BCH2022: An Brilliant New Flipstarter by Marc Falzon!

I would argue that #Bitcoin ($BCH) adoption starts and spreads fastest at the bus stations, tiny shops, and markets. It's where the developing world interacts, and indeed how trade and cultural exchange has worked for centuries. Setting low expectations shows a lack of sincerity.

Flipstarter: Bitcoin Cash for the Freedom Convoy

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 08:48 PM PST

    Flipstarter: https://freedomconvoy.cash/

    Direct donation:

    BCH: bitcoincash:qz2zrkq2uzevpyxjqekfwedy3umzvzczq5zp8vc8v0

    BTC: bc1qw9aas8590yak6utmzks2fa8un65zkhxv4f87p6

    ETH: 0x74F1CA4989b1A63155aD51ec95318Bf188fCD5B1

The Canadian Freedom Convoy is a peaceful protest of truckers and citizens speaking out against vaccine mandates and the government's heavy handed approach to curbing the spread of covid. Many feel these measures have unreasonably infringed upon Canadians' rights as guaranteed in the Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedom.

$10 million was raised through GoFundMe in support of the protesters, the largest amount ever raised on the platform for a Canadian cause.

Today at the request of the government GoFundMe has announced it is refusing to release the funds to the organizers and will instead distribute it to charities of its own choosing. This is a clear case of government and corporate censorship of money.

Bitcoin Cash and Flipstarter provides a censorship resistant way of raising money. No government or corporation can censor, freeze, or confiscate the donations made.

All funds raised will be distributed to Freedom Convoy organizers.

A Little Update on PMv3 and Group CHIPs

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 12:56 PM PST

Had a little brainstorming session with imaginary_username, topics:

For anyone interested, here are the notes: https://gitlab.com/0353F40E/group-tokenization/-/snippets/2247089

TL;DR: we're working on marrying Group with PMv3 and figuring out how to introduce PMv3 features in a backwards-compatible way (meaning not breaking non-node/node-dependent software when updating node software) that would give us the best of both worlds: flexibility of Script and convenience of P2PKH tokens.

It's looking good, lots of potential for May 2023, Group would give us native P2PKH tokens + a "N+1" contract inductive proving tool, taking proofs out of groupID, and PMv3 would give us a "N-1" proving tool taking proofs out of TXID. They could be used independently or they could be used together to create more efficient contracts that'd be easy on the users (send to this P2SH address, get a P2PKH token representing your stake in the contract, etc.)

A short story in using crypto from this side of the world (and why I love BCH more now)

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 12:27 PM PST

So, a friend and I had this experience about 6 hours ago. Sorry in advance for the descent into madness. TL;DR at bottom of this post.

Said friend asked me to help with his first crypto purchase as the vendor he was looking to buy from somewhere in Europe only accepted EUR/GBP fiat, and BTC/ETH/Cardano. He settled on Cardano to pay for, because it turned out to be the cheapest option. I foolishly agreed to walk him through the process. We immediately ran into 3 problems:

    1. We're from Malaysia, so it's not exactly a country where crypto comes cheap (literally a 4:1 exchange rate). Using a credit card would've incurred an additional 8% surcharge for both fiat and crypto payments.

    2. Almost everywhere we looked up didn't allow us to withdraw Cardano, only to trade. We weren't allowed to pay for it even. Thought it was a browser issue, so we tried multiple browsers, same result.

    3. Because of the purchase attempts being in EUR/USD, we kept on having to play a guessing game of "how much is enough" with our foreign exchange rates before the volatile price of Cardano jumped or dipped.

We spent well over 3 hours trying to figure out how to buy Cardano just to pay a European vendor for one measly item. Yes, I know it was dumb. I have no excuse except that we had invested too many brain cells in figuring out how to do something that would've been easier if we just sucked it up and paid with a credit card from the very beginning.

The upshot of the whole mess was when we discovered Coingate allowing us to exchange BCH for ADA.

    Finally!

I simply loaded up my Bitcoin.com wallet, scanned the QR code, and paid for the ADA within two minutes. It took another 2 hours for Coingate to confirm the payment and release the Cardano we bought. And now, here I sit, with mental fatigue and a bruised ego, but with a satisfied friend who now owes me $121 and dinner.

I also cursed out loud that all of this could've been easily solved if the vendor simply accepted BCH too.

TL;DR: Friend wanted to buy an item with Cardano, I helped. We both suffered through the process.

Time spent trying to buy ADA: 3+2 hours

Time spent paying for the ADA with BCH (with confirmation): 2 minutes

    Ego: bruised but intact

    Brain cells lost: too many

Thanks for reading, and hope you had a laugh as much as my friend did.

Will BCH short sellers end up subsidizing SmartBCH?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 05:51 PM PST

If the price of BCH is indeed being suppressed by naked short selling, won't this have the effect of subsidizing SmartBCH, especially as more and more bridges exist between SmartBCH and other chains?

Since there is a cap of 21 million coins, making them artificially cheap will enable retail BCH supporters to move a disproportionately large percentage of the existing supply into SmartBCH. So BCH builds out its defi ecosystem, shorting the coin will only dry up the supply more quickly.

Basically, I think that as defi creates new use cases for BCH, it will quickly become unprofitable to short it, and the short sellers may quickly get squeezed.

    Daily DCA and Cost-Basis

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 06:26 PM PST

If after spending 10 years of daily DCAing into BTC, it seems that the thousands of purchases would present a cost-basis nightmare if ever the time comes to sell a large portion of bitcoin. How would one go about calculating cost-basis for a sale that includes thousands of fractional orders?

Announcing the Bitcoin Out Loud Flipstarter [February 2022]

    Posted: 04 Feb 2022 06:30 AM PST

With a goal of 15.88 BCH, this Flipstarter will fund the production of four videos. You can find the details like cost breakdown, deliverables, etc. on the Flipstarter page here:

    https://bitcoinoutloud.cash/

Each video will provide value to the BCH community in a different way. The fully animated explainer video will be widely appealing, evergreen content that's valuable to crypto newbies and seasoned veterans alike. The Bitcoin Out Loud interview will feature a story in the BCH community that deserves more attention. The Bitcoin Cash Minute video will be maximally accessible and digestible, helping us reach less committed potential viewers. And the Ones Until I'm Broke video will help spread Bitcoin Cash in the gaming community.

While these are projects I'll be working on regardless, funding via Flipstarter will make that work sustainable. I've received several tips/donations over the years, but up-front funding will fundamentally change the way I can execute on these projects. Not only will the production quality be much higher, but I'll be able to work on these projects full time.

    Thanks for your support!
