eth 2.0 will i still be able to mine eth? or will it just make it more difficult? will my miner just stop mining?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:31 PM PST

like i mine with lolminer with 2 3090s, 1 1080, and 1 1080ti if i didnt bother changing anything in my setup when the merge happens will it just stop mining? will it just make it less profitable to mine? or??? I understand this is just speculation at this point but ive seen many people say that gpu mining will be dead once the merge happens but they never elaborate what that means

Vitalik Buterin makes proposal EIP-4488 to lower gas fees for Ethereum Layer-2 in the short term

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:12 AM PST

Layer 2 estimated fees after call data cost reduction

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 04:15 AM PST

    Simple ETH transfers:

    Polygon Hermez: $0.05 Loopring: $0.05 ZKSync: $0.06 Optimism: $0.39 Arbitrum One: $0.49

    Token transfers:

    Polygon Hermez: $0.05 Loopring: $0.05 ZKSync: $0.06 Optimism: $0.44 Arbitrum One: $0.54

    Token swaps:

    Loopring: $0.20 Optimism: $0.55 Arbitrum One: $0.84

These estimations are considering Vitalik's guess of a ~5x fee reduction for Layer 2s. Also, remember that Optimism and Arbitrum One are currently in beta and artificially throttled, meaning their fees will go down even further as they mature. Additionally, Arbitrum is releasing the Nitro upgrade soon, for which we can, in their own words "expect a sizable decrease in costs" and 20-50x faster execution.

Combine all this with the Loopring hype that's currently going on and their possible partnership with GameStop, as well as major exchanges introducing Layer 2 deposits and withdrawals, and on top of that people speculating on generous air drops from projects in these platforms.

I expect to see a massive movement towards Layer 2s and it's gonna happen fast.

Proof of Stake - Where are the nodes?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:53 PM PST

I'm currently researching proof of stake and trying to wrap my head around the whole concept, and one thing that I have yet to be able to find information on is...where are these "nodes" that are actually doing the computation to approve a transaction? For proof of work mining rigs are used to validate and process transactions. With proof of stake though there is no mining, you simply stake coins and the larger your stake the higher your chance of being selected to approve the next block (or did I misunderstand that).

Currently I have staked a small amount of crypto in a proof of stake project and am receiving payouts at set intervals. But I don't know how, as my machines are all turned off during some of these payouts...so it's not my machine that's approving the transactions...it has to be another "node" somewhere else right? If that is the case are these just random servers setup on the network? If so who's paying for these "nodes"? Would there be any benefit in running one yourself?

Need help on how to lower $13,000 gas prices for $95 NFT

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:09 AM PST

I have recently invested in NFT and cryptocurrencies. I started watching youtube videos about minting and flipping NFTs. And one strategy that was talked about the most was following projects and minting NFTs that have a large community.

So I followed one of the cheaper projects I found on rarity.tools, and managed to get whitelisted on their Discord server. The cost to mint one of their NFTs is 0.0234 ETH or about $95. I knew that gas prices are very high and that they are very high when you first buy one. So I was willing to pay double the NFT price.

When I went to buy an NFT, gas prices were about $13,000. And I am not going to pay that much for a $95 NFT. And I know you can lower it by waiting, but that only goes down to $4000.

I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some tips on how to lower gas prices.

Best way to convert Beth to Weth from Binance to MetaMask?

Any possibility of hard fork when move to eth2?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 02:31 PM PST

Sort of new to crypto and was wondering if a large enough number of eth miners prefer to keep mining eth with POW if the 2 could split sort of similar to eth and classic ??? Purely just a thought, no consideration to value , use, or acceptance of the "old" token, just wondering if it is a possibility.

    Is L2 centralized?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:06 AM PST

    Hey guys,

So i've been reading the IMX white-paper, and i'm pretty concerned about how this and L2s in general work, if i'm understanding right.

But basically, from the time when transactions are bridged off the L1 chain, until the time when they are officially written back on the L1 as a rollup, all that is 'centralized' right?

In other words, after converting ETH to IMX, I could lose it all if they decide to break that bridge altogether, have a bug in their software, or their AWS server doing the work goes down etc? I understand once it's been written back to the L1 chain that obviously all is good, the concern is before that. Thanks.

    Hello Everyone,

I recently had a hard time discovering new DAOs to join and finding people's past experiences with those DAOs. To help others experiencing the same problem, I built a website to read/write reviews for DAOs. If you are interested in writing/reading a DAO review, feel free to visit:

Can there be a PoW chain and PoS chain after merge?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:07 PM PST

Can the network be forked into a PoW chain where I can still mine and PoS chain where we can stake?

Is the purpose of difficulty bomb to eliminate the PoW network totally? Why would they do that? Why can't they let two chains run?

ELI5: How will L2 roll up tech work for end users?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:24 PM PST

I'm a bit of a noob to understanding exactly how L2 roll ups will work.

I understand the need for it and a high level understanding on how it works by passing work onto the layer 2 chains.

But what I don't understand is, how will end users actually be making transactions when using layer 2 technology.

Will end users still be trading with "Eth" (while the layer 2 chain is invisible to them)? Or will end users be buying and selling in the relevant L2 coin (while Eth is invisible to them)? Is that even possible?

Any links to relevant readings on the topic would be welcome too :)

    Thanks,
