Posted: 19 Dec 2017 07:07 AM PST Just in a recent discussion I figured out some people might print keys with PRINTERS. They are know to have weak security! Also some save documents for a while. Please do not trust a printer - especially not with important private keys! To generate a paper-wallet it is imho best to generate seed words with some offline computing device and then write them down with a pen - or etch them or whatever - but please think twice before using a printer for this job.. Learning Ethereum Programming? Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:42 PM PST I have experience as a web developer, interested in writing smart contracts, and willing to pay to learn. I've written some basic smart contracts and want to write more robust, secure smart contracts and dapps beyond just the tutorial stuff. How do you tie in web3, metamask, smart contract together? What are the common newbie traps and best practices? What are good places to learn from? Who are the top devs in making smart contracts? Where do I go from here? [link] [comments]

We should push the message that Ether is also P2P-cash (low fees, fast transactions) Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:29 AM PST I just read this section on a CNBC article:
Compare block times for Ethereum (avg 15 secs) to Litecoin (avg 2.5 mins) Compare average tx fee for Ethereum (avg 25 cents pre-cryptokitties) to Litecoin (avg 20 cents pre-recent pump). In recent days both have spiked. Ether seems like better P2P-cash than Litecoin. It would be awesome if Vitalik discussed this more often rather than focusing exclusively on the EVM message. With POS, things will only improve. Conclusion: Ether is great as P2P-cash. [link] [comments]
How does an Ethereum miner know who to connect to initially? Posted: 19 Dec 2017 08:52 AM PST Ethereum is a network of thousands (?) of servers mining transactions, but when you start up a miner, how does that miner know how to connect to the network? Does it have some hard-coded starter address or addresses? If so, that seems like a potential centralization risk (what if those addresses get compromised?) [link] [comments]

The need for a larger adoption of checksummed Ethereum addresses Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:50 AM PST Currently Ethereum addresses only provide a very weak and now widely adopted checksum mechanism based on the capitalization of certain letters in the Address (for more information see EIP-55). After analyzing all Ethereum addresses used up to now one can find over 1700 address pairs with a Levenshtein distance of 1 or 2, meaning that two addresses only differ by 1 or 2 characters. Some examples:
This means that on average 1-2 users per day loose ETH due too mistyping their Ethereum address. As of now most exchanges and wallets already use the checksummed address format but often still allow users to send or withdraw to non-checksummed addresses. Here it would be especially important to make the user aware that he is sending to a non-checksummed address and recommend switching to the checksummed version. As an example MyEtherWallet already warns the user if he tries to send to a non checksummed version. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 08:08 AM PST I'm trying to set up Mist which is the official Ethereum wallet. However I'm getting an issue where the wallet syncs up to 99% and a couple hundred blocks left then just stops. Nothing fixes it. [link] [comments]
Mist transaction 0 of 12 confirmed after 24hours? Why?? Posted: 19 Dec 2017 11:39 AM PST As title says, I sent 0.01 ETH (as a test) from Mist to Binance account, but after 24hrs, it didn't move a sht. I'm selected the option with lowest transaction fee, it said that transaction will be finished in several minutes, but no. Still 0 of 12 confirmed... I would like to hear you experience with these kind of transactions... Here is the link to ether scan: https://etherscan.io/address/0xf39f423ba9b2737d7a26a925c75a950c08b400c0 [link] [comments] |
