Is anyone still buying mining rigs? Posted: 08 Jan 2022 03:24 AM PST I have been wanting to build/sell an octominer x8ultra with 8 rtx a2000s. Mostly because I just want to build it, the profit would be worth the time/investment and I don't have enough room on the breaker to keep and mine with it myself. With the eth changeover in June, and the Ravencoin halving next week, I wouldn't be be buying any more GPUs myself. Is everyone still buying or waiting until summer to see how everything pans out? Posted: 08 Jan 2022 03:01 AM PST Hi all, I've been running a small 2 card rig made from old parts I had lying around for a while and recently decided to add a third card. Specs: CPU: Athlon 200GE Motherboard: Gigabyte B450m H RAM: 4GB DDR4 STORAGE: 256GB NVME SSD GPU 1: 2080 ti GPU 2: 1660 Super GPU 3: 1660 Super PSU: Corsair 750w All cards are on risers and I have confirmed all three PCIE slots do work (1x 16x and 2x 1x), but no more than two seem to work at once. I've enabled 4g encoding in the bios, and tried limiting the PCIE speeds to gen 2 but still no dice. I'm thinking there's one of four problems: 1) I'm missing a bios setting somewhere 2) the NVME drive is taking up too many PCIE lanes 3) the CPU does not have enough PCIE lanes for 3 cards 4) the Motherboard does not have enough PCIE lanes for 3 cards But as I don't have the spare parts to test any of these theories, I was hoping someone could give me some advice so I can limit how much I have to spend getting this up and running. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Really in need of some help here Posted: 07 Jan 2022 10:26 PM PST So I'm trying to build a rig with 4 rx 580 and an rx 590. The motherboard is an msi z97 gaming 3, with an intel 4690k plugged in, and 16gb of ddr3, 4 gpus are connected to a 4 way pcie splitter, in a 1x slot, and the other one is connected on the 16x slot. Bios is set up properly, pcie is set to gen 1, pcie clock to 128, hd audio disabled as well as all the other features of the board like hpet, super I/O and such. Right now there are 3 power supply powering everything (I was thinking maybe low power was the issue, before it had two) I dunno where to start, sometimes some cards don't get recognised in device manager, but if I select show hidden device they come up but show as disconnected. If I uninstall them and reboot the pc they usually show up again, but then, I can't really get all the cards to mine, maximum I got so far was to have 4 of them mining before getting a bsod... right now I'm installing drivers again to try one more time to make this work. Someone has suggestions to point me in the right direction? [link] [comments]
What's the coolest card you got? Posted: 07 Jan 2022 09:36 PM PST One of my favorite aspects of GPU mining has been the ability to geek out and buy a bunch of new stuff for my rigs that I otherwise would consider unreasonable. Opening new gear is one of my favorite things about PC building and getting to do it often is a big upside of this hobby. What are the coolest cards you have in your rigs? Personally I just added an RoG Strix 3090 at MSRP and I absolutely love it. 125 MH and it runs at 47C with an ambient of 20C and I thought I would hate the RGB but the reflective fans make it look very nice. You can feel the card is absolutely 0 compromise and every part feels so well machined. The last time I bought a flagship GPU was a 980 and since then the improvement gap has been huuuugggeee. From a pure design perspective the XFX 6700XT I have is probably the card I would keep for my personal PC in a cryptopocalyspe. Very simple metal and black design and keeps the VRAM cool on a card that can get toasty. What about you guys what is your favorite GPU? [link] [comments]
