My crypto portfolio has surpassed the $1 million mark

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:26 PM PDT

I'll admit it, it wasn't easy at all. I endured many nail-biting bear markets, a constant fear of flash crashes, numerous urges to FOMO into different coins, and many other stressful scenarios.

But, at once point during my time investing with crypto, I decided that I need to be patient and smart with me assets: Hold some and stake others for compounded returns. It wasn't a exciting as day trading, but it was a safer route to take. I eventually learned to forget about my portfolio and wait a couple of years until I could check again.

Years later, I am more than happy to say that my crypto portfolio has passed the million dollar mark, making me a crypto millionaire. It was a HUGE accomplishment for me as it will allow me to pursue my interests of playing video games all day and, maybe, start a streaming channel since I always thought of showing off my gaming skills to an audience. It would also give me an opportunity to help out those in need and improve the lives of so many others.

I never thought that I would become a millionaire, especially in Crypto; but here I am. Years of patience and hodling has given me a crypto portfolio that is now worth more than 1 million Zimbabwean Dollars.

"White House wants to pass EO on Crypto. But lacks a staffer with crypto experience. Tim Wu, technology assistant to the President has crypto knowledge, but is recused since he holds crypto". This is dumb. Anyone who understands crypto will hold. Politicians can meet bankers and inside trade stocks.

Bloomberg reports that the White House is considering passing an EO (Executive Order) to regulate crypto.

Its insanely infuriating to see how crypto policy is being formed. They are coming up with crypto policy designed by people with zero skin in the game.

    No Staff Expertise

    The article reports that :

    > One challenge the White House has had in crafting its plans is that it lacks a senior staffer with deep expertise in crypto who can focus on the issue, one person familiar with the policy work said. Tim Wu, a special assistant to the president for technology and competition policy has knowledge in the area, but is recused from working on crypto because of his personal holdings

This makes no sense whatsoever. Anyone who really understands crypto will end up owning it.

If you want to form crypto policy, you need to hear from actual people with skin in the game, who use crypto. Not a bunch of psuedos who have never used crypto but claim they are experts. Like that one tart from UK, Frances Coppola who pretends to be an expert, but didnt even know what a wallet was. She claimed an offline wallet cant receive coins.

They want to form crypto policy without discussing it with anyone from crypto.

But will sit down with a bunch of bankers, some of them like Citi who were to be bailed out with tax payers funds.

Recently politicians and regulators stock investments have been under scrutiny, after it was revealed that several Federal Reserve board presidents have been counter trading stocks with insider information, knowing how their decisions will move the stock prices. This is patently criminal action, but they have been allowed to memory hole this and get on with their lives. It was exposed that one of the Fed board heads Kaplan was trading S&P minis with a minimum tick size of $1m. Other Congress/Senate politicians have also been in hot water for insider trading.

Top El Salvador post is by a butt coiner who wants Bitcoin to crash to 1K. He is not offering any "unbiased perspective" nor does he want crypto to succeed.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 07:07 AM PDT

The controversial top post about El Salvador's OP claims that he wants crypto to succeed,

But if you go into his profile linked in that post, you can see that he is wishing for Bitcoin to go to 1K. Lmao

    https://nitter.net/samsungsv19/status/1446184849971236876?s=20

This guy literally wants crypto to burn, but yall are celebrating him because he is putting out "unbiased perspectives". Lmao

    https://nitter.net/samsungsv19/status/1446144675736399881#m

Nobody who wants crypto to succeed will wish for 1K BTC and RT known fudsters. Its hilarious people even fall for this.

The OP follows and RTs stuff like this

    https://nitter.net/Quinnvestments/status/1446262224520105987?s=20

This quinn investment guy is a known fraudster who cooks up conspiracy theories, just have a look at his profile lol.

Bullshit that has already been denied, like Tether holding Evergrande.. Infact this nonsense claims 78% of Tether reserves are Evergrande, which is total lies.

And that OP RT's nonsense like this, wishing for crypto to burn, but you all are assuming he is posting his "unbiased opinion" on bitcoin law. Lol

    Edit:

Some comments are pointing out that I havent deboonked what that OP has said. I did actualyl debunk him last month, but then realised he isnt having honest debates but is just putting out propaganda. Given that he isnt acting in good faith, and is a buttcoiner, kinda pointless for me to debunk moreover, he is clearly lying that he wants to see crypto succeed, and instead has a very biased agenda. He is not debating in good faith. If you check his profile, he had posted that BTC would be a failure even before the roll out. Literally, before the plan was implemented and went live, he claimed it would be a failure. Anyone really expect this guy to be unbaised at this point?

Coming to the protests, yes there are protests, but the protests are to do with politics rather than bitcoin. You will find one or two guys carrying an anti-bitcoin banner in the entire protest. Most of the protests are purely due to political reasons, that have nothing to do with Bitcoin. All those pictures he has posted as proof are all from protests shared on twitter, they have nothing to do with bitcoin except that fact that Bitcoin is implemented by the president, against whom all the protests are targeted.

That guy claims Bitcoin rollout is "not going well".

Stats from Google app store and IOS app store prove him wrong.

The Chivo wallet is still #2 on ios app store, ahead of most viral apps like FB/ Whatsapp/Twitter/TikTok etc

    https://www.similarweb.com/apps/top/apple/store-rank/sv/all/

And on Android play store, the wallet is the #1 app too..

    https://www.similarweb.com/apps/top/google/store-rank/sv/all

The Chivo app is pretty much TOP on both app stores. Quite some failure huh! Definitely not doing well...

Just because there have been some issues during rollout doesnt mean its a failure or its not going well. Many mass implementation programs have problems initially, infact even the US covid stimmy checks took a while to arrive and there was implementation delays. Later, WaPo reported that over 1 M checks went out to dead people. Was that a failure too?

Now lets look at some real stories that are success:

Over 3 million users have downloaded the wallet.

More users in El Salvador are now using Chivo / have a bitcoin wallet than they have traditional bank accounts. - This alone is a massive win, in a country where huge amounts of people are unbanked, they have now instantly been given access to the world's most open and fair financial network.

Already, Brazil is considering following El Salvador adopting Bitcoin as well.

A country implementing BTC is not a race to the finish, it is a long term program. OP knows that too, but since he is a biased propagandist, he wants to put out hit pieces on a monthly basis

That guy is just grinding his grudge against the president who he clearly hates, and using this sub as an outlet to air his political hit posts.

    What do MOONS even do?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:58 PM PDT

Whilst trying to be careful to not insult this sub's favourite thing, what do moons even do? Like what is the end goal?

A lot of this sub is critical of coins and tokens that provide no utility potential like ETH and ADA, so are moons just the equivalent of another form of Internet points like upvotes and likes?

I'm aware that you get more for voting which i guess is a utility in that it encourages the participation in polls.

Anyway, feel free to fill me in; I'm sure I'm missing something!

Also, just another plug for getting rid of this silly 500 character count or at least install a counter on the app so we know when to stop. God forbid people are encouraged to waffle anymore than they already do 😂

Coibase charges a 25% fee on staking rewards.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 02:00 PM PDT

Many people seem to be unaware of coinbase's fees hidden in their staking user agreement, so I just wanted to highlight this fact so everyone is aware.

I'm linking the ETH staking User agreement here in so anyone who wants to give it a full read can do so. Staking on coinbase also comes with certain risks and the lacks guarantees that makes me unwilling to stake on their custodial platform. I recommend staking in a wallet you control the keys to, but that is a choice for each individual. Please give the terms a look if you use/stake using coinbase.

As always, do your own research and I don't know shit about fuck.

Edit: I believe the rates quoted by coinbase already have their fee factored in. I have attempted to contact support looking for clarity on this topic and have yet to receive a response.

Edit2: it appears the staking fee varies by cryptocurrency. Some are higher than others.

    I'm from El Salvador...UPDATE 3 (REUPLOAD)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 04:17 PM PDT

I screw it up with some links, I sincerely apologize for that.

Hi, I've been posting this updates in the bitcoin subreddit since sept 7th. Some people ask me to post here too, so read and ask me any doubt you have!

It's been a while so I'll give you an update on how things are going.

    • There haven't been anti-btc protest since sept 7th. Sept 15th was Independence Day so there were many reasons to the protest. There have been many protests (not btc) but that's common in my country, its weird not having a protest between weeks LoL.

    Do people hate btc?

    • Not at all, some are afraid since they don't understand, but the main concern is the law. Due to a large history of government corruption, people don't trust government, there's always a catch in this type of laws. I repeat, this has nothing to do with btc at all but how government handle things.

    Chivo App (official wallet)

Chivo app is now available to most devices and it works fine most of the time although there are moments when either it's on maintenance mode or simply die. There are some cases where chivo app stop working the moment you want to pay…some "karens" have made a fuss at supermarkets or fast-food restaurants, LoL.

    • Lightning network works fine.
    • Layer 1 transactions still shows problems. (my $2 are still on the way since sept 8)
    • Minor issues when sending money from chivo app to bank account.
    • People are still selling the $30 btc bonus for $25 USD cash. (They even use facebook marketplace for promotion LoL. Here's a pic altough in spanish)

    Problems with registration

I'll explain this giving some context, the main identification we Salvadoran have is called DUI which stands for "Documento Único de Identidad" (Unique identity document). This ID shows your photo, name, date and place of birth, if your single or married, parents name, your address and a 9-digit number. This number is unique to every person however it's not something you maintain in secret. You usually use your DUI to when making a contract or any other legal procedure…or simply use it to prove your not underage when buying alcohol, LoL.

By itself, the DUI number it's useless, legal documents will also require you to personally sign aside other stuff. You can use your DUI number in raffles, polls and other stuff like that. People can't robe or scam you just because you give them your DUI number, so nobody actually cares about keeping the number in secret.

Now that I explained that, here's the issue. To register in chivo app and get your $30 bonus, first you type your phone number, DUI number, take a photo of your DUI and a photo of yourself, and type a security code (your standard KYC). People found out that, to complete the registration process you only need a phone number and DUI number, there is actually no verification of your ID and face photo, just taking a random photo will let you complete the registration.

Some people take advantage of this and start craving for DUI numbers, there many data bases that have hundreds and thousands of DUI numbers, you can usually buy these things for marketing purposes (SMS - emails campaigns, segmentation, etc.). You can also buy a phone number for $1.

You probably can get the idea of what the problem is…now that chivo app is available to most devices, people start discovering that their DUI number has already been registered, so they can't use the app and even less get the $30 bonus.

There haven't been any official communication from government about this problem however the director of police department said in an interview that people who are doing these things will get arrested, investigations have started. Here's an article, altough in spanish, might have to use google translator.

    Remittances

There are three main ways to send money from overseas to my country.

    1. Buy USD with a credit/debit card in chivo website and send directly to a relative's chivo app. This has 0 fees although some banks may charge you like US Bank and Bank of America. Wells Fargo and Chase have 0 fees.
    2. If for legal reasons you don't have a bank account, you can get paid in btc and send it
    3. or continue using businesses like Western-Union.

    Btc mining

    The power of volcanoes! ...(sigh)

I'll be honest and tell you all that this is marketing…at least for today, 2021.

In my country we need to buy (import) electricity from other countries to meet the demand. So don't expect a big mining farm from the get go, maybe in 10 years there will be a really big mining farm sustained with clean energy.

Also, we are taking away this clean energy to direct it exclusively to btc. Good for btc, bad for my country. Anyways, thanks to this there might be mayor investments in geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy needs to be developed through time; it's not just finding a vein of water.

Here is a presentation with some data…although it's a decade old, it might give you some insights about geothermal development…it's in English btw.

There's also the math of the cost of btc mining and the actual gains but since I don´t have any information I´ll skip that for now.

    People's behavior

As I've said multiple times, nothing has really changed, we just have a new payment method.

People are starting to know how btc works, the bearish and bullish market, etc. On a daily basis there's no difference between USD and btc, people are showing interest in crypto as an investment method and not a currency…most businesses like restaurants and supermarkets accept btc as payment, there are others who only accept USD, either because they're against it or don't give a shi… there are others who doesn't accept btc because people don't show interest in paying with btc.

There was also a big promotion in the price of gas, minus $0.20 for a gallon. However, I don't see a big fuss about this…which is weird… the promotion will end around October 14th so I'll wait for any data that might come out.

Unfortunately, we don't have any data about chivo aside the presidents' tweets, which I personally don't trust as a source. There are some polls out there of how many people uses btc as payment but I still think it's to early to get that type of info, consumer behavior wont change in a short period of time.

    -----

Truth to be told, foreigners might feel more the hype than Salvadorans LoL.

As always I'll try to answer your questions and explain things as long as I can.

    ----

EDIT: here are my other post if you want to take a look.

I'm from El Salvador, ask me if you want to know what is happening here!

Financial Advice - JUST DO NOTHING

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 12:12 PM PDT

The best investing strategy is and will always be BUY and do absolutely NOTHING. You may hear stories of people trading their way to riches, but that only happens to less than 1% of people and my guess is their luck eventually begins to run out and they end up back where they started.

Time in the market is better than timing the market. There is a reason most actively managed portfolios rarely beat passively invested ETF portfolios.

Invest for the long term and not the short term. Don't make emotional irrational trades when your coin moves 20% in a day and panic sell. JUST DO NOTHING.

Not only does this give historically greater gains, but it is a much less stressful strategy as well.

    #HODL

Edit - Remember to stake before HODLing - thanks bannaripple

I found a piece of paper containing random words while doing some spring cleaning

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 06:00 PM PDT

I'm new to crypto. How new? I started properly investing in 2021. Of course, I've heard of cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, and a few others over the last few years.

So recently, I found a piece of paper tucked away between books at home, with random words and it hit me, could this be a the seed phrases for a wallet?

How could this be possible? I haven't bought into crypto before this year, or at least i dont remember buying in. My mind starts racing. Holy shit I'd be rich as fuck if my younger self bought some BTC and forgot about it. I could get that PS5 upgrade, I could quit my job, I could eat fancier dollar store ramen.

Okay, I decide then to calm myself down and started looking through my old phone for any wallet apps. I look through my PC for any wallet apps. Nothing.

So i decided to do some googling and looked for any desktop wallet names I recognize. Only 2 prominent ones stood out, electrum & exodus. Great, I've heard of those well before i started investing in crypto. I start a search on my PC for any dat files.

And there it was. A wallet.dat file hidden away in an archived electrum folder. Thank fuck i dont delete old files.

    I start sweating even more.

I enter the seed phrases and lo it accepts it. I'm brought to the balances page and it shows that my portfolio is worth is mind blowing $0.

Turns out I'd heard of crypto long ago and created a wallet to buy. And ended up not getting any. Younger me will be kicking myself right now if he could.

So I'll be sticking to my PS4, I'll be keeping my job, and I'll continue eating regular instant noodles.

So i guess this is a good reminder. Save your seed phrases somewhere safe, if you forget about it, you might have some life changing money! Or not...

    Solana or Algo?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 05:23 PM PDT

I am very conflicted, while I have a bag of both I am thinking of selling 1/2 my Sol for Algo because of goverance.

What do you guys think? I'm long term on both.

Will I have regret? Is this FOMO?

I just look at the goverance and it just looks really good.

What would you guys do? With Sol being shut down and all, will it lose steam.

Algo has been on a nice run. Will it continue?

    Which project has more potential?

Will Algo be more affordable in the next few days or should I buy it asap?

I only have a few days to decide.

Thanks in advance for any help and all the best to you and your family.

Why I’m All In: Memories of the 90s

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 08:07 PM PDT

I was a day trader in the mid-late 90s and was heavily invested in the tech sector. The crypto market has a lot of similarities to the dot.com boom because, back then, we were chasing infrastructure for the greatest returns. Research went into companies laying the foundations and learning about their technology. Why bet on Cisco, it was about TCP/IP. Xerox? Networking. Qualcomm? Mobile communication hardware. Checkpoint? Cryptography and security. The fools bets, but some of the quickest money, was in the shaky business models with a lot of marketing. Thin pets.com.

What I see today are companies laying the really raw foundations of a new economy. We're evaluating raw infrastructure and future standards. Ethernet vs. Token Ring. Those are the ETH, the ALGO, the ADA, the L2's. Best execution, not first movers, are the winners.

And the market may have multiple strong competitors. There's more than 1 cloud. There was more than 1 app sever company. It's prudent to diversify into multiple peers.

But trends do change. More innovation and disruption will happen and you have to be paying attention. There's no hold at any price strategy. Apple won't rule forever, neither did IBM or Oracle, Facebook is cracking. A market crash like 2001 and 2008 wiped out huge swaths of the market, drove consolidation and redundancy and led to new innovation. Crypto crashes will happen in shorter cycles and be more volatile due to the faster pace of innovation and desire for higher risk. Your portfolio should be prepared to turnover. Know when to take profits on cryptos who may be vulnerable.

These are the kinds of early investing opportunities to a new revolution that only come by every once or twice a generation.

    I'm all in.

The Official Shiba Inu Discord is Brigading Posts here, giving Positive Posts 1000s of Points: Do not Trust random Reddit Posts about Cryptos

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 07:54 AM PDT

The official Shiba Inu Discords is sharing links to posts here, heavily brigading them and creating the illusion of agreement by the community.

These are not random people on the officially SHIB developer endorsed Discords, but their own staff pushing people to positively comment and upvote the posts.

This includes, as example, the post about stopping being butthurt about people making money off SHIB

They also call on brigading people being critical on SHIB, and link to their own comments on their discord and call for support.

But this post is not only about SHIB, you should never buy a crypto only because a community heavily favors it or randomly endorses is, this is the best example for it.

Crypto has warped my sense of dollar value

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 05:35 PM PDT

I started about a year ago in crypto. Since then I've done okay, lived through the ups and downs, and haven't sold anything back into fiat.

Nowadays I'm transferring 4 years salary back and forth from Celsius. A bit unnerving but just a regular transaction in the scheme of things. I played around with some shitcoins earlier this month and lost a couple months salary. Bought into something a few days ago and made most of it back. Ho-hum.

Yesterday a hose in my bathroom broke and I was at the hardware store to replace it. Here's a good one for $6! Oh, wait this one is $4. Is the $6 one better? I must have stood there for 10 minutes contemplating the $2 difference.

Is there a psychological phenomenon for this? Numbers on a screen in my bank account are a big deal but in my crypto account not so much. Is it because the numbers are so surreal that I can't comprehend it? Anyone else feel this way?

Can I get an F in the chat?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 10:58 PM PDT

For all my locked funds on non-KYC'd exchanges, that I no longer have access on due to lost 2FA. My phone reset 2 nights ago, and I have no way to restore my Google Authenticator...F.

Remember folks, always back up your secret key in multiple places if you use Google Authenticator 2FA (or any other one). Don't be like me.

The most sure fire way to keep your passwords, seed phrases, and keys safe is hidden somewhere that only you know about, in a fire proof pouch or safe, ideally under lock and key. Keep them away, but ALWAYS keep them. You never know when you may need them. I will be taking my security measures far more seriously after this terrible incident.

On a positive note I just got a cold wallet and I love using that with my metamask. I am going to keep way more custody of my coins now and way better track of my security protocols.
