After 2 month stoppage, Tether is printing/pumping again

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 02:32 PM PDT

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/tether/ (Click Market Cap tab, not Market tab)

Well boys, after 2 months of idling the printing presses and even burning some USDTs, Tether is back to printing more than $100 million per day. What a shock that BTC price has pumped over $40k again /s. Since Ardoino and Hoegner are facing prosecution, I suppose they're going YOLO since there isn't much difference between a $61 billion fraud and a $65 billion fraud.

Also ETH price is appreciating rapidly after the London hard fork, perhaps they're trying to keep the ETH/BTC ratio from breaking all-time highs? After all, it's possible to use ETH. With the US government about to announce that they "control" the entire crypto space, this should be an interesting week! BTC mempool and blockchain are quiet, so thus far it's all shuffling around MySQL balances on exchanges. But if that BTC mempool gets jammed and fees go to $100, all bets are off.

Someone appears to be spamming the BCH mempool, but of course our lovely P2P network is handling the situation quite nicely! The same can't be said about BSV :).

    My full support for BCH

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 09:19 AM PDT

Every single coin I have used takes 10-30 minutes for transactions to complete. Then there are the insane gas fees for every single action and you are telling me those coins are the ones that are going to be the future of cash. I am a man with humble earnings and even the small fees are huge for me. So, yeah, it is a hard pass for me. Of course, I don't know every single coin. But, BCH is the only one I have used that does transactions in mere seconds and even then, the fees are so small. Without a doubt, if any coin is gonna survive the purge, it's gonna be BCH and this is the future. I am throwing my full support for BCH. There ya go. I said it.

Whitepaper §7 reclaiming disk space. Once the latest transaction in a coin is buried under enough blocks, the spent transactions before it can be discarded to save disk space. If this was implemented in Bitcoin code from the beginning, the block size debate might have never happened.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 02:17 AM PDT

However, the implementation was not ready on early days, and Satoshi didn't give explain how much transactions is enough, before the blockchain would discard earlier transactions and save only root hash, to keep the chain of Digital signatures. My guess is that the number of blocks that were initially configured for a difficulty adjustment moving average is a good pick, to also use to discard earlier transactions.

The mining difficulty of Bitcoin was adjusted around every two weeks (or more precisely, every 2016 blocks) to maintain the normal 10-minute block time.

Bitcoin Verde node has released recently a version that supports reclaiming disk space described in whitepaper. I don't know what method it uses to find out if transactions are buried under enough blocks, but sure it is a good example of how Bitcoin should work and scale.

How can crypto be a dollar replacement when everyone uses the dollar to tie its value?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:26 AM PDT

I'm new here and one head scratcher for me is that the value is tied to the dollar. If I want to do a payment I look at my wallet and it shows me the current value in USD. I read a lot of comments about how crypto is important for when the fiat economy is crashing. Well if the dollars value goes down to 0 then any crypto is gonna be worth 0*<insert crypto currency>

I just want a stable currency that is non inflationary and can't be printed more of by a government. Being tied to fiat confuses me. Please help me understand the solution here.
