone to their hot wallet. It hasn't gone through almost 24hrs later. Others out there have not seen their ETH in 3 DAYS and some longer. There are reports of others losing fiat to this site. The same is happening with BTC. Not only do they have all kinds of bizarre "trustline" requirements, but either you can't fulfill them or even if you do it doesn't fucking help you get your coins. Their support is NON-FUCKING-EXISTENT.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE FUCKING THIEVES WHO REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THESE ISSUES ON TWITTER, THEY ARE PROMPTING PEOPLE TO CONTINUE USING THEIR SITE AS IF THERE ARE NO ISSUES.

    FUCK GATEHUB MAN, FUCKING SCAMMERS

Not to mention they are trying to charge people 0.005BTC or 0.05 BTC to try and move their BTC out of wallet after its there. WHAT THE FUCK? It is literally impossible for some people to get their BTC off the wallet because the fee is considerably more expensive than the amount of BTC they even fucking own.

    Why Ethereum?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 10:29 AM PST

Can I get a short version of why Ethereum is a crypto to get involved with? All I hear about is the kitties thing and how terrible its been for the market. Thanks /r/Ethereum

I have not been able to use Ethereum wallet for over a week now! On my laptop I only have enough space to run in light mode, light mode is BROKEN! Please fix!

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 05:20 PM PST

I can leave my laptop on for an entire night and it still does not fix! There where bugs introduced in to the latest version of Ethereum Wallet and now matter what I do on light mode I can't find enough peers to sync up! I am not the only one --> https://github.com/ethereum/mist/issues/3393#issuecomment-351810072

We need more light mode peers! I am very limited in my hardware and can't afford a bigger hard disk. I don't want to run browser based wallets because my machine is offline most of the time, Ethereum Wallet needs to become more reliable, what if I want to buy something but can't because network is not working good enough because of bugs?
