Found an Ethereum wallet in the wild with a tiny sum of shitcoins !!!

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 11:07 AM PDT

So I was reading about how seed phrases are generated and trying to find Python code samples to see how it works. I stumbled on this article and the author walks through the process then generates a 12 word recovery phrase as an example.

As you would do, I got curious and imported the words into metamask, boom, couple of worthless shitcoins are being held there. Here is the address

There is less than $1 worth of dust in there. The article was published in May 2020 and the address seems to have received some funds 3 years ago.

This got me thinking, how many people are running scripts to generate seed phrases and testing if they have funds in there? I realize it's highly unlikely given probabilities. But it got me paranoid.

Global Internet Outage vs ETH 2.0

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 12:21 PM PDT

As titled, I would appreciate some insight about what the expected consequences (namely the risk of slashing) of a global internet outage would be on currently staked ETH. My concern stems from the recent ramping up of the same rhetoric that has preceded many of those manufactured crises that we are now used to. I am specifically referring to the WEF's Cyber Polygon 2021.

My understanding is that validator misbehavior/inactivity is penalized through slashing. So what if the entire internet goes down globally? Likewise, what if the internet only goes down in a specific region of the world, but not others; and/or what if the internet goes back up unevenly across the world?

I get that the risk might seem far fetched as of today. But one thing that recent months have taught us is that tail-risk has become the norm, especially when it is foretold by those exact same institutions and so-called think-tanks. Thanks for your input.

Understanding of the beacon chain and merge

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 07:31 PM PDT

Since both PoS and PoW are live, does it mean same transactions are mined in both protocols and added in different chains? What will be the role of the PoW chain after the merge?

    TPS, validators and Eth "killer"

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 08:03 PM PDT

Correct me If I am wrong: High TPS requires high-end validator machine which discourages average stakers like us. Does it mean chains that boast of lightning-fast and cheap TPS like Solana are bound to be more centralized in the long run?

Where do these newbie chains compromise to achieve faster and cheaper transactions?

Can Polygon/Matic bought on Binance be transferred to Ledger?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 06:22 PM PDT

Not really an Ethereum question but since Poly is Eth's main layer two I thought I would ask here. When I go to add the Matic app to Ledger it says to Manage ERC20 tokens please verify you have the ERC20 version before sending to your Ethereum account. Isn't everything purchased on Binance US BEP-2 though? Does this mean you can't transfer Matic bought through Binance to a Ledger? What if you if you have some BEP-2 matic bought on Binance and some ERC20 from Coinbase? Can both go on Ledger and does it separate them? I find the whole BEP-2 and ERC20 thing confusing.

    Paper wallet and private key

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 06:07 PM PDT

Apart from My ether wallet, I havent found any other wallet that lets the user have the raw private key or keystore. could you suggest some that lets you create an address offline and hands over the private key?

Bonus Ques: Does seed phrases work across wallets e.g., metamask seed phrase in MEW?

Is it possible for miner who refuse to accept ETH2.0 to fork the current chain & delay the difficulty bomb to 2121?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 12:38 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I am thinking about a kind of approaching risk, where large amount of Ethereum miners who refuse to upgrade to ETH2.0, and decide to fork the current ETH chain and delay the difficulty bomb.

    Is that possible?

Can miner fork the current ETH chain and then delay the difficulty bomb?

If this happened, how will that effect the value of Ethereum?

Sorry quick question here - is it entirely true to say that Ethereum was the world's first programmable Blockchain? Or were other less well known networks doing the same around the same time? Just after some historical context if anyone can help.
