I sold 50% of my portfolio.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 01:50 AM PDT

I first purchased ETH @ $250 in late 2018 and DCA'd further in 2019-2020 when it dropped below $250. This morning I sold half of it @ $3150 for ~1200% gain. Among other coins, I also sold 50% of my ALGO for ~450% gain.

It wasn't easy to let them go by any means. I will buy back in lower if the opportunity presents itself, but if not, I'm happy with this profit. It's more than I ever dreamt of and I still have 50% of my ETH/coins left if any of them moon.

I truly wish you all the same success. Believe in your projects no matter what happens in the short term.

EDIT: a few users asked what I plan to do with the profits - it's enough to finally move out of the endless cycle of renting and buy a home for myself, my wife + kids.

Senator Toomey Urges Congress to Stop Treasury From Picking Winners and Losers in Crypto | "Crypto has the potential to be the future of the internet"

"Now isn't the time for the IRS to pick winners and losers with a new technology. Crypto has the potential to be the future of the internet," he further opined. "How foolish to crush it over a tax provision that possibly raises just $500 million per year more in a $1.2 trillion bill."

Senate Update: Sen. Warner has introduced ANOTHER amendment at the last minute, now removing "proof of work" from the validator exception text. Our voices are being heard

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 09:17 AM PDT

Sen Warner who was behind the WH supported amendment has introduced a last minute amanedment

This removes "proof of work" from the validations exception. This means proof of stake validators are also exempted, if this passes.

But it still does not contain the exception for protocol and wallet developers. This is the important aspect that needs to be included as an exception, as it is impossible for protocol developers/wallet developers etc to KYC their users.

Keep calling and asking your Senators to do the right thing.

Watch the Senate proceedings here: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/floor_activity_pail.htm

Follow the Senators votes here: https://didtheyvoteagainst.me/

Update: Senator Steve Daines, from Montana has tweeted in favor of the Wyden-Lummis-Toomey Amendment!

Jeff Stein (Washington Post) says additional changes are still expected before the vote.

Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Marsha Blackburn are committed to Wyden/Lummis/Toomey Amendment

UPDATE: The latest amended text specifically carves out exceptions for both proof of work, and proof of stake. By name, it mentions these 2 consensus as mining and staking. Other consensus mechanisms aren't mentioned. Still no exception for developers - which is still KEY.

Senate breaks filibuster to advance $1.2 trillion infrastructure package.

UPDATES: WaPo reporter claiming further amendments are due! Wtf?! They are really legislating about things they have no clue about. Apart from PoW and PoS, there is proof of history, proof of capacity, proof of storage.. so many new technologies that are being built. How does Sen Warner and his staff even know about any of this, do they have crypto experts on their team? This is just a farce!

[Emergency Proposal] Exclude user from MOON distribution due to content theft and spam

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 09:07 PM PDT

It has recently come to our attention that one of the top users this month u/ Safelyoptimized has been breaking the rules and stealing other users comments in order to farm moons. They also have many comments that are spammed across main threads that appear to be off a pre-made list as they repeat the same generic comments every few days/hours. These comments earn them anywhere from tens to hundreds of karma each time. We have zero-tolerance for content theft and plagiarism. This user has been permanently banned for content theft which makes them ineligible from future MOON distributions, but they are still eligible to earn MOONs this period and are currently 19th on the MOON karma csv with 14972 karma.

It is not fair for the rest of the users who are following the rules to have these moons distributed for ill-gotten karma.

In the moons FAQ it says

The community has final say on who earns how many Points. If someone is acting in bad faith, for example spamming the subreddit, the community can vote to strike them from current and future distributions.

In order to prevent this user from receiving this months distribution, we must vote to strike them from the current distribution.

Examples of low-effort generic comments spammed across numerous threads:

"Enthereum we trust", "Rule number one of fight club, You do not talk about the fight club.", "YEAR OF THE ETH", "Eth is the future.", "ETH deserves this"

...and many more. You can view their profile and judge for yourself.

Examples of Comment theft in the daily discussion thread between July 1st - 14th. These are two dozen of the highest scoring ones.:

In the last 24 hours 91,785 shorts were liquidated representing $525 Million in crypto. Bears truly got rekt.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 01:08 AM PDT

In the last 24 hours 91,785 traders who shorted crypto got liquidated. This means they could no longer support their trades due to rise in prices and were forced to close or liquidate their positions.

In total, $525 Million of shorts were liquidated, top 5 by coin were: $210M on BTC, $200M on ETH, $40M on DOGE, $17M on XRP and $7M on CSPR. BTC and ETH took out a whopping 78% of total liquidations on their own. The single largest liquidation was $27.8M... That guy is not having a good day!

In conclusion, don't try to short in the face of a history-making bull run that's still going strong. Bears truly got rekt and are fukt.

Friendly Reminder: Now that we are back in the growth trajectory, DO NOT FOMO your entire life savings into Crypto!

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 01:51 PM PDT

Seriously, this needs to be repeated: Just because we are seeing massive growth does not mean you should take an emotionally charged decision and YOLO into the Crypto market.

You should consider that there is a very real possibility of losing 30%-40% of your fund within just 1 month. For instance: In the recent May-2021 crypto market crash, till 19th May, BTC lost value by 50%, ETH by 45%, ADA by 50%, BNB by 50%, from their respective All-Time-Highs, and almost every major coin was down by double-digit percentages (source). So be mindful that you might have to HODL your coins for 3-4 years just to break even. Remember, Crypto is a cutting-edge solution to a lot of problems, but making a quick buck is not one of them. Therefore only invest funds that you won't be needing anytime soon.

    • Do not invest what you don't own. Borrowing money to invest in Crypto can literally financially destroy you. It doesn't matter how optimistic the market sentiment seems, or how confident you are that every statistical parameter seems bullish-do not overleverage.
    • In a bull market, it is easy to day-trade and think you can time the market to make a quick buck. It's not. Everyone's thinks he's a genius in a bull market. I'd suggest staying away from it.

This is not FUD, it's called Risk Management, and it should be taken very seriously before investing in any financial asset-more so in the case of Crypto, because we are still very early, and crypto still has a relatively small total market cap and has massive potential for growth in this decade.

Edit-1: Yes, this is a financial advice.

Edit-2: This blew up while I was asleep! Thanks a lot, kind strangers. Thanks for the amazing Awards! This is my first post on Reddit that has received so much love! You guys are the best.

Banks not allowing people to buy crypto and USA trying to regulate crypto is proof that everyone needs crypto

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:17 PM PDT

They are scared and probably feel threatened by crypto because they know their system is flawed and crypto removes those flaws.

It's not hard to tell that crypto solves many problems by just looking at the fact that they dont want people to buy crypto.

6 months of using my crypto.com debit card and why I'm never going back to cards from my bank

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 01:00 AM PDT

First up, post inspired by u/drytendies and his good write up on the coinbase card. However, that is only available in the US and I'm in UK where you can get crypto.com cards (available in Europe/US too).

There are different tiers of cards available but I'm going to be talking about the jade green card because that's the one i have. 6 months in, i have earned about $500 in rewards without changing any spending habits, and that's not counting the price appreciation of my CRO tokens that i staked to get the card. Here's how:

Spotify reimbursed in full each month = $12 Netflix reimbursed in full each month = $13 3% cashback on all purchases = approx $30 10% p.a. staking rewards on locked CRO = $25

All of the above is paid in CRO, which i then shovel into the crypto.com Defi wallet and lend it out for a yield of approx. 14% p.a.

All of those rewards put together have been about $500 in the last 6 months, and as my defi wallet size increases that will only get better. Obviously I'm at risk of CRO price fluctuating but you could trade out to a stablecoin or some other crypto if you really wanted to.

The best rewards I've ever had from a bank are air miles, and frankly I'd much rather have about $1000 extra in my pocket each year in crypto. My long-term plan is to keep accumulating CRO in this manner and when the next face-melting bull market comes around, whether it's later this year or not for years to come, I'll have a nice stack of CRO which I've earned through doing...absolutely nothing?!

22% of all USD that has ever existed was printed in 2020, that's why I got into crypto

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 02:28 PM PDT

I got into crypto this past January when I realized that the federal reserve could casually print 9 trillion dollars in a single year. No regard for how that will effect the economy, no regard to how that will effect the prices of every day things or inflation. And the worst part is that nobody in Congress seems to give a damn because they're old enough where they're not going to live to see the consequences of their actions and effects it will have on the younger generations.

So yes I'm in it for the money, but I'm also in it to try and escape a very broken system that I believe is going to collapse within my lifetime.

*Edit: I have been informed via the comments that it was 22% of the circulating supply of USD, not all USD ever printed. However, the point I'm trying to make with this post still stands, 9 trillion dollars printed in one year is completely insane and not sustainable.

Yesterday i got a call from the Bank

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:45 AM PDT

So on friday as per usual i went to work drank my coffe and got on my laptop, then my bank called me up.And told me they had frozen my bank account, since i have been buying to many concert tickets?

At first i was like oh my god who is buying concert tickets that's not me?! They procceded to tell me yes its this CRO, a german rapper, who dont know.

So to not make the story to long i use Crypto.com exchange to buy my crypto and it shows up as CRO in my bank account, last month i put in more than the usual ammount. And the bank lady thought i was crazy, for buying crypto funny enough.

Edit: My mom works at the bank and her colleague was just concerned for me, its just meant as a funny story, my bank only meant it good!

    My portfolio is finally green!

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:34 PM PDT

2 months into my adventure in cryptocurrency and I'm finally in the green! I'll admit I joined at a really terrible time, threw a bunch of money at at least one coin that still question myself on. But even through watching my portfolio take a 60% dive just 2 weeks after I started buying and holding on (except a small pull out to cover an unexpected procedure).

A year ago I had absolutely no savings on hand. I knew I needed to start investing and saving but I live very much paycheck to paycheck and have a kid to support as well so there's not a lot of money after I pay the bills and feed ourselves. Today, I have some savings to cover most emergencies, a few small bags of crypto, and some actual hope for my financial future.

My current goal is to save enough to get a down payment on a house, and after that I'd like to keep holding for a college fund. I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot along the way, and I look forward to many more years of hodling.

Don't fully understand what is going on with the US infrastructure bill everyone is talking about? I took a shot at an ELI5 for you.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 05:54 PM PDT

A lot of people have been asking questions about this US bill that is being proposed this weekend in the US. Some have also asked for an ELI5. I took a shot at it below to explain it as simply as possible (TL;DR at bottom).

Hidden within the larger $1.2 trillion US infrastructure legation bill is a clause on crypto. This clause wants anyone who is providing any crypto service to record and report the value of the service and who received the service to the IRS (taxation institution in the US) so that they can tax them. This includes development, mining, defi, cefi, you name it.

This is obviously impossible due to the very decentralized nature of crypto, which then would make providing those crypto services illegal in the US.

On top of this the language is very confusing and makes no sense because some of it applies to Bitcoin but not ETH 2.0 for example. It just shows these US lawmakers have little understanding of crypto but are trying to regulate and tax it. There are already amendments (proposed adjustments) filed to help clear language around crypto tax up or even remove it completely.

Today, the senate debated the bill but was not able to reach a conclusion yet. On Sunday, the senate will reconvene again to resume consideration of the bill and vote. Ted Cruz said he filed a separate amendment to strike the whole thing, in the event a bipartisan deal can't be reached.

Even if this bill passes the senate it still needs to pass the house as well, 2 separate chambers of legislation in the US, must pass both.

TL;DR: US lawmakers are trying to sneakingly pass overarching crypto taxation laws in a huge infrastructure bill but they have little idea what they are talking about and it's a mess so now a bunch of politicians are trying to debate and fix it.

When you don't upvote a post, you get like 0.0000017 moons for very moon you were gonna make this month, practically nothing, you have to not upvote over 10000 posts to get a 1% in moons. But when you upvote a post you commented on, you increase it's traction, with more traction it reaches more people, that means your comment will reach more people, giving you more karma and more moons.

Now if your here in this sub not for moons, keep upvoting good content, downvote or ignore what you don't like, as how up/downvoting should work in a moonless world.

When r/cryptocurrency is back in the top 10 growing communities on reddit, this is when the real mania begins. Currently we sit at the 44th place.

I remember r/cryptocurrency being the most growing sub on whole reddit. This was with the dogecoin hype in the first quarter of this year. Mainstream media coverage was huge, everyone was talking about it, people were fomoeing until the crash happened. Daily comments and posts went down and with the most recent surges, we already see them going back up again.

This subreddit's activity is a great indicator for market activity and general interest. It's starting. If the media starts talking about this surge, more people will come until the next correction happens. And so it repeats.

Edit: Wow this post got more traction than I expected, thank you all! You can check the leaderboard of growing communities here.

    The money world Is unfair

I got into crypto 20 days ago when ETH was at $1900. I'm a 20 year uni student btw, living in india.

Well I invested all my savings over 2 years (20k INR), about $270. It might be a small sum for you guys but it was a very difficult decision for me, cause it's a lot of money. I invested in ETH, BTC, VET, ADA and ALGO (all of em were shilled by r/cc and I bought in to the hype)

Long story short: I bought crypto worth $270, and now the profit I got in 20 days in 9000 INR or ~$110.

The profit I recieved in 20 days is:

    1) actually the salary that a driver earns per month in my country

    2) internship stipend a student earns working 2 months for most of the companies.

    3) starting salary my uncle used to recieve when he started job at 24 years of age.

    4) 1.5 month rent of a 3 bedroom flat in my town

How crazy is that? If I told this to my driver, my uncle, my uni friends doing internships or my neighbour, how would they feel? No work and so much money.

This is why I hope more people get into Crypto so they don't have to work 24*7 for such small gains.
