Moon Week 18 - New Governance Polls, the Latest Distribution Proposal, and the State of the Subreddit

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 08:51 AM PDT

Hello everyone and welcome to Moon Week for round 18 of Moons!

Moon Week began yesterday with the snapshot post by the admins. Check out the post and comments to see how many moons you'll be getting next Wednesday at the end of Moon Week.

To give exposure to our governance polls for the month, this Moon Week post will remain pinned to the top of the subreddit until the distribution post next Wednesday. Please review the following important information and frequently asked questions first. Each month we have dozens of questions about these things even though they are answered right here:

    • If you can't see polls or vote, or have any other issue, try again later or from a different platform (different browser, app, mobile, or desktop). These glitches usually resolve themselves within a few hours, but let us know if it hasn't after a day or two.
    • You can't change your vote so make sure you read the full post and discussions, and ask any questions you have before you vote. There are people wishing they voted differently every month and you have several days to vote so there is no need to rush it.
    • Do not harass poll authors, tell people to cast a certain vote, brigade polls, or derail discussions.
    • You get a 5% moon bonus for voting in at least 1 poll, plus an additional 1.25% for each additional approved poll due to this recent proposal
    • You will also get a special badge for a week after voting in a governance poll. These are visible in the reddit app and new.reddit. If you have voted and yours is not showing, you may need to enable it manually by clicking your badges and looking at the Achievements tab.
    • Successful polls are implemented whenever the mods or admins have a chance to do it. Usually this is within days or weeks of the poll passing, but depends on workload, priorities, and complexity of implementation

Here are your polls for round 18 of Moons:

For more information about Moons, please see our wiki page here.

    Happy voting!

My wife thought I’m cheating on her because I’m spending too much time on internet. She searched my browser history, now she thinks I’m addicted to drug called Bitocin.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 11:16 PM PDT

Lately, I started to stare at my phone more than usual due to recent spike in cryptocurrency volatile market. You know how it goes when market is pumping. I started to learn or maybe even repeat some things that I know about cryptos, blockchain, TA...

My wife started to have feelings that I'm cheating on her. The suspicion was building up. She was trying to see what I'm doing on my phone most of the day, why I was hiding the screen from her. You know, I followed the most crucial commandment of crypto. Don't disclose that you're invested in crypto.

Few days passed, I got little bit drunk and went to sleep. My wife realised it and researched my phone! Oh boy, that was definitely good morning. She started to scream at me, that I'm fucking narcotic, that now she knows from where i was getting all the money. She told me that she knows about my addiction to Bitocin and how I'm buying it low selling it high. She knows everything.

Recent search history: "best place to store Bitocin", "where to hide keys to your Trezor", "where to buy Bitocin", "how to sell Bitocin". "How to fuck your cousin..." fuck thats different story.

Moral of the story, clear your cookies and cache, delete the browse history. You don't want your wife to know that you're addicted to Bitocin.

A lot of new crypto investors are going to get burned big time when we enter the next bear market.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 05:04 PM PDT

Now before you downvote me for even mentioning a bear market, I am insanely bullish on crypto right now. I think we have at least 4x left in the market. That being said, I don't think this time is different. I think we will enter a bear market, just like every other time before this.

One thing I've noticed with a lot of the people that got into crypto this year is an insane amount of them are invested in complete garbage. I'm talking DOGE, SHIB, and worst of all, SafeMoon. Some of them also don't like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other good coin for that matter.

These people don't give a fuck about decentralization, smart contracts, or even blockchain in general. No offense to any of them, but they have such a one dimensional understanding of crypto and what it can do. I feel bad for them, because they really don't know what they're doing.

When we enter a bear market, these shitcoins are going to get absolutely destroyed. You know that saying your grandpa told you: "If bitcoin falls 80%, Doge falls 99%"? It's true. SHIB and SafeMoon especially, will fall to almost nothing. These people will then sell everything, and claim crypto is a scam or whatever.

The real reason you have to order the Crypto.com credit card

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 01:39 PM PDT

Last Friday I went out and I payed with it at a party venue. The guy behind me saw it and asked about it. He told me it's impressive for a woman to have knowledge of how investments work, especially ones like crypto.

Aaaand we have a date this week.

I could imagine the reverse happening for woman too, if I saw a cute guy paying with a crypto card and myself being an investor too, its like having a really rare common interest.

Crypto is such a flex for real, use it people! ❤️

Make profits and make love 🥰

    Edit for the offended:

    • A survey by S&P Global found that only 26% of American women have money in the stock market. Even less in crypto market. And even less in the European Union since it's less common here. I would say 10-15% of European women has crypto investments. He meant that it's nice that I belong to this small percentage. He did not meant that because "I have a small brain", it's a big deal. It's simply because of the percentages of women involved in it.

    • You don't know the details. You don't know how the talk went on, you just assume by one sentence. Which actually translated from an another language so it did not have the same meaning exactly.

    • It's not healthy to assume bad right away of an another human being. Don't judge.

    • I posted this with a totally different intent. To give you an example of how you can build relationships/friendships with a common rare interest.

Just stop being hateful, I can't really imagine why people are looking for a chance to spread negativity on someone's happy post. This is the last time I comment about these "he is a sexist pig" replies because simply I don't agree with you, I was there in person and you are simply making a big thing out of nothing.

This is the worst time to sell your alt coins for bitcoin

    Posted: 06 Oct 2021 02:02 AM PDT

As the title says this is actually the worst time for you to sell your alt coins for bitcoin. BTC has pumped almost 24% in the past week. Bitcoin dominance has jumped too, currently sitting at 42.62%. If we look at the past trends, when bitcoin makes a move, usually alts dump on their BTC pairs while maintaining the USD value or sometimes dumping on that pair too. Once Bitcoin is done moving, it stabilizes at a certain range and lets alts run. The first alt coin which usually moves is ETH and all the others follow it. So if you're thinking about selling your alts for BTC in hopes of catching a further 5% pump, think again. ALT/BTC pairs are currently bottoming and have way much more room to run.

Well memecoins are making a killing today, anyone know why? SHIB up 60%, DOGE up 11%, Safemoon up 11%.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 11:25 AM PDT

So right now, SHIB up 60%, DOGE up 11%, Safemoon up 11%. Anyone know what's pushing the memecoin action right now? I know Elon made a tweet yesterday but I find it difficult to believe that's where all the forward momentum is coming from with these coins. I'm not knocking it btw, if regular people are making money with memecoins then more power to them. I'm just genuinely curious why such big upticking for these coins while the rest of the market is only seeing a few percentage points up because I'm not really seeing anything in the news feeds on it. Congratulations to everyone holding these coins right now, hopefully you continue to see big numbers going up.

What are your top picks to net you the most gains in the next 5-10 years? I'm not talking about a future project that hasn't been invented yet, I am asking about current projects that you guys are most bullish on to increase in value the most. Personally the projects I'm most bullish on are constantly changing but the ones I currently believe show the most promise are as follows (in no particular order): -

Bitcoin Ethereum Cardano Tezos Algorand Harmony one Chainlink Amp VeChain And my pick outside the top 100 is LTO

Keen to hear the thoughts of the community. My picks are mostly based on the opinions of others in this sub and the content that is shared here. Cheers

Confession of an index fund investor - Crypto is so promising and the potential for creating wealth is insane

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 09:32 PM PDT

I have a confession to make - I thought crypto was irrelevant and so risky that it shouldn't touched with a 10 foot pole. I am in my late 30's and majority (90%+) of my investments are in index funds and have been ignorant about crypto until recently.

I started to educate myself and been reading about crypto in late August to gain rudimentary understanding. I then got serious about investing in crypto and started to buy BTC and Algorand in September. Some in ADA and LINK thereafter. I still don't know shit about all the intricacies and all the tech involved, but the potential for returns is off the charts! Oh, sending crypto is so quick and easy! None of this ACH BS waiting for funds to clear in 3 days (although I did had to wait when funding my exchange).

Official Algorand wallet - that sweet automatic staking and now governance is around the corner with even more rewards! So seamless and you just earn!

Crazy yield - 8% on GUSD, are you fucking kidding me? I thought I was lucky earning 0.55% in my bank savings account! 6%+ on BTC? Interest on appreciating asset? 9% on USDC? This is unheard of! (yes I know some exchanges provide higher rates but I avoid some due to how their businesses are structured).

I started to do even more search and signed up for additional exchanges and soft wallets to take advantage of their unique benefits.

Today I discovered about Lofty.ai. Holy shit, now I can buy real estate properties in less than 3 minutes and hold them as tokens in my Algo wallet. Crazy, this shit is insane!

So much potential in cryto for building wealth. So many unique products and new ways to do business, I am just in awe.

I fear for the NFT market. SO many mediocre games will be created over the next year just to give a purpose to their NFT Collections.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 10:57 PM PDT

They're all promising to incorporate their NFTs in to Pokemon or Hearthstone style games. They can't all be good! Many will fail. It's like the market is currently based on hopium because everyone is waiting for their NFT games to blow up.

I've been following the Discord and Twitter discussions for many new collections and they are all releasing similar looking roadmaps, promising holders that the value of their NFTs will blow up once the game is released, but almost all of the games feel like an afterthought or the devs haven't even hired developers yet. I come from a game design background and it feels very backwards that they are selling 'Art' and then trying to create a popular game with it. Just my opinion. What do you all think?

    Happy Distribution Day!

    Posted: 06 Oct 2021 12:57 AM PDT

It is officially the happiest day of the month, Moon distribution day. In honour of this, I'm keen to get the sentiment of the sub on Moons future!

I personally think if they are rolled out reddit wide it will probably change how a huge portion of reddit users act. So perhaps it will always be only in particular subs, or for particular content.

I've been telling almost everyone who will listen to me about how interesting this sub is because of moons, which will in turn create more adoption for crypto overall. Which can't be a bad thing!

What do you see as the future of Moons?

Tired of waiting on Cardano dapps to launch? Have a go with the Ergo dapp ecosystem.

    Posted: 06 Oct 2021 01:02 AM PDT

Tired of waiting on Cardano dapps to launch? Have a go with the Ergo dapp ecosystem.

If you are itching to play around with some Cardano dapps but sick of waiting despite alonzo being out, boy do I have the solution for you!

The Ergo Ecosystem circa September 2021

Ergo is another eutxo blockchain closely tied to the cardano ecosystem and has had smart contracts deployed since day 1 mainnet.

"The spiritual successor to Bitcoin" - Charles Hoskinson

The ergo platform is developed on sigma protocols. Sigma protocols are the foundation of Ergo's smart contracts. They allow for a class of efficient zero-knowledge protocols that allow implementation of tasks that would otherwise be either impossible, or else risky and expensive. For example, Sigma protocols enable ring and threshold signatures out of the box. This functionality has already been used to build a trustless, non-interactive fungibility enhancer for coins and tokens.

So far Ergo has a very healthy dapps that might just scratch the itch of waiting oon post-alonzo Cardano dapps to release. Here is a brief overview of some of what the ecosystem has to offer. Links to each dapp are in the title of each:

Bid on audio, picture, gif, and token NFTs

Ergo Auction House - a decentralized auction house, secure and easy to use. A simple way to sell or buy Ergo's tokens, artworks, NFTs, etc.

Check out the Ergodex roadmap and try the beta - full release coming soon

ERGODEX (public beta) - A non-custodial, decentralised exchange that allows a quick, effortless and secure transfer of liquidity between the Ergo and Cardano networks. Currently useable with Ergo native assets via Yoroi nightly and Yoroi dapp connector nightly.

Mix your ERG with other wallets to maintain financial privacy

ErgoMixer - a web application for mixing ergs and tokens based on Ergo platform. ErgoMixer is completely serverless; It only needs to connect to the explorer and a node.

View and listen to Ergo NFTs in your wallet

Ergo NFTS / Ergo Tokens - Website to view information on NFTs / Tokens created on the Ergo blockchain.

    Fund a community based project

Ergo Raffle - Ergo Raffle is an incentivized crowdfunding platform for the community to gather funding for their ideas. Or you can make a raffle for fun, join in and maybe you will get lucky!

Explore essential utility functions on Ergo

Ergo Utils - Ergo Utils is an app that contains different useful functionalities for all users. It is easy to use and supports all wallets. Currently, issuing new tokens and artwork NFTs are supported along with token airdrops and Mixer Hops for the ErgoMixer.

    Pure, decentralized finance

SigmaUSD - Experience the latest advancements in Stablecoins by buying and selling SigUSD and SigRSV using Ergo and smart contracts. This project is based on the AgeUSD Protocol. If you know Djed, it was born out of the AgeUSD Protocol.

Your free pass to other dapps in the Ergo ecosystem.

ErgoFaucet - This one is brand new. Receive some free tokens to play around in the ErgoMixer or the Ergodex! How can you say no to free crypto?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many more dapps are still in development by community members. Currently we even have an Ergohack hackathon running and we should expect to see even more great new dapps come out of this! If you want to join in on Ergohack head over to the Ergo discord and we can get you on a team. Dev work starts this weekend with a prize pool of 9k SigUSD.

Help a fellow Redditor out when you see he/she hasn't opened up their vault

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 07:03 PM PDT

I still see a number of Redditors who have not opened their vault. How do I spot that? Well, it's very elementary Watson. When you see a Redditor in this sub and they do not have a moon icon with the numbers of moons next to his/her username. It indicates that an individual hasn't opened their vault yet.

As of now most of the people in this sub (>90%) do not have their vault open. So how can we guide them to the wonders of the MOONs? Simple, just send them this link. It would give them enough information about the MOONs and how it is utilized.

Being MOONed every 28 days is a great experience and you know what they say, the more the merrier! Please share the love and joy with the new members of the sub and those old veterans who have yet to open the magic vault of happiness.

MOON day is approaching and I wish you all to be MOONed.

P.S. This is not a financial advice

A year ago, I invested $5 into ten lesser-known coins for fun. This is how they fared since.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2021 05:03 AM PDT

EDIT: I read your comments and apologize for giving people such misguided Hopium. I was very lucky. I bought right before the Bull market started, and I could've just as easily lost everything. Be smart. Invest with knowledge and know what you're doing. I said the same in a new post I just made.

Note: This applies from the 3rd of October, 2020 to the 3rd of October, 2021, when I wrote the post. I'm posting it today because I had trouble accessing it all.

Like it says on the title: last year I just happened to have $50 to spare and, instead of adding it to my other crypto investments, I decided to have a little fun and invest on coins with a low market value that no one seemed to know about (at the time anyways). I swore to myself that I would not check on their progress until a full year had passed.

Why October 3rd? Because I knew I'd remember it due to all the Mean Girls and FMA memes, that's why.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the ten coins and how much money they've made me since:

#1: Polkastarter (POLS) is a cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) built on Polkadot for token pools and auctions. Its value rose 208.3% in the past year, earning me $10.41 extra.

#2: Flamingo (FLM) aims to unleash the full potential of DeFi, a crucial component on which to base the Neo Smart Economy. Its value rose 21.4% in the past year, earning me $1.07 extra.

#3: Tellor (TRB) is a decentralized oracle network that allows smart contracts on Ethereum to securely connect to external data sources. Its value rose 162.4% in the past year, earning me $8.12 extra.

#4: Qtum (QTUM) is a cryptocurrency which uses a proof-of-stake consensus model for creating new blocks, which is far easier and less energy-intensive than Bitcoin's proof-of-work model. Its value rose 509.8% in the past year, earning me $25.49 extra.

#5: Polymath (POLY) is an Ethereum token that aims to facilitate digital securities trading on the Polymath platform. Its value rose 2031.2% in the past year, earning me $101.56 extra.

#6: Stellar (XLM) is a decentralized protocol on open-source code to transfer digital currency to fiat money domestically and across borders. Its value rose 343.4% in the past year, earning me $17.16 extra.

#7: Monero (XMR) uses a public distributed ledger with privacy-enhancing technologies that obfuscate transactions to achieve anonymity and fungibility. Its value rose 149.8% in the past year, earning me $7.49 extra.

#8: Serum (SRM) is a decentralized exchange software built on Solana where cryptocurrencies can be bought and sold by traders. Its value rose 470.8% in the past year, earning me $23.54 extra.

#9: Avalanche (AVAX) is a platform for creating custom blockchain networks and decentralized applications (dApps). Its value rose 1599.8% in the past year, earning me $79.99 extra.

And finally, the last coin, which gave me astronomical returns, and which makes me incredibly sad I didn't put more money into it. But oh well. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

#10: Gala (GALA) is a platform that builds a range of blockchain-powered games, each of which provides players with true ownership of their in-game items through the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Its value rose a wooping 12153.9% in the past year, earning me $607.695 goddamn extra.

So... yeah, that was wild. Notice how there was nothing but profit. If you invest in crypto and leave it alone for a year, it will almost surely be nothing but profits. I love crypto because of that.

It was fun! I'll probably do the same right now, and come back in a year with another post like this :D
